General / Speed, Stability, and resource useage

Hi:

I was wondering in compassion to emulationstataion how is Attract Mode on Speed, Stability, and resource usage.

I plan to re-purpose an older machine for my MAME cab as I tend to like playing pacman or golden axe.

Any thoughts?

General / MAME opening multiple times

Hello:

I noticed that if I double or triple tap the return button to start a MAME rom Attract Mode will open multiple copies of MAME.

I double tapped the return button and it opened MAME and I was able to play the game fine. When I exited the game MAME opened again.

I tried this with a triple tap and the same results but this time I had to close out of MAME three times.

Is there a switch to prevent this?

Okay moer than likely this is a no way or has been answered somewhere else but I figured why not ask.

Will any other FE's themes work on AM? Like Mala or what not?

General / MAME - Categories

Hello:

Is it possible to set up Attract Mode to break the MAME game list into categories?

For instance let us say that I have about 400 games set up in MAME. I have them broken into Shooters, 2.5D Action, Side Scollers, and Fighters. Is it possible to get the main menu to offer these as top level categories and drill down into sub lists?

General / Graphics and Video file structure.

Hello:

Recently I downloaded the video packs from: video snaps http://www.progettosnaps.net/videosnaps/

I found this link in a post from Akafox: http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=344.0

Is it required to unzip and move all the videos into a folder (or separate folders) once the video packs are downloaded? Is it possible to leave them zipped or no? 

This question also applies to image packs that are on the site as well as they come in zip formats.

I am using this thread to help me manage the building of a FAQ dedicated to creating a fully stand alone MAME cabinet with AttractMode as its crown jewel.

General / Linux Distro - MAME only - Low-end Machine

Hello:

I have an older p4. Yes I know it 's old. I just don't think its garbage yet.

I want to wipe this machine of its WinXP and install a Linux distro for use with Attractmode with MAME only.

What is the best distro that will most likely work with an older machine and attractmode? Currently I am looking at LUBUNTU as the main distro.

Any thoughts on this?
