General / screen saver not going to next video
« on: December 28, 2023, 04:15:39 PM »
I'm setting up a cabinet and noticed the screen saver doesnt continue to the next video after the first one it plays. It just sits there on the last frame of the video and doesnt ever transition to the next. Ive let it sit for a few minutes to see if it ever does but no cigar. It doesnt freeze since i can press a button and it returns to the front end fine so i'm not sure what could be happening. This is version 2.7 on windows 11 but its the same video files and configuration ive used on previous builds. Anyone have a clue? I searched for similar issues but couldnt find any

Scripting / Re: Static picture with LCD marquee & multimon

The multimon plugin seems to work fine for me without issue but im needing a little more versatility i suppose. Anyone know if there are any better alternative plugins to multimon?

Scripting / Static picture with LCD marquee & multimon
« on: January 01, 2023, 07:58:24 PM »
Just began to mess with the MultiMon plugin and a second monitor i had lying around. Im about to build a new 4 player arcade cab and thought maybe i would go LCD marquee this time around, but i'm not sure if i can do what i want. I would like to be able to display a static picture on the marquee, and then once a game is launched it transitions to the games marquee, and then back to the original picture when the game is exited. Is this possible? Thanks

Scripting / Display with all collections/categories?
« on: November 24, 2021, 08:48:33 AM »
I was looking at creating a display with nothing but different categories/collections to organize games (i.e. one for fighting games, one for shmups, etc) like how the guy in this video has his setup with all his collections but i cant seem to find any info except how to create a favorites list. Any info or links to tutorials anybody can provide? Thanks

You can try using a nb_mode_wait setting. It might help.

Yea ive tried messing around with that as well, but it seems to make it worse. I figured out that if you set the Exit Hotkey in AM it will actually exit the emulator for you even if the window isnt in focus and will return focus to AM so at least that option will give them the ability to exit and relaunch the game and hopefully not have it lose focus on startup provided no buttons are pressed in the ~1 second window of handoff. I was looking at trying to run an AHK script to check if the Retroarch window was running and if it is to make it the active window but ive never done any kind of scripting so i'm a little green in that aspect of it. Best solution i can think of.

So it seems to lose focus in the very short time in between the hand off from AM to the Retroarch window. If you press any keys during that time before the RA window is fully booted and in focus, it causes it to lose focus on the game. MAME does not have this problem though no matter how many keys i press in that same time between the AM to MAME hand off so i'm not sure if this is an AM issue or a Retroarch issue....

General / losing focus tips/tricks?

Are there any guidelines to follow to reduce or eliminate the possibility of AM losing focus either on itself when exiting a game, or on the game when it launches? I have AM as the shell startup executable instead of explorer.exe, so explorer is never running when AM is unless I start it manually, but sometimes when a game starts it wont be the focused window and wont respond until I Alt+Tab so i'm not sure what else it could be focused on. It happens with multiple emulators as well but mostly ones that use Retroarch. MAME seems to work great. Are there any settings in windows and or AM that i should apply to ensure that games or AM doesnt lose focus? Ive looked around on the forum but theres not any centralized information around this subject. I'm currently using AM 2.6. Thanks!  :D

@ snax087
yes, it's possible to set favourites, tags and filter a display (for example all games that contains Mario):

have a look at the controls:
press TAB key > Controls
Next filter, Previous Filter, Filters Menu, Add/Remove Favourite, Next Favourite and so on...
You can set here a button. And a simultane key combination too.

have a loot at the display settings:
press TAB key > Display > your_Display
there you can add different filter

for further information, please use board search. there exists different detailed threads.

Thanks for the reply. If you have any specific threads that you could point me to that would be able to help me better understand favorites and filters in AM i would much appreciate it. Ive never had to use them before and they seem to be a much more complex aspect of AM than just making lists  :-[ Ive searched around a bit for threads on both topics but it seems to be a bit scattered

I'm wondering if it is possible to create a display (possibly favorites?) but only pull it up with a separate key command instead of just going left and right with the joystick to access it like all the other displays i have? I want to put some specific games on a list that i dont want to be accessible except to people with the key command to pull up the list. Is this possible? Thanks  ;D
