I think the inverse method is better.
Come up with a list of ROMs that you want to delete. There were to many files from using a merged set that were needed for roms that weren't carried over using this method.

Thanks for that.  ;)

I've gone down a rabbit hole. In short I created a attractmode ROM list then used excel to get rid of the junk by using filters. I then saved the list of roms and only copied certain roms based on category/displaycount/status to my HDD. I verified/fixed the roms to work with my version of MAME and here I am.

I've saved 45GB worth of space. Now looking back I'm thinking if I should have just chewed up the HDD space and created global filters for MAME.  :-X

My madness is documented below.

Hi,
Thanks for the input. I understand the process of using filters within the AM UI. The question is specifically around using the --filters command line argument. I will be using additional CLI arguments such as exceptions and scraping as well once I get this working.

Why, it is for automating a few tasks. Understand something similar can be created with filters. I typically just edit attract.cfg rather than using the UI. It is a lot faster for me that way.

General / attract-console --filter help

Hi,
Can someone please let me know the syntax used to create rules on the CLI using attract-console --filter?

I've tried a few variations without any luck.
Can you use multiple --filter commands?

Code: [Select]
  -F, --filter <rule>
Apply the specified filter rule when creating romlist

Example..
Code: [Select]
attract-console --build-romlist mame --full --filter Category equals Fighter / Versus --output Figters.txt

I had an issue with any version after attract-v2.4.0-win64 AttactMode would not switch to GroovyMAME correctly.

I downloaded and tested attract-v2.5.1-1-win64b and it works fine.

Thankyou Raygun.

I just got some time to test every version from the latest to the last working version of AttractMode. attract-v2.4.0-win64 works fine with anything after that not working.

Could this change have anything to do with it?

Any ideas of what I can do?

General / Attract Mode + GroovyMAME - Not Switching to GroovyMAME
« on: December 06, 2018, 11:03:33 PM »
After running an outdated version of AttractMode and MAME romset I decided to upgrade with the free time I have over the festive season.

I'm running into an issue which appears that AttraceMode is not switching over correctly to GroovyMAME. AttractMode launces the ROM as you can hear the ROM's sound playing away in the background and I can insert credits and use my controls. Yes, I can load the ROM through the mame64 binary without an issue.

The last version I was using was attract-v2.3.0-win64. Has something changed with the latest version (attract-v2.5.1-win64) that I need to do differently?

I'm running Windows 7.

I read another post about this topic and the user only resolved it by going to an older version.

Thanks.

General / Re: Possible variables in emulator.cfg? Want to add [date]
« on: August 28, 2016, 03:16:53 PM »
In the meantime I have just written a batch script that solves my problem however,  I'm still interested in knowing what variables can be passed in the emulators.cfg file.

General / Possible variables in emulator.cfg? Want to add [date]
« on: August 27, 2016, 03:53:35 PM »
There are some MAME competitions that require you to record your MAME game play. I would like to add a [date]variable to emulators.cfg.

Does someone have a list of variables that can be added into the emulator.cfg file? Is it possible to have a [date] variable?

For example I currently have
Code: [Select]
args      [name] -rec [name]
As you can tell every time I play a game again the .inp file will be overwritten.

I thought I could use a batch script however, I don't know how to pass [name] to the batch script.

Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.

General / Re: Emulator Preference in multigame lists
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:09:23 PM »
Is that possible? If you look how attractmode has been designed, your choice of games in your display is dependent upon the list of games in your romlist.txt file. Based on this your option is to remove the duplicate game name.

Emulators / Re: Hiding DEMUL windows until game starts

A workaround may be to launch demul with rocketlauncher. I will be testing this in the near future.
