nirto..you are gonna go total CLI? I would have but I wasn't sure that was the best route for a noob. Hard core man. *bows honourably* As for not helping as well as I should..I forgot that ubuntu used the unity desktop..and it reminds me why I don't use it! lol

Good Bsoder! Glad you got it. If you need help setting up AM troll the forums or just ask. (new thread). I have to ask though..what is "app grid"? do you mean apt-get?

What is your desktop resolution akafox?
i'm also getting the same as you.

I tried them all. 1280X800..all the way down to 640X480. Same thing each time.

Yes omega man linux has come a long way...come back to the light side...*waves my hand* windows is not the OS you're looking for :P lol No Honestly I have heard good things about Win7 but vista left a bad taste in my mouth I have never shaken..from what i have read about windows 10..well I am scared to use it (that's for a different forum though).

Edit: I noticed that with the original layout.nut it was squashed "half way"..after I added your code to rotate it squashed it more! the particle effects work just fine even in the black area..so idk it's weird.

Ok got something..got it working correctly horizontally!...it was the code in the layout. Line 41 reads:

Code: [Select]
ExtendedObjects.add_image("bg", "bg.png", 0, 0, 600, 800);
should be:

Code: [Select]
ExtendedObjects.add_image("bg", "bg.png", 0, 0, 800, 600);

However when I add the "rotation code" it squashes again! so I'll comb it again.

Second edit: Ok I got it working had to put the rotation code before the layout size code seems like. I still have no wheel or marquee or even text for that matter still....

It was like that before I added that code snip in there actually or before I tried to rotate it. The reason I say something about the wheel ect...is because if I change to the first one you made it works just fine art and all. So I'm guessing it is something with this layout.nut. For you though it works I'm sure...so I'm at a lost of why it doesn't at least TRY and work for me better. It has to be my end somewhere..but where? Anybody else having this problem? Or could somebody (or penguin) try this and see if they have the same problem please? )You are linux right omega?)

Did you get that from the hyperspin fourm? From the looks of it it looks like it starts MS-DOS games (DOSBox?) I'm sure there is a better way..any of you windows users got any ideas? (Damn we have to emulate DOS now...*sigh* I remember when DOS was all you had! lol)

"...but I use Linux and just wanted to say don't let that guy on that other forum you posted on discourage you from using Linux.
It's a learning curve.

Rightly said nitrigen! Linux can be difficult but the rewards (freedom) are way worth it I think! I applause you for your efforts Bsoder..stick with it. It will be worth it!

Ok next step Bosder go the the link to the packages..http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=130.msg548#msg548 Download the one that says "attractmode_1.5.1_amd64.deb". Once it is download you will need to "install" it (windows speak). For that you need to enter your "root" )or "sudo" sometimes it's called) password. From there it will install. Might say I need "dependencies" or something like that. You need to say yes or ok becuase you need those files. Once you have it installed look under games. Click and it should start! :) If you need more help always ask glad to help (like setting up attract mode...but there are more people that can do the one besides me :P )

Yeah I can't find close emu either...I can not remember where I found it.

There should be a windows version of mupen64... https://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/downloads/detail?name=mupen64plus-bundle-win32-2.0.zip&can=2&q=

Like I said both mupen and project64 are about the same age. So pick your poison...or in this case the one the works best for you. Mess I think has some work to do before it can run N64 smooth..but that is just what I think.

Again like I said you have to use a program to do that called "close emu" But if you want to try mupen64plus it works great. I left project64 for it. Mess is not the best thing to run N64 with. What is your resolution set at when you play mess?

As for your exiting and resolution..not sure..but I have had that problem with all emulators at times. Anybody got any ideas to help xev1n out?

And welcome to the forums! :)

As for the vid snaps. Thanks that is exactly what I wanted to know! :D So I will work on them. I can make them faster than wheel art! :P I'm trying to compare video quality/crispness. Seems to me they are real close. I started making them at low quality to save space and I mean come on it's just a vid snap to show the game...until I wanted to use them for my screen saver..then I was like umm..no. lol I have a lot already and have many more to do. I will do all of the mame set I guess..(and/or mess) but I'll do the ones that work and that i have first (I stripped out all the mature and mahjong and stuff. As for clones..just copy the movie and rename it!) We'll see what people want i guess. Some games I can not stay alive for long enough to make it 30 secs! lol

I swear I answered this last night. Did my post go poof? :( The code works as expected. I had to place it in the right place though. Still though it is only "half size" also it makes the bottom of the list box the bottom of the screen almost.

Man, it's a pain testing this on my monitor. Having to go into portrait mode, changing the resolution to lowest setting and mouse...

I know..making my snaps has made all sorts of problems I never thought of! lol

thanks for the info!  I was able to open the box up and type terminal and konsole, but they just brought up a picture of the flywheels and the words terminal and konsole under the flywheels logo.

OK I'm confused there..but maybe I confused you. (I haven't used ubuntu in two years.) I think what you are seeing is..well what it does is guess the program you want before typing it all out. Just click on one with your mouse..or finish typing it out and press enter.

Because you have Ubuntu (and sorry for not seeing this earlier) Type the word "terminal" in that box and press the enter key. Then type "uname -mrs" (no quotes)...press enter. Type in your next post what it says in your terminal please.

We'll take it one step at a time I have no problem with that. (Wish I had someone helping me with linux years ago lol) Honestly I was wanting to do a write up to help out..maybe you were sent to be my guinea pig?! MAAAAWWW HAAAHHAHHA...oh wait..helping not scaring you off. ;)

No honestly I am willing to help and guide no problem...and you would be helping me out as well! :)

Maybe it would be easier for a newbie to just get the Linux OS mean for the code?  Linux Arch I think it was?

Arch yes...but arch is not for beginners! Ubuntu is better suited for you I promise. Either way you'd have to do the same thing. A AUR package is for arch linux...but it's the same thing just packaged different. (same present different wrapping).

lol you ARE dedicated man just on a different part. But it takes all parts of the body to make it work...even down to the smallest thing right?

Ok so the snaps I'll keep doing that way..THAT I can do. As for the wheel art..I don't mind doing them..but i'll push it off to someone that WANTS to do them because they LIKE to do them lol. I have a lot of snaps already. Your encouragement will help me finish them! Thanks :D

Ok I did that (I knew there was a way to flip but I couldn't remember..never thought to look in the controls :P). Still the same thing. Covers half the rest is black. I get no logo (should say mame right?) and no wheel. Not sure what's wrong. The particles work and look good though. I like them :)

akafox -

Test this vertical layout for me. I included my preset folder with particle effects. I forgot to include the font.

Looks good! I like it...but I couldn't get it to rotate vertical (90) so half of my screen was just black. And my wheel art never showed either. Either I am doing something wrong or I am missing something...

OK, tested the vertical some what and it didn't look pretty as expected. So, I think I'm gonna retool some of these layouts for vertical too. Another thing to add to the list. Thing is, I am asking myself, how practical is a wheel for vertical layouts?

I see your point here. But honestly for my cocktail table (most of my games are vertical) that would be great. No other system does vertical except mame anyway so you'll only have to make one. :P

Do have a question...in another front end you could control the front end with either joystick. That is to say it would flip (because it was a cocktail table). Can you do that with AM?

Always glad to have a new penguin! :) Yes it is possible to install AM (attract mode) on linux ubuntu. That's exactly how i run it. (The windows version gave me problems. though I think it was the computer not AM.) Go here first. http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=130.msg548#msg548 Ubuntu uses what is called "deb" packages. The one you see (AUR package is for arch linux) (It's still linux but just a different kind of linux..umm how to explain...still windows (vista) but different windows (7)..does that help?) Anyway I do need a little information from you first though. I need to know if you are running a 64-bit version or a 32 bit version. Open a terminal (easiest way is to press Alt (hold it down) and then press F2) in the box that pops up type "terminal" (if that doesn't work try "konsole") don't use the quotes. You'll see something like this
Code: [Select]
...generic x86_64 the 64 means 64-bit if you see a 32 (or i386) then you need the 32-bit package. After downloading it you can double click on it to start your package manager. However you need have root (administrator in windows speak) privileges to install it. If you do enter your password and it will install itself. (You need to be connected to the internet to install AM..and most other programs for linux). If you get stuck just ask here and I or anyone other penguins will help you. Honestly I love AM in linux much better.

General / Re: Ambient Sound in Attractmode
« on: March 30, 2015, 10:49:50 AM »
I have my sounds in the "sound" folder. if you don't have one just create one and put them in there. Then in the configuration menu (TAB) choose sound. When you press enter on a selection it will highlight...press up or down. AM will cycle through the sounds yo have in your folder (you must have them in that folder.) As for your music or ambient sound it has to be in there to. (Mine is an mp3) You can also use the music plug-in to run your music. here http://arcade.hofle.com/ is what I use for my background. (Play the video snaps low on volume and then use that so it "sounds like an arcade") And I get my music from here http://ocremix.org/. And this I just run across for fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NrxMMxxUkI

I want the music to shut off during the screensaver and the movie snaps to play sound..you know so it's like an arcade attract mode :P but that is the screensaver...
