cool.
i'm not familiar with arch but if I recall it's a minimal install normally?
Looking to put this on an older PC with just a few GB of ram for vertical classics.
It runs lubuntu fine for my mame purposes.

After further playing around on CHIP PC I realized I can't compile SFML with hardware acceleration on it on that system.
So i'm pretty sure if the version of SFML on whatever distro you have doesn't support hardware acceleration for that device, you are going to have a really slow front end on that device.

you might want to look at the Pegasus front end on retropie forums or RetroFE.
both use different libraries for hardware acceleration and may work.

:)

I was going to guess that but since I don't quite know what i'm doing I wouldn't know if I was doing it wrong or if it just didn't work. :)

Thanks.

Scripting / fe.game info and number of buttons?
« on: March 23, 2018, 05:31:45 PM »
Does fe.game_info( id ) have an id for number of buttons?
I don't see it here.

https://github.com/mickelson/attract/blob/master/Layouts.md#game_info

I have it setup in my romlist for mame though.

I want to make a plugin for the RPI that will light up LED's hooked up to the GPIO's and placed in the control panel buttons to tell the player which ones to use for each game.

But i'm not familiar with plugins scripting and didn't want to beat my head against the wall if that particular id isn't recognized.

Good luck with your project! Have you done a CRT before?

I am glad I did one, it was fun... but in all honesty I probably won't do another.

I will try to get my screensaver .nut file and assets and so forth up tonight or tomorrow. If you are going straight 240p my screensaver should work for you right "out of the box". People using different resolutions will have to monkey with it more.

Never built a cab before and was going to go LCD but this will probably be the only cab I have time to build for a while with summer approaching and i've been collecting 19" & 20" CRT TV's since rpi was able to do 240p.

very cool.
I'm building a CRT cab right now and was looking for a 240p layout.

sounds to me like sfml isn't using the b-pi's gpu.

When I run into issues with emulators launching I open a command prompt and run the command to launch a rom manually to see the error message.

I guess I don't understand what you are trying to do.
Are you watching movies in attractmode?
AttractMode can make use of "video snaps" to showcase whatever is highlighted -- typically a game.  These movies get framed on screen based on the theme being used.

what is the resolution of the video's and what file formats?
Generally 640x480.  Generally 59.94 or 60fps.  Basically NTSC (deinterlaced).  Standard resolution and framerate for the vast majority of video games that exist.

what are you using them for?
Preview video's?
Correct.

I get it.  Most people use this software on their Raspberry Pi, and happily it does include the all-too-ubiquitous hardware acceleration on those devices.  Obviously that's going to limit the number of people who notice that videos have major problems on PC.  So will the fact that one doesn't necessarily make use of high-quality videos and thus never encounters a scenario where AttractMode's 1-core-only playback caps out their CPU.  I am just saying that when a person _is_ using PC and _is_ using decent video snaps, the utility of this software gets hampered dramatically, because no other frontend suffers from this particular problem.

I thought you were using high-res video's.
i'm pretty sure I used video's at that resolution with no issues on linux on hardware ancient compared to what you have.
But with a dedicated video card.
Not the on-die graphics.

I'm on vacation next week and need the next few days to get stuff done before i go but i'll try to toss attractmode on my win 10 i5 machine with dedicated video card tonight and use the linked video you have.
to see if I see what you are talking about.

I don't currently have attractmode on a PC anymore.

check to make sure you have the proprietary drivers for your CPU installed.

Do you mean the microcode firmware for intel CPU?

Yep!
