Progets, is right about the path. All the user files for attract are located here > /home/pi/.attract. . . Take a look at WinSCP though, it will make your life a lot easier. You can copy your layout files from your windows host machine to the pi with it as well.

Have you tried using WinSCP for managing your Pi yet?. You can do anything you want remotely out of the box. Anything you can do in front of the terminal you can do remotely using this app. You can drop to terminal, copy files, rename, delete, change rights, anything really. I highly recommend it, and its more secure than just having open shares.

Thanks man. So far, I've tested it on the pi3 and win10 without issue. I also tested most of the user settings but as you know there's always something that can break. Scaling works great, even at 240p which is nice if you have a CRT.

I keep going back to a minimalist approach.

Just uploaded robospin_v4 for anyone that is interested. A lot of new features and improvements for the better.

Download here > https://app.box.com/s/hcouvf2t8bpmgcinbnhosf7pwq63qbs7

New features:

There's a new option called blur that loads background console art automatically when switching to a different emulator. You can add your own console art by placing it in the new BG folder, just make sure the art matches your emulator names. I added some default BG art for some of the more common consoles using a gaussain blur effect of 25% to give things a whimsical look and feel.  ;D

Added an overlay option for BG, you can now choose a generic mask, aperture or scan-line effect.

Fixes and improvements as followed:

Fixed a scaling issue that broke on odroid. Needed a fixed layout size to scale on instead of just fill.

Adjusted surface skew and pinch settings for snap. Less noticeable when scaling from 640 to 1080p now.

Added a new frame for text and moved to the bottom of display like the original robospin. Looks better, and makes more room for listbox if enabled.

Tweaked wheel settings to display less wheel art to give better spacing between art.

Moved filter info to cab below snap to minimize clutter.

Some other tweaks as well.

Tested scaling at 640x480, 800x600, 1280x1024, and 1920x1080 resolutions.

There I go with my assumptions again.  :)

I still you using floobs former image that I updated manually. Still going strong.

Anyway, I have here version 4 of robospin If someone is willing to take it for a test drive before I release it. There is a lot of changes and tweaks and I think it looks and functions much better with all the improvements. There's an option now called blur that loads BG console art automatically when switching to a different emulator. You can add your own console art by placing it in the new BG folder, just make sure the art matches your emulator names. I added some default bg art for some of the common consoles using a gaussain blur effect of 25% to give things a whimsical feel. Yes, I said that.  ;D

If someone can give me the emulator names from floob's newest image, I can match the names in the bg folder.

Also, instead of just having just a scan-line effect, I also added a generic mask and aperture overlay for even more options.

And, some fixes as mentioned in another thread.

Box art is supported by Robospin and I'm sure the same goes for Nevato. All you have to do is edit your AM emulator config in question and point the flyer path to box art media instead of flyer media.

FYI, I'm going to release robospin.v4 tomorrow that has some new features, cosmetic changes, and some tweaks. Here are some of the highlights:

Fixed a scaling issue that broke on odroid.
Added new console backgrounds with a blur effect that get loaded when you switch to a different emulator.
Tweaked spin wheel to display less wheel art for better spacing and performance.
Changed the text frame and moved it to the bottom of the display like the original robospin, more room for listbox if enabled and looks better
Tweaked snap skew and pinch effects for better scaling, looks much better from 640 to 1080.
Adjusted flyer placement again, flyer is no longer rotated and is now full height and half width on right side of cabinet.
Some text enhancements.
Scanline effect for bg can be turned off now.
Some other minor changes.

I've got v4 dropping this week. Made some improvements to the wheel by displaying less wheel art to give better spacing. Added a darker frame for text and dropped it even to the bottom like the original version to give more space to listbox if enabled. If flyer is enabled for background it will now be at full height and  half width to right of cab to make the art more visible. And, some other tweaks.

XP and later versions have a setting called Data Execution Prevention (DEP) under system>advanced tab. Try turning it off or vice versa to see if that makes a difference.

1. Click Start.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Select System.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Performance region, select Settings.
6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens.
7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select.
8. Click Add.
9. The open dialog box will open. Browse and select your application.
10. Click Open
11. Click Apply
12. Click Ok
13. Reboot

The first version is recommended as it runs in frame buffer and supports advmame better. The second version runs in X which requires additional libraries and little more overhead. But, since you're already using floob's image you can probably still do both by just following optional 1.

A few steps are involved but it's pretty straight forward.

Step one...  I would update and upgrade raspbian.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Step two...

Compile AM, you can pretty much cut and paste the cmds from the wiki but make sure you read the additional notes.

Follow the wiki here -> https://github.com/mickelson/attract/wiki/Compiling-on-the-Raspberry-Pi-(Raspbian-Jessie)

Don't forget to do sudo ldconfig, inside joke here.

Step three... optional.

Upgrade retropie by running this cmd: sudo ./RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

I'm assuming you've already expanded your partition, if not expand it using sudo raspi-config before the next step.

1. Update the retropie setup script first.

     Select U.

2. Once the script is done, reboot

3. Once it reboots, run the setup script again

     sudo ./RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

4. Select 6, update retroPie binaries.

I've never owned a taito arcade cab but seems like a solid choice for a mutlicade especially if it's REV.01B. But, don't they use security dongles?

Yes, but you need to change the first 2 lines to something like 640x480 otherwise the skew bug will raise its ugly head with the videos. I'm actually testing this now with my pi connected to a 15k CRT. Except, now I'm just using a  j-pac as a pass thru instead of the GBS-8100. I didn't need the 8100, giving that the pi will output 640x240 by using group 1 mode 8 in the config.txt. And, its just a cleaner solution with a jamma or naomi cabinet.

local my_config = fe.get_config();
local flx = fe.layout.width=640;
local fly = fe.layout.height=480;
local flw = fe.layout.width;
local flh = fe.layout.height;

Correct! Though, there is a work around. Just copy and paste the robospin folder with a new name like robospin_nes etc and change the display layout to the new folder. This way you can have individual settings for your different displays using robospin.

There should be a clogos DIR under your robospin DIR. If not, there is a newer version here. -> https://app.box.com/s/9i198vvan9r05g5zbsxocnyk2dng4jh2.

Also, unzip at the root of layouts. If you unzip in a robospin folder it will create another robospin folder and the layout.nut won't be initialized by AM. Once, the new robospin_new folder has been created under layouts, you should be able to select the new robospin under your Display. Then its just a matter of changing the clogos images to match your emulators names. You can also add your own images following the same rule.

I'm still not quite sure how the default polling got changed unless it's a bug in the retropie binaries. But, it definitely causes an issue.
