General / Installation help in Ubuntu

Does anyone know how I can get past this error? What am I doing wrong here?

Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

Attract-Mode is a graphical frontend for command line emulators such as MAME, MESS and Nestopia. It hides the underlying operating system and is intended to be controlled with a joystick, gamepad or spin dial, making it ideal for use in arcade cabinets. Attract-Mode is open source and runs on Linux, OS X and Windows-based systems.

General / Re: Marquee screen
« on: August 14, 2020, 01:05:06 PM »
Sure. Here's an example of the script. The way I have it, it's intended for the marquee monitor to be positioned directly above the other monitor in the Windows display settings but if you research the splashimage command online or are already familiar with it you can adjust the numbers to make it work with the marquee monitor positioned anywhere. I was able to get it working mostly fine with different width resolutions but I have one game that switches the resolution of the primary monitor and something was causing the marquee monitor to chop off the end of the image with that game and setting both monitors to resolutions with the same width was the way I fixed it. If I remember right, this method doesn't preserve the aspect ratio so the image needs the same ratio as the monitor's resolution or it may get distorted. I've been using the PCLauncher module in rocket launcher to launch these but I'm sure they could just be launched directly from AM.

Code: [Select]
SplashImage, C:\Emulation\RocketLauncher\_Media\marquee\tekken7.png, b t +x +y-810 w1920 zh-1 zw1920, ;displays the marquee on the marquee monitor. You can substitute the "+y-180 w1920 with the height (y) and width(w)of your montor.
Run, TEKKEN 7.url, C:\Emulation\RocketLauncher\_Launchers ;launches the game from a desktop shortcut. Use .url file extension for steam games and .lnk for gog games
Process, Wait, TEKKEN 7.exe ;waits for the games process to exist
Process, WaitClose, TEKKEN 7.exe ;waits for the game's process to close
SplashImage, Off ;removes the splash image from the marquee monitor

I think I'll mostly just use the built in feature from AM from now on since it works pretty well for me and is a lot less work, but this AHK method could potentially be modified to allow you to switch between a marquee and some other image like a moves list for a fighting game using a joystick command. I was thinking I might try that for certain games at some point down the road.

Actually nevermind. I guess I just had to reboot or exit/relaunch AM after I enabled the multimon plugin and enabled multiple monitors in the settings. This is awesome! I was writing ahk scripts for every non-mame game I had on my cab. So much time wasted.

What did you have to do to get AttracMode to display the marquee on your marquee monitor? Is there a specific theme you had to use or did you edit a theme to get it working? I'd like to get mine to display the marquees from AM instead of the method I'm currently using but I couldn't find any info on how to do that.

What controllers do you have?

For now I'm using dual shock 3 controller but the scp toolkit software makes them appear and function as wireless Xbox 360 controllers in windows. I have some 8bitdo controllers too but I haven't tried them yet on this system. I might try them out to see if they behave any differently.

General / Attractmode for windows not detecting Bluetooth controller
« on: April 07, 2019, 07:38:21 PM »
On my windows 7 emulation pc I modified the registry to run attractmode as the default shell instead of explorer so the system will boot up directly to AM.

I'm also using the legacy (non-nefarius) scp toolkit which lets me use ps3 or ps4 controller over Bluetooth and windows sees them as Xbox 360 controllers.

For some reason when the PC first boots up, attractmode doesn't seem to detect the controller after it's connected and working over Bluetooth and therefore won't respond to any input. I know that the controller is connected and detected by windows because It detects input in the usb game controller settings.

If I quit and relaunch AM it'll work fine but that's not a good solution since my goal is to have windows hidden and never have to use a mouse or keyboard on this machine except for maintenence. If I connect the controller via USB it'll start working in AM and I can then remove the USB and let it reconnect over Bluetooth and it will work fine until the next reboot. That's a little better than having to pull out the mouse and keyboard but still pretty annoying to have to plug it in every time.

It seems like attractmode is just not detecting that a new controller has connected when it connects via Bluetooth but something about connecting it to USB gets AM to detect it. I'm thinking there's probably a command that I could run in windows periodically via a script that would get AM to notice the controller without having to relaunch or connect it to USB first but before I go trying a bunch of different commands I though I'd check here to see if anyone has run into similar issues and found a fix already.

Are you using Windows? If you set your Nas up as an smb share, you should be able to map a drive to it and use the full path including the drive letter you mapped it to.

Scripting / Re: Snaps are playing upside down
« on: April 24, 2018, 03:23:32 PM »
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll give them a try and see if they work. The theme works fine on my other windows machine but the one with the upside down issue is a tablet with a pretty funky/weak graphics chip so I'm thinking I just might have to edit the code for the theme to make it work on the tablet. Other themes that work fine on my other machines are also playing the vids upside down on the tablet.

Is there any way to just flip/invert the snaps in the .nut file?

Scripting / Snaps are playing upside down
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:30:14 PM »
These mp4 snaps play fine on my pi but when I decided to set up AM on my windows 8 tablet, all of the snaps are playing upside down. If I play them on the tablet in wmp or vlc, they're right-side up. It's not happening with every layout. For example, Attrac-Man is fine but Robospin is playing the snaps upside down. Is there a way to edit the nut file to flip the upside down snaps back to right side up? If not, is there some other way to fix this? I searched but couldn't find any posts about this.

Hey fellers!

I'm using the latest image and trying to get the libretro mess core installed. I go to retropie setup> manage packages> manage experimental packages> lr-mess> Install from source,  and I get an error message that mess_libretro.so is not found. I've tried this on two different systems both running on the same image. One of them has plenty of SD card space (OVER 10GB) left so I've at least ruled out that possible cause. Here are the logs:

One more question - is there any simple way to recreate my roms list for mame with the games organized by their actual name rather than the name of the .zip file?

Has anyone tried running Killer Instinct in ra-mame2003? I'm using the correct 0.78 romset with the correct CHDs but just getting stuck on a blue screen when I try to launch the game. Similar issue with KI2. The game launches but just hangs on a red screen. They both run fine on my PC with the same romset/mame version.

Also for anyone who's interested, the full 0.78 romset with CHDs is hosted on archive.org. You just have to create a free account to be able to view the download links.
