206 views and no reply. Guess that says "Nope there isn't a Flashback like theme for AM." LOL :)

Hopefully someday. :)

Themes / Atari Flashback 50th Anniversary-like Theme?
« on: February 21, 2024, 08:17:01 PM »
Hi Everyone.

I wanted to ask if anyone is aware of a theme for AM that looks similar to the Atari Flashback 50th Anniversary menu system? I'm building a console emulation PC with AM and was hoping to find a theme that looked similar to the GUI found on the 50th Anniversary Flashback unit.

I did do some searching on Google but didn't find anything.

If anyone is aware of one or something similar, please let me know.

Thanks,
John

Emulators / Re: A7800 Emulator & Attract Mode

Ok.... This is  strange but it is now working.

I tried removing the executable and args lines from the config and then put the path to the batch file I wrote in the executable field. When I tried to run a game in Attract Mode it worked just as the batch file did directly in windows. The problem was I could only load a specific <romfile.a78> file from within the batch. So, I took the batch line out and retyped the original executable and args field info as shown in my initial post. Now everything is working, I don't know what the hell was going on. LOL All I have left to do is figure out how to get the emulator to go into fullscreen mode instead of window mode, but that isn't an Attract Mode issue.

Here is the current A7800.cfg file, I'm pretty sure its the exact same as the one in my initial post, except now it works. LOL

Emulators / A7800 Emulator & Attract Mode
« on: February 11, 2024, 05:32:13 AM »
Hello.

Does anyone here have the A7800 emulator (was part of MESS/MAME years ago) working in Attract Mode?

I've tried to get the command lines set properly and so far it looks like it starts the emulator as I see the emulator window pop up, but then it closes after 2 or 3 seconds and takes me back to the Attract Mode menu. I've tried everything I can think of, but it's not working.

If I try to use the A7800 emulator directly (aka not in Attract Mode) it works fine.

I'll paste my A7800.cfg file below in case it may help.

Code: [Select]
# Generated by Attract-Mode v2.7.0
#
executable           D:\[Emulation]\A7800\a7800.exe
args                 a7800 -cart1 xm -cart2 "[romfilename]"
rompath              D:\[Emulation]\A7800\roms;d:\[Emulation]\A7800\bios
romext               .zip;.a78;.bin
artwork    flyer           $HOME/Atari 7800/boxart
artwork    marquee
artwork    snap            D:\[Emulation]\A7800\\artwork\Atari 7800\STANDARD\snap
artwork    wheel

If anyone sees anything missing or entered incorrectly, please let me know.

Also, I tried creating a batch file to launch the emulator with XM support and a single game (1942). The batch file works fine. Here is the batch info.

Quote
@echo off
a7800 a7800 -cart1 xm -cart2 "d:\[Emulation]\a7800\roms\1942 (2022) [Unknown].a78"
pause

Thanks,
John

PS: Here is the link to the emulators webpage, not sure if there is any useful info regarding this issue.

Themes / Re: 60 in 1 jammed icade theme question
« on: October 15, 2022, 07:05:26 AM »
Hi Everyone.

I just found Attract Mode as I was hoping to find a theme for Emulationstation or similar front ends that had the Jamma 60 in 1 iCade theme. My search took me here. :)

Anyhow, I downloaded the theme and everything looks good, but I have one question and one issue that I'd like to mention in case someone here might be able to help me.

1. I plan to use this on my vertical arcade system so this issue isn't too important, but on my PC which is a 4k wide screen monitor, the theme stretches automatically to the full size of the screen. Is there any way to tell Attract Mode or the iCade theme to not stretch and to simply stay centered on the screen reaching the top and bottom and if necessary leaving empty space on the left and right to keep the theme from stretching?

2. I needed to setup my Attract Mode with multiple copies of MAME. This is working fine, but I noticed an issue with the iCade theme that doesn't happen if I try other themes.

My Main Display Menu has 3 options to choose from.   MAME (4-Way), MAME (8-Way), MAME (Hacks).

When you select one of the 3 main menu choices it takes you to the proper sub menu, but the images are still from the main menu unless I move up one grid which moves the grid and then automatically fills up with the game images as normal.

I tried using a different theme for the main display menu just as a test. When I do that and select one of the 3 main menu options, I get taken to the proper iCade sub menu and all the images for the games are there properly right from the start. No empty grid as described above.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I'll try to attach an image showing the issue.

The 1st image is the main menu. The 2nd image is the 8-Way games sub-menu but as you can see the game name and the x/y number of games shows, yet the grid is still showing the images from the main menu. When I press up on the screen, the 3rd image occurs which properly fills the grid with the game images.

Thanks,
John

keilmillerjr,

I look forward to what you can come up with. I really liked that Pandora layout on my old arcade system. Having a similar design for Attract Mode will be great.

John

PS: Did you email the author of the ES theme about being able to port it to Attract Mode?

General / Question on Themes
« on: July 06, 2020, 11:34:43 PM »
Hi Everyone.

I just discovered Attract Mode while researching info for setting up a Windows PC type system similar to the Retro Pie setups for the Raspberry Pi.

I do have a newbie question and hope someone here might be able to answer it or give me some advice.

The question: Is there a program or method to convert a EmulationStation theme to an Attract Mode theme?

I found the following ES theme that was based on the Pandora Box 6 which I have in one of my older bartop arcade cabinets.

https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/20380/pandora-theme/2

I have used this theme in ES on my Pi and would love to see it in Attract Mode on my Windows PC build.

If anyone has any info on whether there is an automated process for converting themes from ES to AM or if there is a set of instructions on how to manually convert a theme, please let me know.

Thanks,
John
