looking for a spinner??
« on: January 11, 2018, 03:45:15 PM »
Kensington trackball with scrollring works great for a trackball and spinner and was only 30 bucks. It does kinda jump but with some tweaking I got it so you don't really notice.  Tried it on tron and it did well. I'll update this when I get more info. I just got this today. Arknoid is next after the kiddy's go to bed!!! FINGERS CROSSED!!

Which one do you have?

Looked at pictures of several Kensington trackballs, and seems like the trackball would pop out when playing arcade games? Also, does the scrollring actually spin i.e. like does it keep spinning if you give it a whirl like an actual arcade spinner?

Horay for a Mac app too! I might get one just for everyday use. Kids wrecked my Mac trackpad and they expensive.

be careful.... the app for it is a pos! but it is plug n play on all systems... supposedly it even works on xbox and ps. idk just saw a few docs in some forums about it.... but i do know you have to do some compatibility crap and what not to work the app... i just gave up and use it pnp.... works great out the box....

I finally purchased and used the orbit trackball... I love it! The Mac app isn’t too bad either. Wish it could switch to next virtual window instead of the mission control window selector thingy. I have a key combo to do it so not a big gripe. My daughter has small hands and has to use a second hand to click. But it’s perfect for me! Ball is smooth and scroll wheel makes it awesome.

Very interesting. Is it good enough to use for Marble Madness, by chance?

I don’t know. I’m using it for productivity. It feels smooth, but doesn’t free roll like my happ. Obviously.

Yes!! Marble madness works well tron works good and tempest. Now sorry to say arknoid doesn't like it to much. But it has worked with all other track ball and spinner games so far for me. Best 30 bucks I've spent... Lol

There is another option if you a DIY type. I just started this project myself.

Thingaverse has an Illuminated spinner with some great instructions for assembly.
I was able to use 3Dhubs and have 2 sets of PLA translucent spinners 3d printed for 20.00 including shipping.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2021152

The only part I am still waiting on is the Photosensors.. They are coming from China.. so will be in soon.

I will try and post pictures when I finish my build.

Great info, thanks!

Just ordered one myself in a nearby shop for 10€ (pickup) :)

Gonna get the Arduino and the sensors only. No leds.

I wonder how well this one works:

Kensington Expert Wireless Trackball

A different category price wise ($70) thought.

This looks interesting too:
