Title: Blue Ring AM Theme --> From MALA/Mamewah to Attract-Mode.
Post by: iOtero on September 29, 2018, 05:51:47 AM
"Blue Ring AM" Theme

Updated 10/01/2018 Change font layout.

I have seen that Nevincho recommended us the MALA Blue Ring  theme --Copyright (c) 2015 Andrew Mickelson-- for use in Attract-Mode.

And seeing the video i told myself if this theme does not have any mystery ...

So i've encoded it from scratch in Squirrel and i've added something to it.

Now, you can choose to use wheel or marquee at the top of the window (with animations or whitout them), you can use the keyboard search of liquid8d, you can use scanlines in the videos or not and you have the option to put more information on the games, or not.

With the keys up and down you change the game and with the left and right you change the genre (if this does not work like this, you would have to define left and right as a previous filter and a next filter in the Attract-Mode controls configuration).

Here is the thread of Nevincho: http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=2474.0
 (http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=2474.0)
Here you can download the theme: https://mega.nz/#!apNx2aQB!hYC34VoLKIxRQ3czDWBj1F7CMA1eDX3BT4T9mBLDD2I (https://mega.nz/#!apNx2aQB!hYC34VoLKIxRQ3czDWBj1F7CMA1eDX3BT4T9mBLDD2I)

And this is a video of how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HITBxdFn0fo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HITBxdFn0fo)

There is no mystery of course. The idea was to show that there is a nice theme from another system that is convenient to use in AM with a small add-on. The original has no additional images.

You've done a great job, but down somewhat the wheel art and make the 11-roll sheet as it is in the original.

I just wanted to say that there is no need to use MALA layouts in AM, which is easy to do the coding.

I like the theme, and of course i modified it a bit, i did not intend to make an exact copy.

I did not mean to bother anyone. If i have done it, i am sorry and i apologize.

I'm not offended. I do not understand coding, and it's easier for me to modify a MaLa layouts with MaLa App. And the things i mentioned as differences are just because i can not fix them myself.

Sorry for bad english

And if I came to know that the theme was originally yours, I would have asked for your permission before doing so, but I had no way of relating Nevincho to A. D.

If you tell me, I modify it as you want, and I even delete it from the forum.

(Y en cuanto al mal inglés, si no fuera por el google translator...  :-[)

And as for the bad English, if it were not for the Google translator...  :-[

You dont need my permission to make changes, you actually did a very great job!

I was just thinking can you make the changes on my last post? Sorry if I sounded mean in my last post.

By the way, this layout is made by someone speacially for MaLa FE, but project MaLa is abondoned... And the webpage dosent exist anymore.

Attract-Mode does not allow changing the spacing between lines of your listbox, they all have the same. So if I put it with 11 lines, the list covers part of the middle selector of the list, that's why it's with 9. I attach images so you can see it.

What I have done is to occupy more space in the list and change the font for another more readable.

If you're worth it, tell me and upload the changes to mega. If you want something more, just say it, if it is within my reach, I will.

Have you ever thought of doing this theme in a Vertical style.

I do not have the original PSD of the theme in MALA, and only with the PNG would it be very complicated for me.
If I got the PSDs, I could try.

This is original files downloaded from MaLa web page. But no PSD.

The psd will have the author of the original theme.

Now i'm very involved with a bootable image for pi with atract-mode and only with raspbian and attract-mode, without retropie, lakka, recalbox, nor batocera, nor emulationstation...

And i find it quite complicated to perform...

but when i have a free time, i will try a vertical version of this layout, although i can not guarantee anything... :D

Same thing I did. Setup works perfect. Can release image when I can manage to save $40 for the sdclone app. I should probably release the guide I assembled.

...when I can manage to save $40 for the sdclone app.

There are plenty of free apps that can copy/clone a sd card.

Windows - Win32DiskImager - https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/)
Mac - ApplePi-Baker - https://www.tweaking4all.com/software/macosx-software/macosx-apple-pi-baker/ (https://www.tweaking4all.com/software/macosx-software/macosx-apple-pi-baker/)
Linux - console using the native "dd" command

You might want to also check out PiShrink (https://github.com/Drewsif/PiShrink) which can make your image smaller by truncating all the empty/blank space in the image then expanding the file system to fit the next sd card on first boot.

Well you would take away a lot of work. So i'd really appreciate it if you shared your img.  ;D

And from experience, i tell you that ApplePi Baker and Win32DiskImager works very well. And they are free!  :P

Keilmiller, how are you going with the creation of the Raspbian + Attract-Mode + Retroarch img for raspberry pi?

Haven’t touched it. Missed work today due to the new rebuilt starter from advanced auto on my pickup failing. Got one from napa today, and it comes with tested results.

I will try the applepibaker tonight. If it can compress the image, I am game to release image. Will at least start a new thread and post results with a youtube video tonight. I am not using retroarch. I wanted to avoid it. I’m only interested in mame. Not to say that you couldn’t compile it yourself, or I could eventually include it. Currently tested with mame 0.203 (sdl2) and advancemame (0.106). AdvancedMame runs great on it!

I feel that you do not try to compile retroarch, it is what is giving me more problems.
Everything seems to be going well, with no error messages, but when you run it, the icons do not appear and you lose some paths...

I am currently working on a version that includes main menu and systems menu, and that uses fewer resources, so i can use it comfortably in Raspberry Pi 3B+.

I'll post a video so you can see it, and if you're interested, i'll upload it to mega so you can download it.
