Looks great!

One thing bothers me thou.
When you switch the game - dark blue selection moves first - and then the cyan frame (see the screenshot - single video frame).
When you are quickly browsing game list - it's almost not noticeable. But if you are slowly switching games it looks awkward (at least for me).
Maybe it's the way the original UI works - but it bothers me.

It should be the other way around (frame first, highlight second) - or ideally, simultaneously.

Very awesome have to have it when available!

Have a question though...

Would it be possible to play a different background theme on switching systems?

Not a big deal but it was cool to do with mamewah when I was using it...

Can't wait :D - I'm wondering what you're gonna do with the icons above.

And if I can advise something - it's a good idea to test your theme on Raspberry Pi - even on early stage of development.
I haven't done that with FLAT BLUE theme - and it looks like RPi can't handle all that additional code and we have to rewrite it to make it work on RPi.

Next week I think I can upload the first version, I'm short on time but it takes a lot of work, very good designs! If I had thought and I already have facts for 5 or 6 systems, so do not worry about it :) I have to solve a problem with the favorites, the background for the other systems and go. Later I upload a screenshot of this. Thank you very much (I hope you have understood everything)

Don’t let people get to you. Take your time. This shit isn’t easy. It has been taking me for ever to complete a layout for my machine that I am happy with. It is a design and code learning experience. If people were really concerned, they would ask for a release on github and would help contribute with push requests.

Side note: Your theme looks amazing, and I cant image it being easy with all the menus and such.

Sometimes it is difficult, because I would like to have more time to dedicate, I also had to wait for some release of another person and I understand that sometimes we would like to have it right now, thank you very much for your advice! :)

ENGLISH (sorry for my bad english)

In my humble opinion I think you should only worry about the functions more than the appearance. Yes, it is strange to say this when we talk about themes xD, but what I mean is to leave the theme with the functions that you want it to got (as is the movement of the wheel, functions for when press "up" or "down", etc.) and everything aesthetic with options for users decide how to decorate to taste.

Something like:

Title: "Interface"

Options:
- "NES Mini" (which looks like the NES mini on all systems and only changes the name of the chosen system logo, as you think better. May also have an option to choose the one or the other)
- "Famicom Mini" (same as the previous one with the Famicom interface)
- "System Mini" (here would be the option of personalized funds per system, although in this case my recommendation is to just leave the most common systems, so that later if the user wants to add some not so common system, add the background image he want).

In this last point I do not think it bad that you want to make the funds for each existing system, but keep in mind that there are many and takes a long time make all. There are also the fact that in cases like the arcaded systems people usually make the filters (as in the case of Neo Geo, Capcom Play System, Zinc, etc). That's why I think it's best to leave this part to users, then little by little they are likely to uploading their own backgrounds from each system for your theme.

Use the FastStone Photo Resizer, it is portable and very easy to use, really usefull if you need to resize a bunch of images at the same time or even convert from jpg to png for example.

Just wanted to let you know this theme looks amazing. I actually bought a raspberry pi 3 just because of this theme. Keep up the good work and don't let all the impatient people get to you.

There are people who complain and people who do, I prefer to be the one that does, thanks for the recognition! If you have questions about the theme do not hesitate to do them: D

It is not a theme, they are the backgrounds of other systems to use with my theme, if you want to do some to collaborate, you can find the psd in the main post
yeah sorry my bad, I'm a bit silly today  :-[

Well... it's not theme related question - you have to set up attract mode first, see the step-by-step tutorials

No need to make a standalone version, Just don't add any other roms/emulators other than nes/famicom and the other systems won't show up, and there you have a nes/famicom only version.

Have almost the same graphical problem that you have with the box in the top left with a spinning arrow. The control prompts are almost pure white and can hardly be seen. Also, the selection is one off. It shows the border around SMB2, but it's actually selecting the previously shown game. I don't know how to fix it either. Otherwise, everything else seems to work.

I'm running it on a Pi3b, and have no problems what so ever,

whats are you running it on?

you could try making sure that the emulator names match that of the images for the system, i had a similar problem when i 1st started using the theme, also i believe this theme is designed for 1080p not sure if you are using a lower resolution that may also be the cause.

i will check my attract mode set up and post the settings i have if that helps?

Is there a naming convention I need to use for the systems?

The Megadrive/Genesis works fine as does the SNES. How ever the nes and the playstation will not show up. The layout shows the "default" layout. I have tried to make a layout for the sega master system and it doesn't want to show up as well (sms.cfg)

I have my system name "nes.cfg" and "playstation.cfg" this is a problem on both PC and rasp pi 3

Also my video snaps sounds play in the background over and over again. I Like that they show up in the menu with the extra info..but I don't want the sound of if playing unless I look at the extra info of course :P  So is this a bug?

On a side note..is there some way you can upload the sounds/music to mega so we can have them? (I know you said you were trying to find some place..just helping :) )

1. would there be a way to show the controls for the game?
2. Any way to add the manual like on the nes mini? (there are manual pack out there)
3. The background theme/sounds change per system?  (I might be able to make those..coding is my kryptonite :P )

I worked with a raspberry pi3 this theme but there has to be an error in the file layouts.nut, line 318 (with notepad ++) so the theme does not work properly with the same problem as "TuberViejuner".
I congratulate "davbarc" for a wonderful job.

Loaded it to my Pi2...runs a little laggy though. Not sure if something I did wrong or using a Pi2.

Also can't get the music to play while browsing games.

Is there a way to jump to another letter in my games list? Taking forever to scroll to get to games in the middle of the ABC's

Ordered a Pi3

Great work. Too bad it is not optimized yet for a rpi. It's kinda laggy.
Do you have your work on git? I like to take a look into the code and maybe make some changes.

has anyone got the scrolling to move as fluid as in the videos?

Yes. (Note: I do not use a raspberry pi, this is just on my PC)

The trick to getting it to run smoothly is listed in OP's post, you have to resize all of your flyer images to 310px height. This is easily and quickly done with the program IrfanView, which if you don't already have you should go download it as it's free and the best lightweight image editor/viewer out there.

To resize your flyers easily, just do this:

Navigate to the top left corner of the screen and go to File > Batch Conversion / Rename

Check the box where it says "Use advanced options (for bulk resize...) and hit the "Advanced" button on the right.

Check the box where it says "Resize" and set only the height to 310px, leave the width blank.

Then navigate to the "flyer" folder of whichever game system's flyers you are resizing. (Should be within the "scraper" folder of your Attract Mode folder)

Select all of the files in the folder and hit "add", then hit the "Start Batch" button in the bottom left. Wait for it to complete and then navigate to C:\TEMP (Or whatever folder you selected for the resized versions to be stored in) and copy or cut all the files. Then just navigate to your Flyer folder, select all files, delete them and replace them with your new files.

This should get it running smoothly on most machines.. I dunno about Raspberry Pi's but I imagine it would help. I would recommend doing this anyways regardless of this theme because there's no sane reason to be using 1000px-2000px size boxart for any frontend.

The only problem I'm having with this theme is I have no idea how to get the background image to change to the right ones for each system. Mine is just stuck on the default.

The only problem I'm having with this theme is I have no idea how to get the background image to change to the right ones for each system. Mine is just stuck on the default.

It is very easy to change the background images, but you cannot do it within attract mode. You have to do it by renaming files in the downloaded folder.

The layout folder "Famicom Mini Ui" consists of two folders; systems and ui. In order to change the background image for each system, you can start by simply duplicating the "Famicom Mini Ui" folder and rename it as the prefered system you want to crate a layout for.

Say you wanted to create a layout for playstation, rename it as "Playstation Mini Ui" (you can rename it however you like).

After that enter the folder named "systems". Delete (or rename) the files called "default-menu.png" and "default.png".  After that, the final step is to rename the the images you want to use in your layout. In this case rename "playstation-menu.png" to "default-menu.png" and "playstation.png" to "default.png".

After that you are set. Simply add the layout to your system and choose "Playstation Mini Ui" as the layout for your emulator within attract mode.

Edit: Sorry, this was terrible advice! Even though it kind of worked..The much simpler and more appropriate approach to get what you want, is to name the emulators/Displays within attract mode according to the case names used in file "layout.nut" (I believe they are capital sensitive).

Use the following naming conventions:
Playstation
Displays Menu
snes
famicom
Game Boy
Sega Genesis

If the name of the emulator doesn't match any of the names, the default background and settings will be used.

this is because by default those buttons are set up as [NextGame],[PrevGame], and [select]. just hit tab, scroll up to controls, find previous game, next game in the list, and remove their inputs. remember to use the custom2 input (at the bottom of the controls list) as your selection button while in the mini menu. I hope you like attract mode!

also, if you want to try some other great themes try here: http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=481.0

Hello friend, you just have to look in the code where the assigned buttons "up" and "down" are and change the "break;" by "return true"
