General / Re: Help Required Using Hyperspin Theme
« on: May 25, 2016, 09:36:58 PM »
- There is no need to move the hyperspin.nut file. It's in the correct place by default.
- Your Attract-Mode "Display Name" must match your HyperSpin system folder names.
- You need to set your "Layout" for the desired system to be "Media"

There are details about this in the ReadMe.txt.
"For Hyperspin, copy the Hyperspin "Media" directory into its own directory
in the Attract-Mode layouts directory.  Create a Display in Attract-Mode
and configure the layout to be the directory you copied "Media" into.  The
Display's name needs to match the name of one of the system subdirectories
in the Hyperspin "Media" directory.  This will allow Attract-Mode to find the
Hyperspin themes and graphics to use.  So for example, naming the Display
"MAME" will cause it to match Hyperspin's MAME/Themes/* for themes,
MAME/Images/Artwork1/* for artwork1, etc.  Note that the wheel images are
located using Attract-Mode's built-in wheel artwork.  Wheel images located in
the Hyperspin directories are ignored."

Follow these steps to setup MAME with HyperSpin Themes in Attract-Mode:
1) Create a "Media" folder under \Attract-Mode\layouts\
2) Copy your MAME HyperSpin media folder from \HyperSpin\Media\MAME to \Attract-Mode\layouts\Media\MAME
3) edit your MAME display name to be "MAME" (in Attract-Mode press Tab to enter the "Configure" menu and then go to "Displays"--><your Attract-Mode mame emulator name>-->Name = "MAME")
4) edit your MAME display to be "Media" (in Attract-Mode press Tab to enter the "Configure" menu and then go to "Displays"-->MAME-->Layout = "Media")

If you don't have a HyperSpin install or you're not familiar with HyperSpin you need to understand that a general system theme would be called default.zip and a game specific theme would be called the exact name as the specific game rom (pacman.zip for example). So you should have \Attract-Mode\layouts\Media\MAME\Themes\default.zip and/or \Attract-Mode\layouts\Media\MAME\Themes\pacman.zip.

You can also use HyperSpin themes for the Attract-Mode "Display Menu" by making sure you have the HyperSpin "Main Menu" folder in \Attract-Mode\layouts\Media\Main Menu.

If you are using RocketLauncher with HyperSpin you can change the FrontEnd option to Attract-Mode vs. HyperSpin for a pretty simple switch. If you're not using RocketLauncher or don't want to with Attract-Mode, you just need to modify the Emulator.cfg files to point to your HyperSpin Media (wheels, videos, box art, etc.). You can even import your HyperSpin databases into Attract-Mode from the command line. You can also copy over your "Favorites" list too.

Progets:
What device you use, Rpi 2 or RPi 3?
On the Rpi 3, I was unable to install a wireless Loitech keyboard K700 or on the clean version Retropie 3.7. On the Rpi 2 and dualboot Openelec and Retropie 3.0  Logitech keyboard works.  :-\

I run a wireless keyboard, RPi3 with RetroPie 3.7/Attract Mode. I compiled my own image though, no issues with the keyboard except as Progets pointed out the actual A-Z keys don't work in the X version. I use the non X version anyway so it makes zero diff to me.

I'm using a RPI3. My issue is exactly as described above, the keyboard works in X windows but not the A-Z keys. The keyboard works fine outside of X windows.

Mayki07-

You might try playing around with the sleep command that Floob put in to address keyboard problems with AM.

You can find it here -> /etc/profile.d/10-emulationstation.sh

If you use the non-x SFML & Attract-Mode compile and then run attract mode with x windows, the keyboard doesn't work no matter how long of a delay you use. I have tried this with Floobs image and my own image and they both have the same problem. The funny thing is that the tab and arrow keys work fine on the keyboard but you can't type in Attract-Mode.

How many roms do you have working in mame2003?

I am using mame2010 because use an earlier romset (0.179) and filtering clone roms I have 650 roms working.

Thanks

Your welcome.

All the steps above will also work with mame2010 except for the high score setup.

Mame2010 doesn't support no-nag screens or high score. It's also still considered experimental. It works well and can play some games that mame2003 can't but some games lag a bit in mame2010 that work fine in mame2003. Really the best solution would be to only run the mame2010 games that mame2003 doesn't support by creating separate emulators and romlists and then merging the lists together to get the best of both worlds.

You must have a typo on your rom set. I don't think a 0.179 set is available.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "working roms". Have you actually played each game on the Pi3? I can tell you that with a correct full mame2003 rom set I get 4,703 games, 3,411 with the "No Clones" filter above and 1,610 with the "Clean List" filter above. I will say that my mame.xml was not generated with a correct .078 version of mame so "working games" in my list might not be accurate even though I'm filtering on it in the "Clean List'.

I fixed romset number, yes... it's 0.139  ::)

Working roms for me is: I am tested all roms one by one. And I have 650 roms working without problems.

I don't know what's "Clean List". Without clones? An option of AM?  :o

I don't try mame2003 because I don't have this romset  :-[

Thanks again

Most of your .139 set would work with mame2003 or you could build a .078 set from it using the info here https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs. If you're happy with mame2010 don't waste your time unless you really want to bypass the nag screens and/or want to save high score information.

When I say "No Clones" and "Clean List" I'm referring to the filters I'm using in the post above. These are an AM option using the "Filters" to sort your games in various ways.

But... So I need to remove the marquee roms games? Because now I have mame.png, etc

Probably not the simple option but I ran a command to export all the file names of the roms for each console I was using to get a list.
Then used a logo for each console (if I could find a transparent background one I would) Then copied the image to the Marquee folder and repeat copied it for the amount of roms so had the same image X amount of times and exported a list of these file names
Then ran a batch script which renamed each logo file to the rom name one after another to get a full list of marquee files for each rom...

Hope I explained that??? Sounds complicated, it wasn't really, I can share the scripts and process in detail if that's allowed and people want the info. Cheers :)

Actaully it's about as simple as it gets, here I'll make it easy for you. Here is a pic of one of my Marquee folders in one of my emulators.
Save a PNG or JPG with the same name as your emultor, In the case AdvMAME. IF there is any missing artwork or if it will use it, or if you would rather have just one for the system (AdvMAME in this case) only put the Emulator PNG or JPG in the folder.

Now point your frontend to the folder in your emulator setup, in my case it looks like this.

"artwork    marquee         /home/pi/.attract/scraper/AdvMAME/marquee"

Easy.

Progets - Im just assuming here he might be talking about the hyperspin emulator packs available from certian place.

@Omamez - Nothing in this post was from me. My only comment on this was agreeing with others that a simple "Game Console/System" marquee could be accomplished without needing more than one image per console/system. If you read the thread he made an image for every game just to show one system marquee.

These are some of my personal preferences to setting everything up with Floobs image (or your own AM image based off of RetroPie). I like to use RetroArch with MAME-2003 since it supports the most games, skips the nag screens, can save high scores and can be stretched to 16:9 if you want a full screen look.

1. prepare to create a correct and fully populated MAME romlist
   a. obtain a mame.xml (generate it from your Window's MAME install or download one) and place it in /home/pi/.attract/mame-config folder
   b. modify the following two lines in your the MAME-2003 emulator to read
          info_source
          import_extras        /home/pi/.attract/mame-config/mame.xml;/home/pi/.attract/mame-config/catver.ini;/home/pi/.attract/mame-config/nplayers.ini

2. setup MAME 2003 to save high score information
   a. run any game using the MAME 2003 emulator (this will cause the /home/pi//RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003 folder structure to be built)
   b. download the dat files at http://highscore.mameworld.info/download.htm (top link)
   c. unzip the file
   d. copy hiscore(pre_mame0133u1).dat to /home/pi//RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/hsdb folder
   e. rename /home/pi//RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/hsdb/hiscore(pre_mame0133u1).dat to /home/pi//RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/hsdb/hiscore.dat

3. setup the history information for the MAME 2003 games
   a. download the history.dat from http://www.arcade-history.com/?page=download
   b. unzip the file
   c. copy the file history.dat to /home/pi/.attract/mame-config/ folder
   d. in AM Configure-->Plug-ins-->History.dat-->
      Enabled = Yes
      File Path = /home/pi/.attract/mame-config/history.dat
      Generate Index--> <execute>
   e. restart AM to be able to see and use this information

4. setup filters if you use a full MAME 2003 rom set (0.78)
   a. in AM Configure-->Displays-->MAME 2003-->Add Filter-->
   b. enter the following filters
   filter               "Clean List"
      exception            Name equals pacman
      rule                 Title not_contains bootleg|prototype
      rule                 Year not_contains ?

      rule                 Category contains Versus
      rule                 CloneOf not_equals .*
   filter               "Maze Games"
      exception            Name equals pacman

      sort_by              PlayedCount
      reverse_order        true
      rule                 PlayedCount not_equals 0

5. run RetroArch games in full screen (16:9)
   a. run any game using the MAME 2003 emulator
   b. press "F1" on the keyboard
   c. Settings-->Video-->Aspect Ration Index = 16:9

Is it wrong to be lazy and just want an image posted with everything but the roms?

It's not wrong but it is very optimistic. Floobs latest image includes all the MAME artwork which is close. I really don't see how someone could provide an image with all the artwork for other systems but without the roms since everyone's roms will be named differently. MAME is the only system that the roms will always have consistent names for everyone.

@efraimsangil & weller96c - Read Finheads post just above. As he mentions, you can simply place one file per system in the marquee folder of each system to do this (the file name needs to match your emulator name). There is no need for many files or the files to match the game names. You're doing way more work then what is required to get that effect.

You can also use the wheel art for the marquee and place the game system logo on the side of the arcade. To do this just put the system logo file in /home/pi/.attract/layouts/robospin(or robospinbeta)/slogos/ folder and make sure its file name matches your emulators name. Below is an example of this.

I'll also mention that you could have better romlist information on the systems you added which would include the manufacture logo, genre logo, year and cleaner looking game name (like you see above) if you wanted. This can be accomplished by making sure your connected to the internet when generating the romlist and have the correct entries in your emulator.cfg file such as:

system               Nintendo 64
info_source          thegamesdb.net

system               Sega 32X
info_source          thegamesdb.net

Having the genre data in your romlists will also allow you to build filters based on genre.

In Attract-Mode press the "Tab" key to bring up the "Configure" menu. Next select "Emulators" and then select the system you want to add and then click on "Generate Collection/Rom List". Once this list is built you should see the system in Attract-Mode. No systems will be shown until you create the Rom List in Attract-Mode.

Hi All.

Can anyone help me set up some emulators that aren't already pre configured in Floobs image.

I'm trying to add the following and when performing "add emulator" from the menu I'm stuck where to input the emulator location under Command Arguments.
The emulators I'm trying to add are
N64
Atari 7800
Atari Jaguar
Sega 32x

If anyone can advise the path locations that the emulators would be from retropie for me to add these emulators i'd be massively grateful

If you are using the latest version of Floob's image these are the paths (they will be different on earlier versions).

If you want to use HyperSpin themes you need them to be in the .attract/layout/Media folder to work. This makes using a USB drive more challenging but not impossible. I don't use a USB drive but if you did you would need to either move your entire build (minus the boot partition) to the USB stick or use symbolic links so the folders look like they are on the SD Card.

A couple other thoughts...
- you can fit a ton of stuff on a 32 GB SD card (including artwork & vids)
- a 64 GB card will give you the space if you want a full mame set or a lot of PS1 or Dreamcast games (including artwork & vids)
- you might consider keeping your artwork on the SD card and move your larger roms (or maybe all roms) to a NAS or another PC that is always on and access them over the network

My personal HyperSpin build doesn't use any game specific themes or artwork directly from HyperSpin. I only use the "Default.zip" themes and the Wheel artwork from HyperSpin (and the same for the HyperSpin "Main Menu"). This keeps the size much smaller and a lot of the per game themes don't display well in AM at this point. All the other folders I populate with the media I download from EmuMovies using their tool so the names all match. Some of my HyperSpin videos were too hi-res for AM. The "Video_MP4" videos from EmuMovies seem fine (this might be fixed in the non-x version of AM on Pi, I haven't tried) but either way will also take up less space.

EmuMovies Downloads-->My folder structure under /layouts/Media/<system>/
Advert-->Flyer
Marquee-->Marquee (MAME/FBA)
Banner-->Marquee (anything not MAME/FBA)
Box-->Box

X:\HyperSpin\Media\<system>\-->My folder structure under /layouts/Media/<system>/

@Omamez - You can download my configuration at ftp://www.progets.com/attract.7z. I made a ReadMe.txt to explain how/why things are setup. There is also a short, poorly made video to see what it looks like at ftp://www.progets.com/Pi.mp4.

@senkun - I've gotten this to work now but thanks for asking. My issues were with the dependencies on the new SFML-pi page, they weren't enough. I also had SFML fail only because of the readme.txt missing so I copied readme.md to readme.txt.

After I got it working I'm not sure if I'll use the non-x version. In x mode, I don't see any text between the game launch and game quit. In non-x mode I see the background text, though it's only for a second. Maybe there's a way to hide it in non-x mode.

I was also hoping that the non-x mode would help me launch Kodi from a HyperSpin theme by using the runcommand. It hasn't so far. I can launch and run it from either mode but I can hear the AM theme playing in the background and also can't properly quit back to AM.

The biggest benefit to non-x mode would be advmame (and maybe some other non-retroarch emulators) and the runcommand options. I don't really care about either of those. I use the command line to build mixed emulator/system lists (ex. attract --import-romlist mame-fba.txt --import-romlist mame-2003.txt --import-romlist mame-2010.txt --output mame-mixed.txt) so the runcommand really is more of an annoyance. I have AM set to boot and shutdown with no GUI option to go to RetroPie. The only time you ever see any text or command line from boot to play to shutdown is when you leave AM and it shuts down for a second or two. It's very clean and non-computer looking.

Do I even dare to ask if you would share your build?  ;D

I don't have a sharable image. My build isn't user friendly and I can't distribute roms or artwork from others. If you have access to the HyperSpin and EmuMovie resources I can share my configuration files and/or explain anything I've done.

Floob's image is made to be flexible for everyone to use. It's really the best place to start if you don't want to build from scratch.
