Hey! add this to the script and let me know :p ... Man, it's a pain testing this on my monitor. Having to go into portrait mode, changing the resolution to lowest setting and mouse...

fe.layout.orient=RotateScreen.Right;
fe.layout.width=fe.layout.width/2;
local rot=(fe.layout.base_rotation+fe.layout.toggle_rotation)%4;
switch (rot) {
 case RotateScreen.Right:
 case RotateScreen.Left:
  break;
}

I swear I answered this last night. Did my post go poof? :( The code works as expected. I had to place it in the right place though. Still though it is only "half size" also it makes the bottom of the list box the bottom of the screen almost.

I know..making my snaps has made all sorts of problems I never thought of! lol

You were asking about your snap in comparison to the ones available on emumovie, so I uploaded one to let you be the judge. I do think the snap you made has a cleaner look to it.

I would put that rotation code right under the local config section. When, I tested it on my rig and changed my resolution to 600x800 in portrait mode everything filled the screen proportionality. So, I would like to know what is going on there. If you have a different resolution than that then you might try  0, 0, fe.layout.width, fe.layout.height or specify the right resolution. Any smaller than that though and the wheel might look too big. Curious about this one.

As for the vid snaps. Thanks that is exactly what I wanted to know! :D So I will work on them. I can make them faster than wheel art! :P I'm trying to compare video quality/crispness. Seems to me they are real close. I started making them at low quality to save space and I mean come on it's just a vid snap to show the game...until I wanted to use them for my screen saver..then I was like umm..no. lol I have a lot already and have many more to do. I will do all of the mame set I guess..(and/or mess) but I'll do the ones that work and that i have first (I stripped out all the mature and mahjong and stuff. As for clones..just copy the movie and rename it!) We'll see what people want i guess. Some games I can not stay alive for long enough to make it 30 secs! lol

Ok, I know one problem from the get go. My marquee setting in the emulator/mame.cfg is pointed to the wheel too, if that makes sense. I do this sometime because it doesn't really matter as long as you know what you want to turn on in the layout. For example, I might display cart art where the marquee would be etc, etc...  And, as long as your emulator/mame.cfg is pointed to the right DIR where your wheel art is everything should be copacetic. I am still not sure why your screen is like that, though - unless you have rotation set under the control input screen before launching the layout. I think once a key is mapped and pressed, it keeps the layout rotated until pressed again. But, I could be wrong on that point. Hope this helps...

It was like that before I added that code snip in there actually or before I tried to rotate it. The reason I say something about the wheel ect...is because if I change to the first one you made it works just fine art and all. So I'm guessing it is something with this layout.nut. For you though it works I'm sure...so I'm at a lost of why it doesn't at least TRY and work for me better. It has to be my end somewhere..but where? Anybody else having this problem? Or could somebody (or penguin) try this and see if they have the same problem please? )You are linux right omega?)

No, I'm on windows 7. And, I even have one cab running on vista with zero problems. I haven't used linux for years. When I did, it was either Slackware, red hat, or SuSE. Back then, it was a real accomplishment if you could get x11 to work right. Of course, red hat and SuSE changed all that. So, maybe a linux video driver issue but who knows. I do know linux is much easier now with everything compiled with it but I would probably still prefer compiling only the drivers I need for a fast and lean system. Then add packages as needed.

I tried them all. 1280X800..all the way down to 640X480. Same thing each time.

Yes omega man linux has come a long way...come back to the light side...*waves my hand* windows is not the OS you're looking for :P lol No Honestly I have heard good things about Win7 but vista left a bad taste in my mouth I have never shaken..from what i have read about windows 10..well I am scared to use it (that's for a different forum though).

Edit: I noticed that with the original layout.nut it was squashed "half way"..after I added your code to rotate it squashed it more! the particle effects work just fine even in the black area..so idk it's weird.

Ok got something..got it working correctly horizontally!...it was the code in the layout. Line 41 reads:

Code: [Select]
ExtendedObjects.add_image("bg", "bg.png", 0, 0, 600, 800);
should be:

Code: [Select]
ExtendedObjects.add_image("bg", "bg.png", 0, 0, 800, 600);

However when I add the "rotation code" it squashes again! so I'll comb it again.

Second edit: Ok I got it working had to put the rotation code before the layout size code seems like. I still have no wheel or marquee or even text for that matter still....

Strange, must be a setting in linux somewhere causing this or something I missed, I presume. The bg.png was created in 600x800 for vertical display. The wheel dimensions were tweaked for this size too. Anything other than this size will not look right. It might be able to scale up a bit, though the wheel setting in the conveyor section would need adjusting. For what it's worth, I tested this on a widescreen monitor but like I said, I changed my video resolution to 600x800 portrait mode for testing purposes. And, it fit the screen perfectly. The common denominator here is linux for both of you, so I could have missed something in the script that linux doesn't like but windows finds acceptable. Anyway, all my rigs right now have windows on them. If I get some time other than making layouts maybe I will duel boot one of them with linux for testing purposes, grrr... But, this is what I pay you linux experts for :p Anyway, don't beat me up too bad this is my first attempt at a vertical layout.

I got my kids all weekend so looking at the .but will be tough but I'll look.
Verticools works fine for me if that helps.
I can also update my 64 bit live . iso with attract mode 1.5 and make it available then you could just toss it on a USB a boot up to tool around.

I made some small changes to the script, can one of you guys test it for me. You might still have to rotate with control/input option. See attached for layout.nut

Nitro-

I was thinking about making a live cd myself. On the same topic, have you ever used FreeBSD? I used it for a while, years ago and liked it a lot. When I get the time, think I am going to try installing attract on BSD.
