mulit disc games and rom list

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

I am wondering if anyone has good strategies for dealing with games that span multiple discs in relation to the rom list geneation for an emulator.

For example say a game is spread over 3 iso files (<game>[disc1].iso,<game>[disc2].iso,<game>[disc3].iso) in the rom list you would only want the game to appear the once and not 3 times. Can this be handled in attract-mode?

The best strategy I've seen so far is to create an .m3u playlist for the isos, and then point the emulator to the .m3u (and also, changing the game extension to just .m3u in AttractMode)

This is possible with mednafen and probably others.
