Announcements / Re: Attract Mode 2.6.0 has been released
« on: November 05, 2019, 06:23:50 AM »
Thanks for the great update. You fixed the issue I’d had since 2.4 where games wouldn’t load when in “fill screen (default)” mode.

I have noticed another strange issue related to controls that’s persisted across all recent versions. I’m running AM on a cab and when on any of the filter pages, if I press the second player joystick in the “down” direction it reads the input as “add or remove favourite”. I can confirm that I’ve double-checked the controls and the only key assigned to “add or remove favourite” is the “f” key on my keyboard. This is only an issue because my son loves to grab the joystick when I’m browsing games and delete my favourites. 🙂

Thanks again for your efforts.

Hi, I'm still having this exact problem using Windows 7 Pro, GroovyMAME64 2.06 d3dex non-nag with Attract Mode 2.5.1.

raygun, did the changes you made in the later version patches also apply to Windows 7? It used to run fine when I was using AM 2.3 with GroovyMAME 1.93 a few years back but with my current build it refuses to switch from AM to GM in anything other than "windowed" mode.

I have no expertise in fixing it, but I guess it couldn’t harm to have it out there so that those who had the ability could fix it.

Once again, a huge thanks for your work. It’s an excellent theme.

Did anybody ever have an issue with Flat_Blue displaying different filters incorrectly? I have around ten different genre filters for MAME, and when I switch from one Flat_Blue filter to another (Fighting Game filter to Shooter filter for example), Flat_Blue duplicates the display name (it displays Fighting Game, followed by Fighting Game). The actual game list displayed is correct, but the display name isn't, meaning you can't tell which filter you're viewing. I've double checked all the names in the theme settings and they are correct.

I've noticed that this behavior only occurs when switching between filters running the Flat_Blue theme. If for example I go from Fighting Game (Flat_Blue theme) to Platformer (Basic Theme) to Shooter (Flat_Blue theme), the correct names will be displayed. I contacted the author but as they never got around to the 2.0 update nothing ever came of it. Did anybody else have this issue and find a solution? Flat_Blue is by far the cleanest theme on AM when it comes to auto-detecting between vert and hori in a cab, and it would be great to be able to use it.

Yeah, it's very frustrating as I used to have GM1.93 with AM2.3 running and I never had this problem. I don't think it's a Windows 7 issue as I run my cab PC offline so there's no way it could be an update issue on Windows side.

If anybody has any advice that could solve this I'd be hugely grateful. My cab is pretty much unusable until I can get AM running.  :'(

I'm having exactly the same issue, only mine boots correctly occasionally. Once it has booted a game correctly the first time, it will continue to work properly until you quit out of AM. If it decides that it's not going to boot though, it will repeatedly boot games in the background forcing me to restart AM.

I'd really appreciate a fix as I love running AM on my cab and really don't want to have to find another solution.

For reference I'm running Windows 7 Pro, GroovyMAME64 2.06 d3dex non-nag with Attract Mode 2.5.1.

I think you may just have solved my problem. I was sure that my old 1.93 set was merged and that AM could read merged sets. After you mentioned this I looked at my old back-up on and I was actually running a split set.   ::)

Thank you so much for going through that with me and solving my mistake. Time to get a split set.

12,355, which is made up of all the zipped ROM files plus four CHD files and one text file.

The new_mame.xml does have the clones, yes. I used the search function and found nslashersj (a clone of the Korean parent ROM).

I don’t have any filter set up in MAME. It’s a new build which I set up from fresh, with the exception of copying config and nvram files. As you can see from the attached photo, MAME is displaying the full 35,543/35,543 games and I can confirm that all of the clones I’ve tested are working properly.

Thanks for the notice about the typo. That's fixed now.

Okay, so I've done some more testing this morning. I followed the instructions to generate the new_mame.xml, which worked. I then used that to generate the romlist in AM and got the same result.

I then generated a new xml from within mame which it exported to the UI folder. I then used that to generate the romlist in AM and got the same result once again.

I then chose to generate a new mame.txt from within mame and exported it to the UI folder. In this case I moved the mame.txt file to AM's romlist folder and loaded AM. It displayed the full range of 35k+ games, but when I clicked on them, they don't load, or respond at all.

I'm really confused and frustrated with this as I can't see where the error could be.

Thanks for all your help with this. I’m going to give that a go in the morning and update you with the result.

I got rid of those and regenerated the list and it gave me the same result. Strange, as I thought that it was using the mame.xml in order to generate AM's mame.txt.

All done. It's exactly the same issue.  :(

I thought the same so I started everything from a fresh install to make sure there was no weird filter issue. I've attached it but as you can see, it's pretty bare bones.

I'm wondering if it's the xml file I downloaded (possibly it's built for parent-only sets?) but I'm fairy sure I got it from the official MAME site so I doubt that.
