Title: At-The-Arcade MOD CoinOPSDiamondsDynamic
Post by: damonxxx on October 12, 2020, 10:43:13 AM
Hi everyone,
decided to make some remarks here at the beginning...heard some things...

I was always clear about the origin of the cabinets, it's even in the thread title...never claimed otherwise...

These Arcade-Cabinets here are originally created by the artist -gjsmsmith- of the The CoinOps Project!!!

The coinOPS Project creates very polished Arcade-Frontendsbuilds which are wonderful, please support them if you are interested...
...I personally need more control over everything+want to change things by myself so I choose AM...+I also wanted some of the graphically greatness of coinOPS...sooo....

I think I speak for everyone who enjoys the cabinets that -gjsmsmith- has done an outstanding job creating them! THANK YOU,SIR!

Yeah, everyone cannot deny that his artwork was a little bit "butchered" in the editing process to implement them in our litte projects...sorry for that...

...working on fixing the downgrade to match the originals of -gjsmsmith- a little bit more again, promise...
...and there is this quote: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ..." (conveniently forgot the second half here ;) )

So anyone who uses the cabinets-artwork please credit -gjsmsmith- of The CoinOPS Project as the original creator...

...again, the biggest THANK YOU to gjsmsmith for making an old retrogamerdream come true...
(please don't be to upset, sorry, never was the intention, only appreciation of your work here)

...hope the AM vs coinOPS situation over artwork and theme"inspirations" keeps lighthearted banter...and not serious a "conflict"
...sometimes you can't weight the tone and seriousness of the words over the internet, for me there was some lighthearted, deserved mocking and banter until now..
...all in good fun...

...in the end we all have the same great hobby, RETROGAMING! Thank You!

Hi everyone,

made the At-the-Arcade-Theme working with the CoinOPSDiamondsArcadeCabinetsArt...

UPDATE2: !!!Sorry, have today realized you have to set "enable startup animation= NO"!!!, to keep screen in place, though it was default setting...;(
UPDATE1:
At-The-Arcade coinup - DYNAMIC changes the cabinet per Game (600+) or uses default Cabinet (boxart = your cabinetart-folder, default Cabinet = boxart.png in theme folder, show boxart=YES)

Hi,

this idea is very very cool, but i don't have understood how to improve in my configuration. I put cabinet images in a folder (that I renamed "boxart"), I have set show boxart = yes, but the result is the image of cabinet very small placed in the bottom left corner of the screen. Can you help me please? Exist a Dynamic mode for the At-The-Arcade theme?

Hi, sorry to hear that it doesn't work for you...mine worked fine...

Have changed several thing so you have to download my latest version, which worked fine for me...

Unfortunately you have to download the cabinets again, I have have cropped them to load faster 1300x1080 and doubled wheel, bike, flight, gun, trackball cabinets for games that use them with universal black ones as placeholder...1000+...maybe add some artwork to them later...

You can fast test if it works, by using the new layout, but the cabinets would be out of place by a half...when it worked load and use the new cabinets versions and all should be in place correctly...hope it works...For me it was always a dream to have original cabinet with original controls for each game (sort of)...so I am very happy with this layout..haha

Hi Damon,

thanks a lot for your help. Finally I got the result that I wished.
Only two issues are to solve:
1) Only Retro background is visible. Other option, link panscan or Retro Live, don't work.
2) Video snap is not aligned with the frame, as well the marquee. Any suggestions?

Hi,
hmmm..I see you are on Apple, I am on Windows and it works on several Windows-PCs how it is with Fullscreen, 1920x1080 Desktop resolution and RetroBackground...
sorry...can't think of what is causing it, maybe resolution changed to 1280x800...no fullscreen...apple ;)
but if you comfortable to edit layout.nut...in Theme folder
if I remember correctly...
..search for "local boxart = fe.add_artwork("boxart", -310, 0, flw, flh );"  -310 is the x position of the cabinet change -315 ... -320 etc. until it is ok...

probably you have to change these two, too...(you can test it before maybe with RAIDEN, which has vertical snap)
...the black background for vertical snaps "vertical_cover = fe.add_image("vertical_cover.png", flx*0.105, fly*0.298, flw*0.374, flh*0.76);" 105 minus the pixel you moved left before...
..same for static vid when no snap "local snapbg = fe.add_image(FeConfigDirectory+"videos/static.mp4", flx*0.105, fly*0.295, flw*0.365, flh*0.485);"

....strangely the screenhigh seems ok...no need to change y coordinates...
...don't know about the retrobackground...was happy that all worked for me instantly...is know my standard theme for mame/fb neo...

Thanks Damon. I modified local_boxart until -345 value and I fit the snap with the frame of the cabinet. I noticed that theme doesn't recognise the dimension of the window. Therefore when window has ratio 16:9 works fine, instead for 16:10 the snap is not aligned.

I will likely modify this to work on my vertical cabinet. I have series of themes I made a few years ago including one called Boardwalk (I don't think I ever posted it up here) that is similar, but doesn't show the controls. I built those themes to include a few different types of dynamic scaling so the could be used on 4:3 as well as 16:9 or any other size. There's a stretch mode, a crop with center alignment mode and a scale mode, so they can work on a variety of my different setups without reconfiguring anything in the code... just have to choose layout options.  As well, those themes have the ability to turn on and off Wheel display for smaller widths (like vertical cabinets).

I think I can probably modify that code pretty quickly to incorporate these backgrounds. I'll take a look and post up if I'm successful.

This is a great theme, I love the controls. I'm not familiar with the CoinOps stuff... do they offer a layered PSD file, or a version of the backgrounds without the bricks and the fade on the right? My Boardwalk them was capable of showing a selectable backround, or even dynamically picking a background on load... it'd be nice to have that option with these instead of just the bricks (which are admittedly very nice looking... but still, I like options)

Hi mahuti, that sounds great,
I have only a psd+layer of the default cabinet (it's 1920x1080, I have all other cropped 1300x1080 for faster loading/size)
This cabinets dimension is slightly bigger with the silver borders etc. than the other ...
...there is a layer for a ridiculous big balls (hihi) stick and a normal...don't recognized it until later...
Would be good to have something like this more in style of the other cabinet, maybe with layer to choose for control panel...
... I think so were the original Cabinets done... and then add the artwork later...
...I tried to batch remove the wall and sidekick on the right (not a fan), but the edges don't look good, maybe someone can figure it out without layer psd...
Have made some "standard cabinets" myself the black ones, for all lightgun, wheel, trackball etc. Cabinets to match with the games,
wanted to add the artwork too for my favorite games, but I am  slooooowwww....haha
...all work no play....;)

I took one of the standard cabinets in your set, created bezier paths, cut and layered it in Photoshop. There's a layer group called "drop-in layer"... if you drop in one of the existing cabinet images (that uses the same shape) it should pretty well mask everything but the top logo and the control panel. You can easily turn on and off the t-molding overlays too.

If every game used this same cabinet shape, I could use AM to mask out everything but the control panel and build the cabinet dynamically without a background and all that.

In any case, I started getting my code together to do what I mentioned earlier. I'd guess I'll have something to take a look at within the next few days.

Hi mahuti,
great cutout of the cabinet, never got the edges so clean, i am at beginner level of photoshop ;)
I thought too of only using the control panel but there are too many "special" cabinets that look very cool...
What I would like to do is to get rid of the left wall and the sidekick/shadow at the right...but it seems too much work..hmmm...
...I am thinking how I could use an "invert/ negative" of your clean cutout cabinet and batch-photoshop-away the left/right side with a clear background for all same style cabinets, which must be most of them...
...also a default cabinet in style of your cutout one fits much more in, maybe for 2player 6button star select, all black...
...I must wait until the weekend to try some things ;(...almost there;)

..and here are some additional 290 cabinets from CoinOPSdiamonds 2
Some good new ones megatech, playchoice could be used for several games...have to look which one can be used as universal or doubled for sequels etc. ...
...also renaming...

Well, I have an advantage... it's basically my job to do this kind of stuff. The pen tool is how I get the lines so sharp. I just make a path, and then make a marquee selection with 1px of edge fuzziness. Anyway, glad to help.

Yeah. I will probably make a layout that just works with the ONE style after I modify my existing one to handle some scaling stuff using your backgrounds. I like the different cabinet shapes... it's really cool, so I'm going to work on that first.

You can use one of the layers I put in there to remove the background. I specifically made "cabinet background base" layer with the idea that it would be used in batch processing to cut the left and right side off.

Anyway, I can do this same thing on other cabinet shapes. If you gave me a list of examples .pngs of the different shapes, that would probably speed up the process. I know of some just by looking through, but I'm guessing there's a bunch I didn't notice.

The cabinets you have realised are very cool, and work fine on the layout. I added moving flyer behind the wheel logos (similar CoinOPS theme) and it is awesome, better than Retro Animated background. There is only issue that can be improved, i.e. the fade effect on the right side, where you can see the cutting of the image...
Title: Re: At-The-Arcade MOD CoinOPSDiamondsDynamic

If you want to keep the bricks on the left, you could batch cut out the fade on the right from the images, and then make your own fade layer that is much wider that properly fades out to nothing. Basically I'd just make a big black box and then cut it with an oval... then apply gaussian blur to the whole thing. In the layout you'd just put that PNG underneath everything.

Hello,

I first wanted to say this is an amazing theme and love the work you've gone to, in order to create this aesthetic.

I am currently using this on a raspberry pi 3 b+, using the latest updates to all software necessary to run attract mode, and have run into a few errors and hope reporting them will help you in optimizing this theme to it's fullest potential. I modified the application to the specifications that were documented by the author and placed all my cabs in the "boxart" folder in my ROMs folder.

1. I am currently running into the same issue and the previous poster, where when loading the theme the only background that will load is "retro" all the others give me a black background.
2. For any game that doesn't have a cab or "boxart" png to load, the layout seems to load alternative media, where this media is coming from I can't find, sometimes it looks like flyer art, sometimes it looks like screenshots, sometimes its a large image with the words "arcade" in the middle with the logos of many arcade publishers in the back faded. It never loads the base/default boxart image located in the layouts file.

I tried looking through the nut file but my lack of understanding didn't help me understand where I could update the file to help.

I hope this helps.

Edit: I did notice something that may help. When I exit attract mode i see an error that states: "Failed to create texture. It's internal size is too high. (2150x1728, maximum is 2048x2048)..." with some more dialogue.

Hi matchiz, I unfortunately don't know what is causing it.. . I am on Windows only, maybe wait for mahutis layout or maybe the other Damon-HP can help....sorry...

Had some time this weekend and got rid of the left/right of the Cabinets...looks good enough for me haha (mistakes were made ...might redo/touch up some....later)

...BUT there is now a new Problem with the smaller cabinets like Vewlix...the marquees are too wide and over the edges!

I plan to solve this like this:
a) Photoshop the marquee in the actual cabinet art (most cabinets with unusual shape have it already)
b) and make a transparent/clear marquee with "nothing" for the marquee folder (need this to avoid triggering the no marquee MAME/FB Neo default marque - which is again to wide)

All 1000+ Cabinets without WALL and Shadow Sidekick....for everyone who wants ...

Boardwalk used the unified bezels. Man that would be cool to add to this. I got into the code this weekend. Lots of options!!

I started working with my auto scaling code. I noticed it did some weird stuff on vertical so I'm trying to fix that before I try integrating it.

Do you have this up on github?

Hello mahuti,
...no github, sorry...
...would be cool to have a tailored layout for the cabinets with bezel, marquee, flyer, infos...eeeeveeerrrrythinggg haha...
...for know I am happy with this...maybe adding the flyerart later to the right and a brickwall-background so the flyer looks like an actual poster on the wall..had it before for robospin..
...but I think the wheel covers to much of the flyer because this time we have a frontal look at the cabinet, maybe I move the wheel down, a upperhalfwheel in the downright corner?...hmm

Thank you for the Standard Cabinet PSD
...with all the layers it is a real -=[Cabinet-Construction-Kit]=-  ;)...
...can you post when you have a final version, please? would wait to maybe add something for myself...
...I like the layer over the marquee I used in the first version of my new black default cabinet in the last download...the marquee looks more milkglassy?backlit?...I like it...
...I think some color was missing for me was black, yellow, red, blue a layeroption? - ahh, the front of the panel needed different color too I think...
...and I would add layer for some control panel, wheel, flight etc.. there are matching ones for this type of cabinet...
This will make it very easy to make some new cabs, the only thing to do manually is to add some game artwork to the cabinet...thanx

Another thing I have to look into is marquees for some big games (for me;) which are missing, I recognized this just recently, what...no marquee for xxxxxxx??? whhhhyyyy?
....I have the complete progettosnaps-marquee-pack, I think it is relatively complete or have I missed another source...maybe some are for clones, I have no clone filter....
...when I have the time...

Oh, Hi other Damon-HP, screenshot looking good, TURTLEPOWER!, best ARCADE haha

but I think the wheel covers to much of the flyer because this time we have a frontal look at the cabinet, maybe I move the wheel down, a upperhalfwheel in the downright corner?...hmm

In my layouts, I usually make the wheel optional. Personally, I don't really see the appeal of the wheel graphics, especially when you already have a cabinet, marquee, etc. If the wheel takes away something cool like what you're talking about, make it so the user can turn if off.

1. I'll look at adding it. I didn't notice.

I think some color was missing for me was black, yellow, red, blue a layeroption?

2. I only made a few colors as examples. I started building it so that I could dynamically change the colors using hex or RGB values. I did this before with my layouts so I only needed 1 graphic. If you want to use the t-molding in static graphics, you'd need to add the colors. But that shouldn't be hard... I think it's just a full layer of colors. When I'm back in the file, I'll go ahead and add some more colors though

3. I made a layer for that too. I believe it's in the file.

4. Those things should be a drop-in for the most part. I can add some examples to show you.

I think at some point I switched to using Emumovies marquees. Takes awhile to download them all if you want to do it for free. Years ago I bought a lifetime account there though so it's not much effort for me.  ;D

Helloooo,

Can't think of of anything to add...would be nice if you post the psd, when you think it's ready, it's already great as it is...;)

Had to move the marquee in the layout a few pixel, because the background was showing through. (layout attached)

I have made clear/transparent marquees for the special cabinet which won't cover the marquee (attached 155).
I copied them into the marquee folder - but I advise to better not overwrite (I use total commander and can choose auto rename target file, so I keep the original ones)

Thinking what to do with the playchoice and megatech cabinets which have a small transparent window for the marquee
(put in cabinetart/make small square normal ones for games or one default? decisions :o)

Hi, do you have a python script that removes the wall and shadow sidekick by chance?

Hi jclampy69,

I did it with Photoshop...
I sorted the cabinets after shapes so far as possible (there are only a handful different) and used a photoshop-automated-batch for each shape to cut out the cabinet-with transparent background...
...did the remaining 20 or so manually...
...deleted the batches already ;(
...sorry couldn't help...

Ok, I was just looking at an updated CoinOps release and noticed the 1941 cab looks updated. Capcom logo between the controls instead of a 'white highlight' placeholder. Not sure how far the 'updates' go through the whole set. Any idea where the source for these cabinets come from or are they exclusive to their group?

There are two complete builds to date: CoinOPS Diamonds 1 and 2...
2 has 290 new Cabinets and a handful of variants ...

I still want to get into this layout some more. I had to put it on hold because I am trying to finish the layout of a vertical cab. Not many good layouts for vertical.  I started with someone else's layout and made a lot of changes. They're good changes, but complicated to enact. Sad thing is, most of the changes just make it more flexible, less error prone and better for sharing and don't really make it full of more visible awesome. :-D

Anyway, I'm really interested in making this layout work on my next machine which is 4:3 layout. My similar layout to this one could really benefit from merging the two.

From a quick glance the cabinets are also in their main build Next 2. They released an R2 update a while ago and also there is an unofficial build recently that is based on the latest updates.

Edit:
Next 2 R3 released and there is a Diamonds 3 in near future.

Hope you guys ideas are coming along alright?

Here is an animation concept I thought up a couple of weeks ago. But like you guys, I too ran into trouble finding missing marquees and logos. So, I had to create about 20% of them so far myself. Logos are quite fun, I treat it like a 'reverse paint by numbers'. Marquees are a lot more work to do.

Anyway, here is a sneak peek. It was just a concept. I have a vision to turn it into a proper theme, but there is a lot of coding and designing I will have to do to finish it.
https://youtu.be/B6ok2KSEAzg (https://youtu.be/B6ok2KSEAzg)
Ignore the text on-screen, I was just using that 'debugging' the artwork. Everything is 'buttery smooth', it was just on an external mechanical hard drive that was being used in the background at the time. But I had to record that then or I probably wouldn't have got around to it for another couple of weeks.
Wheel list was a modified version of Oomek's fantastic 'Carrier' module.

Is anyone planning to compile an updated cabinet set with Next 2 R3 cabinets or after Diamonds 3 is released?

Hi jclampy69,

Looks wonderful ;) especially how you put the hole cabinet together before showing!!!  Bothered me the most...and the video lagging while scrolling...but other themes had that too so...
Going forward I would make a switch ON/off for the enter-the room-animation while it looks very cool, it takes to long for my taste...I scroll often searching, looking at snaps because I forget the exact name..haha...and while everything else is fast and smooth...
Great Job hope you finish the theme and please share...
Don't know If a Diamond 3 comes out...will look for it...have made some cabinets...there are enough to choose and modify...have to go through racing-wheel and lightgun games again, have been placeholder, UZIs for some ;);), there are now the original Sega Lightguns...only the real Human-Tattoed-Arms are a little bit distracting...

Can share my wheel logos and marquees to spare you some time...
The artfolders are for several emulators...
MameWheel is complete for me, noClones filter and applied some other (MahjongCardCasino some other....) also complete for model1/2 FBneo naomi...
Marquees shold be named correctly, have "blank" ones for special shaped cabinets, playchoiceMegatech mini marquees (yeah, 2nd Screen should be Menu but marquees lookedbetter ;)) the original Marquees is still there with (1) ...

Thanks,

The cabinet base is just a generic design at moment. I wasn't going to make authentic bases for each machine. Looks acceptable in a quick animation though. ;)
If your cabinets were coming in from the left or below the screen then you won't need to have the bottom of the cabinet. ;)
I don't think the background video would lag under normal conditions, I just had some background processing going on, etc..
The 'enter the room animation' tie's in with overall idea of the theme (don't want to spoil that yet). Although it is not a fixed speed/time so can easily be speed up, etc.

Thanks for the logos, surprisingly you have some that I couldn't find and therefore recreated. So, kudos for finding those ones.
Would be great to peruse your marquees. ;)

If you are in need of a more simple layout without the animation I could probably whip something up for you. Will send you a PM.

Edit:
I'm also looking at setting up an image batch processor. I'll let you know if I have success.

Hi,

I would use photoshop  and record automated-batch-processes, because most other programs have failed to process the transparencies of the cabinet images correctly, I tried...
...for me the snapvideo is alway behind and keeps playing...looking strange when scrolling faster.. has to stop/fadeout before scrolling... don't know how to do it...
...wonder if you compose a new image of the complete cabinet before or on the fly...would certainly spare processing time to do it before for all cabinets and make a new folder "complete cabinets"...would be super fast...and ..then...add... a two minutes animation hahah...just kidding...hihi

Here are the marquees... have kept always the "best" quality, some HQ because I always wanted a second screen for marquee but...could be resized smaller...

Wow, those marquees and logos are great, some I haven't even seen before.  ;)

I would use photoshop  and record automated-batch-processes, because most other programs have failed to process the transparencies of the cabinet images correctly, I tried...
I'm using Gimp. It can do it no problem, I'm just trying to make the process as simple as possible to make the batch process as fast as it can be.
Edit: Unfortunately Gimp will require a Python script for the 'batching process'. I did something with that a decade ago but can't even remember what that was for now. Anyway I created an .svg path file and hopefully Imagemagick will be able to do take care of the 'batch processing'. I'll try it tomorrow as past midnight now.
Edit2: Unfortunately Imagemagick will require a Perl script for the 'batching process'. So, unfortunately it seems a bit more is required to get your system ready for batch processing.
...for me the snapvideo is alway behind and keeps playing...looking strange when scrolling faster.. has to stop/fadeout before scrolling... don't know how to do it...
Yes, I noticed that. That is the beauty of rendering the full cab off-screen out of view and then having it appear on-screen as one. It maybe possible to get around that by drawing all the parts to a surface and then having that render as one, I'll give it a try.
...wonder if you compose a new image of the complete cabinet before or on the fly...would certainly spare processing time to do it before for all cabinets and make a new folder "complete cabinets"...would be super fast...and ..then...add... a two minutes animation hahah...just kidding...hihi
Since all cabinets could in theory be unique you can't really set a 'default' one to draw immediately, I tried that but it just looks weird.. You can create a default screen that is turned off, but then it may look like it is floating if your PC can't scroll fast enough.

Another way would be to have the cabinet render after you have finished navigation. But I don't know if that is acceptable?

Yaron's original at the arcade theme had a setting where the cabinet can slide in from the left. You can set the speed to your liking. Would that be what you are looking for?

Had another look at whether it is possible to have the cabinet render on-screen while scrolling the list and it doesn't look like it can be done. Since with the dynamic cabinets you'll always end up seeing one of the components rendering before the others.

So the easiest way around that is to have it initially render off-screen.

Here is a quick edit I did of my other layout to make it slide in from the left side of the screen instead of the doorway in the background (using the same method).
https://youtu.be/SfSagOBWw5k (https://youtu.be/SfSagOBWw5k)

As you can see, it can be quite snappy. Also keep in mind it still has the bottom of the cabinet underneath off-screen and I could optimize the 'surface' dimensions.

Hi Yaron,
The cabinet graphics are the ones *without the wall and shadow sidekick* listed in reply #15 at the top of page 2 of this thread and the marquees and logos are the ones posted in reply #31 above.
My layout.nut is just a scratchpad of different concepts at the moment, nothing finished yet. I was in the process of adding user defined settings but haven't touched it for two weeks since I got busy elsewhere.
If damonxxx is after a simple layout I could probably put something together.

The wheel moving in and out code was based on what I saw in the ioflat theme by iOtero from here http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=2481.0
If you look in the ioflat games layout.nut file the particular code are lines 895 through to 898.
Which was a modification based on the code in the silky theme by Oomek here http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=1517.0
layout.nut lines 112 through to 122.
So, it is using the property move function of the animate module.

would be nice if you could post a layouttheme like one from the last video, with the cabinet appearing from the side...it is GREAT...no hurry have a lot going on myself ;(
could you also share the background video, mine is a little bit different with a LibretoSign, the Neon one looks cool, please...

Always searching for missing marquees+selfmade them... I prefer LQ Original over HQ Logo+Black (I rather wait or made myself) ...if you have some I missed...

Got last few weeks distracted by C64/Amiga stuff, redone both, was a Art-Renaming-Nightmare ahhh...had to be done-got Oneloadroms without crackintro for C64/switched to whdload on Amiga..memories!

Here are my latest Cabinets... have made some changes (edited/renamed/cloned...) currently adjusting them for Model1/2, when I have time....
...I think overriding the old ones would be best...UNLESS YOU CHANGED SOME YOURSELF ...had to warn ....because they may be gone...ha

'batch processing' is annoying. I'm going to either have to go Python script or Perl script.
I haven't looked into creating a Python script. I don't have Python installed at the moment either.
I think I've got a Perl script almost sorted out, but untested as I don't have Perl installed yet.

I was hoping to find a simple process that anyone could use, but it seems unfortunately not.
Edit:
Hmm, seems to use a Perl script you need PerlMagick. PerlMagick needs to be compiled with both ImageMagick and ImageMagick SDK installed as well as Perl installed under Windows. There's communication that you need specific versions of each software installed to get them to work together and it's becoming more of a headache than it is worth. So, back to the drawing board to find another solution I think.

Ok cool, I will start on putting something together for you.
The video is the same. The neon sign is a standard separate image where I use code in the layout.nut to have it cover the LibretoSign.
There are some 'user configured' settings I want to implement, so will give me a chance to figure that out as well.
Always searching for missing marquees+selfmade them... I prefer LQ Original over HQ Logo+Black (I rather wait or made myself) ...if you have some I missed...
Well, I've only just kind of started on this artwork stuff so was focusing on CPS1, 2, 3 having only just finished going through CPS1 to a level I was happy with.
Can probably put something together after the diamonds 3 cabinets come out, otherwise we're just going around in circles.
Mahuti made a very helpful .psd for of a Cabinet..
Have not done too much with the cabinets but...a little....
This is very cool and useful, but I already have a method for creating the cutting masks. I'm just trying to setup a batch process for myself, but if someone else already has a batch system setup then all good.

I've got a batching process sorted out. Using XnView MP. It is gui based so don't need to worry about learning a new code language.

I'll post more about it after I have some dinner.

Edit1:
Running into some problems with most cabinets I have tested have the ball tops in different positions slightly going in front of the screen. So, what is happening is it's causing issues with the alpha mask for the screen. Either I need to figure out a different method with XnView MP, otherwise that program can't quite do what is required.

@damonxxx, if you are using Photoshop then I may have to leave the batch processing to you. Most of the information I have read points to Photoshop having multiple batch processing options. What you want to do is not actually replace the existing images alpha channel, but just delete the wall and sidekick, essentially subtracting those areas from the alpha mask. I think the problem with how I have attempted with XnView MP so far, is that it is replacing the existing alpha channel with a mask I was feeding it.

Edit2:
With XnView MP I've setup a batch process that will spit out all correct alpha masks for each cabinet. Only thing now is to find something that will batch process those alpha masks back onto the original image files.

See attached image.

Good news. I've figured out how to get batch processing functioning. You have to use the legacy version of ImageMagick (v6).
I want to setup folder paths so you can define input and output paths. I should be able to put something together for when Diamonds 3 is released.

What is nice is that the process doesn't seem to damage the original graphics (except the side shadowkick), it just uses the alpha channel to hide what we don't want to see.
Check out the attached example output and see what happens when you turn the alpha channel on and off.

Edit:
Surprisingly I just noticed if you turn the alpha channel off on the original Diamond cabinet images they or some look a bit messy. So, you could say my process has tidied them up.
But.. I have optimised the process from 3-steps to 2-steps to speed things up and now the resulting 'messy' image will be back when alpha channel is disabled same as in the original Diamond cabinet images.

Cabinets to match with the games,
wanted to add the artwork too for my favorite games, but I am  slooooowwww....haha
...all work no play....;)
psd attached

RetroRalph shows CoinOPSDiamonds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u-aFBBvoVU

The cabinets you have realised are very cool, and work fine on the layout. I added moving flyer behind the wheel logos (similar CoinOPS theme) and it is awesome, better than Retro Animated background. There is only issue that can be improved, i.e. the fade effect on the right side, where you can see the cutting of the image...

Sorry friend no it was my intention to scream, and being lazy I did not click on the button to remove the capital, okay I'll wait in the meantime thank you. ;)

Updated on 18th December 2020 with some additions see below.
Small update 25th January 2021 to the Vewlix system style template.

*Warning this is not a fully automated process, you will still need to process the cabinets that are unique individually*
1. Download my set of cabinet-style-systems-templates.zip attached to this post (will add more)
2. Download my set of cabinet-style-uniques-templates.zip attached to this post (will add more)
3. Download my 2step.zip which includes 2step.bat and this instructions file that is attached to this post.
4. Download XnConvert (perhaps just the portable download "zipped program folder") https://www.xnview.com/en/xnconvert/#changelog (https://www.xnview.com/en/xnconvert/#changelog)
5. Download ImageMagick Legacy v6 Q8 is fastest (perhaps the portable version "ImageMagick-6.9.11-49-portable-Q8-x64.zip") https://legacy.imagemagick.org/script/download.php#windows (https://legacy.imagemagick.org/script/download.php#windows)
6. Have a set of original Diamonds cabinets (fullsize 1920x1080)

Instructions are in the attached 2step.zip file.

If anyone has any ideas to improve on the process let me know. I'd like to add user defined folders to 'step 2' if possible.

'2step' archive version 1b
Added a couple of screenshots in the 2step.zip file to help with instructions.

'Systems' templates version 1d
Updated the Vewlix template to smooth off the top right corner.

Current 'Systems ' templates:
Standard (Should work with 90% of the cabinets)
Atomiswave
Blast City
Egret II
Konami
Naomi
NSS - Nintendo Super System (user preference of with or without gamepad showing)
Sega & Konami
Vewlix

The above are just a basic naming tag, they may work with other games as well. Check the included example images in the zip file to see if they are a similar shape to your games cabinet.

'Uniques' templates version 1b
Added a bunch of unique cabinets.

Current 'Uniques ' templates:
After Burner
After Burner Climax
Enduro Racer
Guitar Hero
Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 - including flag, bros, and coins
Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off-Road & also with Track Pack
Super Sprint
Starwars Trilogy

Special Cases:
Diamonds 2 Guitar Hero Cabinet image has resolution 1990x1080, you need to crop 70 pixels off the empty space on right-side of image to make it 1920x1080 before processing it.

If anyone has any ideas to improve on the process let me know. I'd like to add user defined folders to 'step 2' if possible.

HELLO EVERYONE..
HI JCLAMPY69, GOOD WORK, TAKE YOUR TIME...
TOO LOUD??? HAHA..ok...

Have some new cabinets...
...renamed for mame...and some other/rest which I couldn't instantly match...think I have overfiltered my mame gamelist some are missing... have to look into it... wonder which rule it caused...
If necessary I would override cabinets... if you have no selfmade one you like...
Some need blank marquees because of the cabinets shape...rename the target marquee file to keep the original for other themes...

Cabinet 124+ update

@damonxxx, attached is a teaser image of the layout so far. It's nearly ready. I hope this is the look you were after?
Edit: Added game meta data bottom right corner. I optimised it so no slow down as far as I can tell.
Edit2: Sorry for delay, I spent the whole day setting up the search function.
Edit3: Hopefully last change to font sizes for search box and game info in bottom right corner.
Edit4: Final addition, the game scrolling progress bar on right side of screen. Next update post will be the release.
Edit5: Released now http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=3849.0

That is great jclampy69,
nice to see your masterful skills at work...much better than my macgyvered-frankenstein-version ;) ;) :P

...maybe add a pointer-option or highlight the selected game
...don't know about optional showing the flyer...

appreciate your work, a lot to do around xmas, can wait until it ready...

...ahhh just realised that you are right about fps and the VIDEO...noticed that it has problems everytime at the same timestamp...didn't make the connection to fps of the video...
...thought the theme caused it...
...maybe we find a nice background still-image until someone made a wonderful new backgroundvideo (winkwink :P)...

...maybe add a pointer-option or highlight the selected game
I've pondered that for some time. At the moment the selected games logo is quite large (maybe about 40% bigger than the next logo in list). Also, I've added a slight, hopefully non-annoying, 'blipping effect' animation to the selected logo. I'd say see how you find that and then if it's still a problem we could brainstorm further. Plus, the other logos fade to hide after a short delay once you have ended scrolling the list.
...don't know about optional showing the flyer...
I haven't thought of a suitable way to place a flyer in this layout. If you have an idea then draw a mock-up and I'll consider it. Maybe it requires a certain background style. Or, it is possible we could just assign it to a custom button to have a flyer pop-up?
...ahhh just realised that you are right about fps and the VIDEO...noticed that it has problems everytime at the same timestamp...didn't make the connection to fps of the video...
...thought the theme caused it...
Well, perceived lag could come from many places. The video, a non-optimised layout, dimensions of artwork files, artwork files stored on mechanical HDD or SDD. The users computer specs. Hardware driver settings, attractmode settings (hardware acceleration), the list goes on... ;)
...maybe we find a nice background still-image until someone made a wonderful new backgroundvideo (winkwink :P)...
I had a bit of a look for a background image but didn't find anything useful yet. I can get my brother to record some new background videos but that won't happen for some time.
In the meantime this background video has grown on me a bit. I've added a blur shader to it and the 'game room' sign and it helps to make the cabinet and game logos 'pop'.

Hey guys, has anyone put any thought into the cabinets where the art is cut-off on the left side.. Like in this Afterburner, or things like steering wheels, or anything hanging off the left side of the cabinet?

Either..
1) Keep edge of cabinet image up to left side of screen, thereby not showing anything 'missing'.
2) Rebuild the missing parts of cabinet. (possibly difficult)
3) ??

FYI - I happened to notice one cabinet image that still has the "brick wall" included: polepos.png (assuming I've found the latest download of those).

Another thing I've noticed is that a few of the cabinets are not full height and contain a marquee already (roadblst, tron, for example). Because of this, part of the separate marquee image shows at the very top, above the embedded marquee.

For the set of games I play I only found one missing marquee (bouldash, which is a pretty obscure one). Nice work!

Hi tsaylor,

for these special-shaped cabinets I have made a "Blank-Marquee" (They are in the download)...transparent dummy marquees with "nothing" ...
...for all I missed ....or new ones..."clone" one off those and replace/rename the marquee of the cabinet which is "problematic" ....(I think all are 6,07k ...sort after size to find one...)
I use TotalCommander and can rename the target file automatically, so I keep  the original marquee-file for later use with a (2)would advise you  to do similar or use a copied marquee-folder -NOT OVERWRITE!

I have a boulderdash marquee (pretty crappy one) sometimes the marquee is there...but for a bootleg or clone version...best look it up in mameui which shows naming/tree...
....and look at the first post in this thread...I have linked 2 much further developed themes...one off them is finished...they look similar..you have only to check the naming of the art_labels....

Thanks damonxxx. That sounds like a good approach, using a secondary marquee folder. I mostly just passed that along in case this is an ongoing project where you would want to correct those (perhaps by adjusting the top of the cabinet so that it either fits a normal marquee or simply covers up the normal marquee area.

And yeah, I think I have that same crappy marquee. I haven't found a clone with a cabinet, but that's fine, I'll just let it show the default generic one.

Also thanks for the mention of the other themes. I've been following those as well.

Hi damonxxx,
I want to experiment with the original cab files, uncut and unedited. Do you still have them? Can I download them from your mega account?

Many thanks,
Yaron

YES.

Voila...
For You and everyone who might want it...
I uploaded the raw unedited uncut 1920x1080+wall+sidekick+unsorted artwork... (NOT FOR DIRECT USE WITH THE CABINET-THEMES)
...1300x1920 was a good width to include some of the special cabinets/size...would I start again I would do some things different...made some big mistakes at the beginning haha..
...result is ok I think...needed some fixes here and there, just fixed the naomi cabinets, the screen is too wide on these, not the themes fault...
...heard we have a harsh critic....some friendly competition?...HAIL ATTRACT-MODE... 8)..haha

I will keep all things related to the cabs here. I hope you are ok with it.

There are two main things I saw that may need improving:
1. adding a shadow around the edges of the cabs thus blending them better with the other onscreen art
2. A few of the cabins needs to be re-cut.

Here is a comparison of a cab with the new edge shadow and without.
With shadow:

without shadow:

What do you think?

Hi,

looking really nice with a thin shadow/smooth edges...
...maybe test the look before the Arcade-Background, too. There you have no "direct" background like a wall or flyer...which "catches" the shadow...
...I think it would be good if we could settle for a "Unified Look" of future cabinet additions...
