just wanted to chime in that i'm seeing the same thing. some images will load slowly, some won't load at all and i see the same error in the log...and like you, it opens just fine outside of AM. i'm running on a rpi 3, so i can view the images in lxde desktop fine or through smb share.

I was wondering if all of that code i see about the scale and stuff might be the problem. i was going to try to poke around with what i could strip out just to make it work on my own system. i'll let you know if i have any luck.

Going with images vs videos made in functional, but not smooth/fast.. Also makes it more boring  :)

I'm surprised if just having video would be the cause though, as I've used full screen snaps before. Do you know which script is doing the heaviest load?

I really love the look of this, so hopefully we can figure something out. I've removed things like the fade module from some other layouts to make them a little smoother on the pi

I got it to work on my pi 3 by leaving it zipped, but it was super laggy. I might poke around the nut file to see what I can remove without losing the look and feel.

Simply Austin is working on something very similar. I believe he'll be posting his first version here soon.

Hey dmmarti, the generate favorites script is being kind of weird. i can watch the terminal while it's happening and it shows it grabbing all of my favorites from each system, but at the end of it, the final list doesn't have either the fba or neo geo games listed...it's weird. Any thoughts?

Sure jvlk. Here's the .nut file to use, and then place the preview folders/contents in the /.attract/menu-art/ directory to use the backgrounds i have (ie the giant NES)

I'm a huge novice with the layout coding, so it's pretty janky. I can share if you want, but I didn't do much. Here are some shots of it being used as the display menu layout as well as for a system:

late to the game on this one, but I wanted to chime in to say I really like this. I have it applied across my whole system. My favorite kodi layout (low list) is now my favorite attract mode layout :-). Just curious, did anybody add anything else to this layout? i did a small change to have the game snaps (static) be the background art if fanart isn't available and added the system name to the bottom right corner in place of the clock

Great theme for consistency across all systems.

And I just want to add that your script for generating the favorites list is awesome. I just switched back to Retropie with Attract Mode from using RecalBox, which had a fork of emulationstation that merged all system favorites to it's own list and was really missing that for about 2 days until I found your theme

This would effectively make Hyperspin irrelevant in my mind. The only thing AM is "missing" is the sexy starting screen where you choose which system you want to go into.

That will be an option in the new version... in the video posted above, the part where there are no wheel images showing is actually the "Displays Menu" in Attract-Mode (which can be customized now).  I've got it set up to show the HyperSpin system theme that corresponds to the display name as you move through the menu.  You can also configure Attract-Mode to launch straight into the displays menu if you want to start at a system selection screen...

That's awesome, man. Seriously, attract-mode is amazing. It's so lite and so much easier than Hyperspin and is catching up to it in flashiness, but can remain simple and clean looking to (like emulationstation). Plus it runs on Linux...this should be way more popular than it is.

Thanks guys. Like I said, I did go ahead and convert all of my mame vids just with a ffmpeg script. I have heard of handbrake and have used it to convert mkv to mp4 before. As of now, the flv files work for all of my other systems, since only mame has vertical snaps. Doing my conversion, I noticed the mp4 files are a bit smaller, so I may go ahead and convert them all anyway to save some space.

Thanks again to h0tw1r3 for helping me figure this out and to akafox for the ubuntu debs all together.

Thanks man. I'll try this deb out tonight, even though I already converted my vids. Is this an "official" release?

Fyi, I ended up running an ffmpeg script overnight  to just convert my entire folder of mame vids from flv to mp4 (9 gigs) and now everything works perfectly. Thanks so much for helping me get to the bottom of this!
