Looks like it's more-or-less the same, not visually, but structurally. So maybe I can just get by with replacing overlays and moving objects around. This should be simple enough. I type of element from my design that is absent in your layout - is the frame around the game list. Do you think I can easily add an image overlay to the set of game list elements? So it will hide with the game list on a tab change.

Yes - you can resize all assets (artwork) - the theme is coded to scale it to fit the screen size. Not only the cab image but all other assets like the gradient overlays. Just to be on the safe side - scale all of the assets using the same factor. You can search the NEVATO thread. I've uploaded scaled down version of the theme somewhere IIRC.

I know it won't work in windowed mode but I don't know why... and I didn't try to fix it, sorry.

try full screen mode (default)
NEVATO should auto detect screen resolution - if not edit the layout.nut - there is a part where you can force the resolution.

looks good already - but something is off with the gradient
I'll compare it with my design tomorrow and let you know.
I think I've used radial gradient to show a bit more of snap/video.

I'm not talking about steering towards skeuomorphic pseudo-realism.

I'm talking about a procedurally generated boxart - from snaps or videos + wheel/logo.
It can be in a clean Arcadeflow style.
