Attract mode and mala layout problems

What kind of problems ? I've tried several layouts with no issues. There might be some limitations but nothing major.

Akafox - the first layout I tried didn't work well and after looking at it I figured out it was because it was using elements from one of the default mala layouts.

So you may want to look at the main layout file to see where its looking for bits and pieces.

Great idea akafox.  The support for Mala layouts is probably lacking in a couple ways, since I really just cooked it up after playing around with a couple of layouts that I wanted myself as well as the Mala layout editor.

So feedback about what works and what doesn't would be helpful.  If you want to hack around with how mala layouts get loaded yourself it is actually fairly simple to do... mala layouts get loaded by the attract-mode layout .nut file located at: loader/mala.nut  so you don't actually have to change anything in the frontend itself.
