General / Re: Observation regarding snap formats on raspberry pi

Can the snaps from emumovies be had in packs? I would hate to have to download all that one by one... it would be nice to drop the files in their folders and not have to run all of them through a converter. Snaps have been the Bain of my exsistance here lately as I try and get all my displays in order.

General / Observation regarding snap formats on raspberry pi
« on: September 20, 2016, 08:09:31 PM »
I am running a raspberry pi 3 with the latest image. I have 4 systems configured. Master system, Genesis, Super Nintendo and Nintendo. I plan on continuing and seeing how many this thing will run reliably. Anyway, my observation this far concerning video snaps is this: .flv format is better than MP4. I've loaded 1200 or so video snaps to the nes system in MP4 format. Attract mode would choke on playing them every time. I've converted them to .flv and have not had any issue with playback. It does stutter frame rates sometimes... is anyone over clocking?

Where should I start with this build? I will spin up xubuntu if you think that is the best base for this project. Time to give this cab a fresh brain!

Wow thanks for the reply. I'm sorry I did not come back sooner. I kind of threw my hands up on it and went back to the rpi version. As I get more systems going I realize that I'm goingg to have to put this set up on more powerful hardware.  Especially for emulating mame and wii and dreamcast lol. I am going back to ubuntu I believe. I am thinking of doing this on top of emuOS since ES is already installed and configured much like retropie. Since you have some knowledge on the subject,  what is your opinion of doing this build on top of emuOS? Where do I turn on mail notifications for replies from this forum? Lol very cool to see the community has some active members. I really love the look and feel of this front end.

I have installed the repository with:
Sudo add-apt-repository papa:daveg/attract
Sudo apt-get update
Apt-get install attract

I then try and run attract mode:
/usr/games/attract

I get an error saying it can't find the attract.cfg file and it fails to start X11 display. Any help would be much appreciated.

So the next best thing would be to use goin and Python to control the LEDs... Looks like I've got my work cut out for me. I want to have only the buttons used for the specific emulator glow when in use. I haven't seen anyone do this with rpi..

I am interested in using led Blinky on rpi 3 with attract mode. Has anyone done this or know where to start? I did a search and turned up nothing. Thank you for your help.
