Thanks for your reply tsaylor.
What you replied confirms what I found out on arcadecontrols forum.

Here the answer:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=158043.0

I’ve read also on another thread on arcadecontrols, but don’t have the link right now that the way attractmode is coded it is dependent on the win7/10 desktop resolution chosen.

So thanks to crtemudriver, you can inject first with vmmaker an additional custom resolution below 640x480i thus 320x240p, and use it.
I’ll test it and report back here.

N.B.: From what I read, and these are the words from “substring” the nice guy behind GroovyArcade (Linux iso including all is needed Grovvyarcade, crtemudriver, ….for setting up a computer box in a arcade cabinet) the best progressive low res resolution would be 384x288 @ 50Hz.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,160023.120.html

Some feedback after testing for all those that would be interested.

Definitely this theme is better in 640x480i @ 60Hz than lower progressive resolution.

My VMMaker refuse to use 384x288P @ 50 Hz on my Nanao MS9-29. Anyway, I won't get below the first mentioned resolution.

Hi tsaylor,

Is there a way to fix the theme resolution to 320x240 P ?
Any settings in the layout.nut to modify? Would the theme be compatible?

I’m currently running an arcade computer box within a candy cab with a crt arcade monitor.
For now, attractmode seems to start at desktop resolution 640x480i of win10.

Interlaced mode is not suitable, visually speaking.

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts on this

Amazing contribution effort!
What a theme !

Just a quick question, how can we adjust the ambient music volume in comparison to videos snap volume ?
Attractmode volume settings ambient doesn’t seem to work.

Thanks a lot for your combined works

teasing :)

That looks promising...

In the coming months, I will receive and test my configuration with attractmode and Arcadeflow in an arcade machine
I will for sure propose some improvement if suitable, for all CRT 15 kHz users...

Team SFML is really reactive.

Here is their reply:
This was changed in commit 3557c46. The last release of Attract-Mode was built before this commit was merged. Try building Attract-Mode with SFML master and see if this problem is fixed.

So potentialy the bug is solved but I need to build Attract-Mode with the new SFML master.

Is someone able to do it? Because honestly, I've never done it before... I'm not a developer...
It would be gratefully appreciated.

Nice avatar mahuti, I've always liked Skeletor 8)

I've done a little a bit of research on this issue.
It seems it is not directly an attractmode bug but SFML linked.

https://en.sfml-dev.org/forums/index.php?topic=25361.0

This is exactly what it is displayed in attractmode console: "Failed to set DirectInput device axis mode: 1".
The consequence is that SFML deactivate the controller and that is why attractmode is not registering any input from mine.

In the same forum post, there is another user with the exact same issue.
As per one of the SFML team member: "Something must be registering itself as gamepad, but not actually support gamepad functionality.".

Indeed my controller is registering itself as a Xbox 360 Gamepad Controller, but what's the point ?

The driver automaticcaly installed by WIN10 is precisely Xbox 360 Controller and my joystick is indeed a Xbox 360 Hori joystick compatible with PC as well.
The joystick is perfectly working under WIN10 or any other game so why is SFML disabling it, it's out of my competence field.

Anyone with that same behavior, or any "free" workaround ?

General / Joystick controls - SFML issue
« on: November 11, 2020, 08:06:01 AM »
Hi All,

Something strange occurring here, I've got attractmode setup to my needs and was manipulating frontend from keyboard till now.
Then I connected my joystick "Hori Real Arcade Pro EX" to the computer via USB and then turn back to controls menu in attractmode TAB menu.

No Joystick input are detected.

I do confirm joystick is well installed and driver associated by win10 is "Xbox 360 Controller".
The joystick is working in win10 joystick test fonction and even tested on online flash games.

But attractmode seems to not recognized it at all.
Even in joystick mapping option for JOY0, JOY1, ... when I select JOY0 and hit enter the setting remains to "default", I am not able to select anything else.

I can't figure it out and I'm starting to loose my sanity on this one ...

Any comment or advise is welcome :)

I wanted to give my feedback, on the modification hereunder based on 9.3 which is already out (impressive work!).

- Setting to turn off logo Arcadeflow from the screensaver is working. That is Great for all CRT users
- Autoupdate is working like a charm... that is awesome !
- I tested the attached layout.nut, that improved a little bit, but then try the videosnaps from progettosnaps on original layout.nut and it was even better. So let's forget emumovies HD videosnaps.

I now do understand that for Mame roms set which all have their proper resolutions, this is not a perfect solution.
Base on your explanation you do take a number of row up and down which ever the rom (game) resolution is and zooming to fill in the screen ?
That's why some rom (game) are more recognizable than others based on the frontend resolution.

Why not take into account the information stated in the resolution.ini for example here attached (This is from category.ini also from progettosnaps).
It would allow you to find out the proper resolution for each rom/game.
Would that allow you to adapt the screensaver resolution of Arcadeflow ?

Thanks again

Cool, I got my mame videos from here: http://www.progettosnaps.net/videosnaps/ and they are at the correct pixel resolution with correct display aspect ratio, but since you have pixel perfect snaps I can fix the layout to make it work with your videos ;)

That sounds like music to my ears, thanks a lot !

If you want to beta-test the feature, you can try with this attached layout: just put it inside your Arcadeflow folder. But before doing that make a copy of the current layout.nut just in case.
This version should use the static snap resolution to set the video resolution so you should be able to see a bit more of your video :)
If you want to see even more, look for the line:

   scanrows = 180.0

and increase it, be careful though that if a game has less than the lines you put there, it will look pretty bad.

Thanks a lot cools,

Have a nice day

You can simplify it a little (Status).

You may want to expand the Title rule, I know there's a couple of games that have "prototype" in their name you don't want to filter - see here: http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=3387.0

Similarly you may have some duplicate games (same game but different rom set) showing - is that intentional? Example: you have dkongf in your exceptions but you're not explicitly excluding the main parent set dkong, so you'll have multiple copies of Donkey Kong showing

Hi Cools thanks for your comment.

Indeed the exception list is based on some sets included in the parent sets which are like different games on their owns.
source: https://hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/26943-list-of-mame-clones-worth-playing-redux/

On the Title rule, you mean that the rule shall be as per below in order not to exclude some prototype worth playing ?
Quote
rule                 Title not_contains bootleg|internal build|\(prototype|prototype\)

N.B.: May you please elaborate on the parenthesis usage in the rule \(...\)

Have a nice day

Superb intro and greater logo !

The default version included in attractmode package is too low in quality in comparison of this one.

Thanks

For console games I coed the real game resolution in the layout, so even if the video is HD the filter is applied at the original console resolution. For MAME it's a bit more difficult, because each game has a different resolution, and this data is not in the romlist, so I usually get that from the game snap.
At the moment there's no solution, but just in case, do you have static snaps too? Are those in the original game resolution? Because I'm thinking of a workaround I can code for the new revision...

All my video snaps are coming from emumovies FTP source.
These are HQ ones for Mame and the resolution is 640*480 (Horizontal) or 480*640 (Vertical).

The Gameplay snaps or screenshots (still from emumovies FTP source) are on the contrary in the game original resolution.

I.e.: 3countb rom does have:
- a gameplay snap of 320*224
- a video snap of 640*280
