MAME - Categories
« on: November 10, 2015, 06:17:17 AM »
Hello:

Is it possible to set up Attract Mode to break the MAME game list into categories?

For instance let us say that I have about 400 games set up in MAME. I have them broken into Shooters, 2.5D Action, Side Scollers, and Fighters. Is it possible to get the main menu to offer these as top level categories and drill down into sub lists?

Thank you,

Yes. You just filter them. That is press TAB then go to display --> emulator (mame) ---> now add new filter.

1. In the filter rule Target make it category
2. Comparison make it equal
3. Filter value make it whatever you want (ex. fighting) Here you want to open your list in a text editor and make it match a "value" exactly in there..just so there is no problems
4. then go back..you want to go back to the list...make a filter for every category you want

Do note that you MUST have the catver.ini loaded when you made your list or can not filter that way!

Thank you. I will give this a shot tonight.

It would be great to not have to sift through hundreds of games when all I want to do is select from a short list of say shooters.

Thanks,
