Awesome... the new Layout works great...

Now I need to acquire Flyers and Cabinets images... do you have a suggested source to get artwork?  Also,  I am guessing the INFO field is pulling from the Arcade History data file... where do I put that file in order for it to read it?  Same folder as the layout?

Thanks!

Were you supposed to include animate2 module with this layout?

FWIW I am using an ARpiCADE Pi3 system running on an arcade monitor that is in vertical orientation.

Unfortunately this layout comes up horizontally... and only takes up approximately 1/3 of the horzontal screen (pretty much like the video shows) that has been posted.

If I turn the image using the keyboard in attract it still only takes up 1/3 of the vertical screen and the images are super stretched.

This should be a vertical layout... right?   So it should fit the entire screen of a low-res crt screen that is oriented vertically.

What am I doing wrong?  Also... is it right that there are no display options?

Finally... how do you switch between tabs?  I only have a single stick and 2 buttons to work with (well,  and P1 and p2).

Thanks for the help...

General / Re: Grid Layout?

Very odd.  I am using attract mode on the Pi3 and while I have a LAYOUT.NUT and folder for almost every layout in a layout folder... there is none for COOLS or GRID or FILTERED GRID... anywhere.  Obviously it's SOMEWHERE but for the life of me I can't find it.

Bizarre.

Yea,  at first I had the extra folder inside the folder...

...upon fixing that,  I can see some layout options (from my recollection from last night... I was testing a lot of layouts)... but yeah,  it locked up.

I wonder what I could be doing wrong.  I unzip to my LAYOUTS folder... when I select Arcadeflow Theme it simply shows a tanish background... a could of white highlighted boxes... and that is it.  No videos.  No snaps.  No marquees.  Etc.

Wow that is not good, not good at all. I'm not sure if the theme is compatible with the Pi, I can't check it, but have you followed the instruction for the creation of the "blur" art category, to obtain the blurred backgrounds? Maybe I can add it as an option so if you don't want/can't generate blurred backgrounds you can still use the theme with a simple background...

There is no option for vertical display because the theme should adapt automatically, at what resolution are you running it? Did you have the chance to try v 1.0 or only 1.1?

I only got to run 1.1... not 1.0.  I did NOT generate the backgrounds... I "assumed" it would simply run with a blank background (to test the theme of course).

I am running on an arcade monitor so the resolution is lower... 320x240, etc... the theme I've been using adapts to a few different low resolutions depending on the resolution of the game that was last played (I do believe).

It just may not run on the Pi3...

General / Grid Layout?
« on: February 11, 2018, 02:18:06 PM »
Is the "GRID" and "FILTERED GRID" layouts that I have somehow incorporated as part of attract mode?  I ask because there is no layout for GRID or FILTERED GRID... or for VERTICOOLS for that matter (but it too appears in the menu of layouts to choose from).

Where can I find the code for the GRID layout?

Under Layout options there is nothing to change to vertical mode or any such thing.

Am I supposed to configure folder locations, etc or something somewhere?

Thanks!

EDIT: I just tried this in 3.811 by just dropping it in the LAYOUTS-ATTRACT folder on the BOOT drive (I'm using an ARpiCADE BTW)...

...nope.  It just crashes... essentially doing nothing but making the layout that was active prior "stick" ...

I am not sure if it's just incompatible with the Pi3?

Looking forward to trying this theme out on my arcade cabinet... (standard resolution)...

...still no love.  I've tried a few things and the best I can accomplish is a blank square in the middle of the screen...somehow.   It sure sucks having a "vision" in the head that I can't actually code to work....

>sigh<

I just remembered that I have this video on youtube of my MAMEWAH front end...

You can see the behavior I am attempting to mimic a few times throughout...

This layout was done back in 2009... it's been a while!

https://youtu.be/K1WgseWhXD8

You can see the same behavior on the Layout I did for Mamewah for my horizontal MAME cabinet as well...

yaa me too.....dont know how....

if you have any free time..bust out some quick code! for
us ...

after seeing some of the stuff you have done...this looks very small... :)

To be crystal clear... I only tweaked this layout from the original.  I did nothing special.   The original layout was done by someone else then tweaked by the guy who does the ARpiCADE... then I tweaked that a bit.  I am but a hack of a hack... at best.

Exactly!

;)

Too bad I have absolutely no idea how to do that.

:D

Another idea...

Can you set it up so that the outside windows are snaps and only the middle immediately jumps to video (and if no video available,  jumps to a snap)?

What is the performance hit moving from game to game if this is possible?

I ask because the performance on the Pi3 with videos enabled (where vids are shown in all 3 windows) isn't up to snuff.

I'd love to play with whatever code you may have come up with.  :)

Thanks!
