Title: Windows 7 using Attrackmode to launch exe files
Post by: Kaboom1701 on March 19, 2022, 02:23:56 PM
Hello guys,

New to the crowd here so dont roast me too hard as I'm new to all this.

I'm trying to set up a super simple front end to launch a few exe game files. Nothing to complicated but I can't seem to figure it out.

I've searched the forums and found a few threads and did my best to follow the advise given but I'm not having any luck.

So I have Attrackmode installed and running. Created a Emulator called "Windows Games.  Created a folder called PC in the romlist file. Copied and paste the link to that folder in the Rom Path(s) settings in the emulator. Changed the Rom Extention(s) to .ink

But when I try to generate a Rom list nothing happen and there is nothing on the main menu when launched?

Any help walking me through this would be appreciated.

Thx

Extension should be .lnk (LNK) and not .ink (INK).

Got it.

These are the settings that got it to work. Thx progets!

Now one trick. Is there a way to make the front-end launch straight into a game instead of the attack menu? Then just set the menu to come up to a hotkey?

Configure-->General-->Startup Mode=Launch Last Game

I've tried all the different layout and none of them are like this....

Anyone know where I can find this layout?

Thx

Might be this when using the vertical option http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=2641.msg18109#msg18109 (http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=2641.msg18109#msg18109)

Seems to be close enough. Thx

The art work files doesn't seems to read the same as the other basic themes. Strange

The layout uses "marquee", "snap" and "wheel" artwork names. You configuration didn't have any path listed for marquee or wheel. You can add the paths to your configuration or modify the layout to use the names you want.

I did find where you can add the file paths for the marquee, snap, wheel and flyers. It work in Basic theme but not in the SDarcade theme. Unless there is some speacial format needed for the theme?

Artwork names need to exactly match the romnames, except for the file extension. Since your romlist names contain "- Shortcut" this is likely your issue. If there isn't an exact match (minus file extension) Attract Mode won't see/find the artwork.

Since you are new to Attract Mode you should read some of the tutorials:

I will give you a roasting

What is Attrackmode?

Is that a parallel universe Attract Mode? lol

Sorry couldn't resist, need to breath some life into the forum.

Good that you are all sorted, I have PC games at some point to do myself, so handy to read these threads for reference.

Regards

Mark

We are all newbies at some point, hell I am still a newbie I just talk a lot of shit ;)

I have been here about three four months now, and I am still learning something new such as how to add favourites properly.

However, always check your spelling first, and then double check it. The amount of times I have made a mistake, pulled my hair out screaming at the computer, I spend hours on the problem, just to notice that it is a spelling mistake, or maybe I have moved a directory and not changed the file location paths.

However, the best things about errors, is that you learn from them, so you tend not to make the same mistake twice, and that becomes easier on how to set up something else that might be similar.

Also if a mistake is causing frustration, take a break from it, because the more frustrated you become the worse the mistake gets.

Oh and try not to do things when you are tired, tiredness leads to making mistakes as well, have a cut off point at a certain time.

Regards

Mark
