I don't know retropie at all, but it's a Linux system, which I do have knowledge about.

According to this article retropie mounts external drives unter /media like most of today's Linux distributions. As described in the article, you can see the path to the mounted drive via the command "df -h" or simply "mount". Then, you can dive deeper into the folders with the commands "ls -l" (list the contents of the current folder) and "cd <foldername>" (go into the specified folder) until you know the whole path to attract mode's files (e.g. /media/usb0/mame).

Maybe retropie's terminal console even has tab completion to ease the typing. Then, you'd only have to type some first letters of a command or argument (e.g. the folder's name) and the tab key will complete them. Double-tabbing will show you all possible folders for the typed characters so far. Using this method, a simple "cd /media" (without pressing the Enter key!) followed by (double) tabbing and giving it some first letters of the next folder(s) could show you the whole path at the end.

I hope I could make myself somewhat clear. :) If that doesn't help, you may have to wait until someone with more retropie knowledge shows up.

edit: On the second thought, an easier way could be to learn the usb path under /media (like /media/usb0) as described above and then just add the rest of the path on the drive you can look up on any other system. Sometimes, I think too complicated.  8)

Regardless, they're redundant as the game logos come up already - I just need to find the Layout.nut that cools is using and try to delete that part I guess.

Do you have advmame installed? It's not part of the default RetroPie install, it needs to be installed separately.

I do no have advmame installed... It appears on my emulators list, but never installed it.

At this point I would be way happier if I could just remove that part altogether from the Cools layout screen... would be much cleaner, as the titles are pretty redundant. Just gotta figure out the Cools layout.nut... like where to find it LOL.

/usr/local/share/attract/layouts/Cools/layout.nut

You can just remark out the lines in the "// Game title text" section.

P.S. You can place a copy of the Cools layout in the /home/pi/.attract/layouts/ folder which will superseded the builtin one if that works better for you.

I'm using an external USB for my roms.Emulationstation has no problem seeing the external drive.Apparently AM needs to be directed at the USB drive.It's currently aimed at the sd card.../home/pi/retropie/roms/emulator. It seems easy enough to redirect AM but what is the correct path? I've tried multiple combinations but nothing seems to work.

Precisely.  But how?

The process for creating a .fs-uae for an individual game is not as simple as mass duplicating a text file.  In addition to the filename of the game's archive (let's call it: A_Racing_Game_2000.zip), I also need to know one or two other things:
  • The Amiga model the game should run on, as specified by info downloaded from the online database.  (Could possibly get away with using 100% A1200.)
  • Extra arguments.  This always means "PRECACHE" but many games include other things on top of that.  This is also dictated by downloaded info.
  • The specific name of the slave file associated with the game, also specified by downloaded info.  Let's call it: ARacingGame2000.slave

These three items are ascertained from within FS-UAE's GUI; when you create a custom config with the GUI, these important pieces of info carry over.  This data is not available externally, as it is secreted away in a .sqlite file, rather than a potentially more convenient text file.  The main barrier here is that the name of the slave file is pretty much never identical to the name of the game or of its archive.  It truly must be gleaned from somewhere else.  Guess wrong and it just won't work.

It is worth repeating that if there is some method to generate individual .fs-uae config files for every game in my library, that would just about solve this whole thing.  (I would have to rename all the video/snap/etc. assets, but that is at least doable in theory.)  Even if there turns out to be a way to correctly launch FS-UAE with a UUID, I still have the problem that doing so does not cause it to use my custom config files when one exists.  Everything I've read says this is supposed to work, but for me it doesn't.

so you have to adjust to your settings, of course ^-^

there are two ways to check your config:
start AM > press TAB key > Emulators > choose your system > there is the configuration

or

goto folder where attract.exe is found. there is a folder called 'emulators'.
e.g. C:\attract\emulators\zsnes.cfg
