Just the thing for my repurposed MacMini
« on: February 20, 2016, 01:39:19 PM »
I had a Mac mini just sitting there and decided I'd extend it's purpose as a media server and use it with my X-Arcade tank stick.
It took me a little bit, but I got Mame configured nicely, got the filters working, artwork videos etc..
Now I just need to program my X-Arcade tank stick.
My only real problem was a lack of Mame / Mac knowledge  and  poor typing skills.  ;D
Luckily, I was able to search the forum and was able to find what corrections I needed.
Any how, I'm really glad I found this, it was mostly by chance looking for tutorials for setting up other front ends.
When I found out it ran native on OS X, I was all in, deleted my boot camp partition and everything!
Quick question has anyone been able to either set up Kodi to run from Attract-Mode or vice versa?
Are their any plans to have that as an option?
Thanks again all who contribute to this program!

Hey Brewski! :)

I'm also running Attract mode on a mac mini with MAME and it's real good!
I have not tried Kodi with attract mode unfortunately, but I will look into it.

Has anyone with the mac based version of Attract mode been able to run any other emulators besides MAME?   I haven't been able to launch anything else besides MAME unfortunately, but would love to be able to run SNES & NES emulators from Attract mode.

incognito, I'm having a heck of a time finding an snes emulator that runs properly on my Mac OS X  El Capitan.
I tried to run the following emulators outside of Attract Mode and none of them seem to work properly.
SNES9x freezes when I click on "open rom"
ZSNES just errors when I try to even open it, as well as Retroarch.
Let me know if you have any luck, I'll do the same!

Yes, same problems here!  Only thing that is running SNES good is OpenEmu.  If attract mode could launch OpenEmu, that would be great but I have not gotten that to work. :(

Hi and sorry for this late reply. In my Mac experience, you can run any Retroarch Core from within AttractMode as explained here:

https://mameonmacs.blogspot.co.at/2017/01/attract-mode-for-osx-setup-part-2.html

Only current limitation is that Retroarch must be started in Fullscreen Mode. I have not yet tried SNES, but see no reason why SNES Retroarch Cores shouldn't work.

Cheers, Stefan

Hi Inkagnito, to add kodi, create a new emulator called Kodi

# Generated by Attract-Mode v2.2.0-3
#
executable           /Applications/Kodi.app/Contents/MacOS/Kodi
args                 "[romfilename]"
rompath              /Applications
romext               .app
system               Kodi
artwork    flyer           $HOME/Kodi/boxart
artwork    marquee
artwork    snap            $HOME/Kodi/videos;$HOME/Kodi/snap
artwork    wheel

Cheers
