As rand0m said, the PC Engine (Turbografx-16 in the USA) is one of the best consoles for shooters from the 8-16 bit era. One of my favourites and exclusive to the PC Engine is Air Zonk (jap.PC Denjin Punkic Cyborg). It has funny graphics and gameplay, and really good music.

Mind that the english version is slightly censored. It lacks some content considered inappropriate for the western/american market, namely poop bombs with sunglasses, and a milk gun that resembles a pair of breasts.  ;D See https://tcrf.net/Air_Zonk for the details.

It's similar, but not the same. Gradius has 6 slots, Parodius has 7, and the ship icon + the score line aren't there in Parodius.
edit: I wrote the above post before you edited yours. ;)

Not correct the first one is PARODIUS !!
What part of the picture makes you think that? I didn't find a screenshot of parodius' gameplay that has that exact status bar at the bottom, but the PC Engine version of Gradius does:

The first one should be Gradius, though I don't know which part (there are many).

Please tell us exactly step-by-step what you did to install libcurl and how you try to (re-)install Attract Mode.

Is your installation file called attract_2.5.1-0ubuntu1.bionic_amd64.deb? If not, what's its name? Where did you save it? (If we know that, we could tell you how to install it from the command line to get more messages about the installation.)

Thanks for the explanation and my best wishes for success in your endeavor.

Regardless, I love that this front end is multiplatform.

I second that wholeheartedly. In a multiplatform community, it (mostly) doesn't matter which system you happen to use. Instead, we all can just enjoy our common interest and benefit from everyone's contribution.

IMO - You should have limited the vote to one (primary) OS (like you started with). I, and many others, have AM on several OSes but I (and most likely others) always play games on one OS.

I respectfully beg to differ, since I play retro games on both my PC with Kubuntu and my Raspberry Pi with Retropie roughly to the same extent. The Pi is the heart of my DIY arcade cabinet, and the PC is for games that are not suited for either the Pi or the cabinet. And I often enough hear from people with similar setups to find a multi-vote better than forcing us to choose a main system we don't actually have.

Thanks very much for the explanation and the editing, Oomek.  :)

Raspbian is a Linux variant, so listing it next to "Linux" may be a bit confusing. Maybe "Raspbian Linux" and "other Linux" would've been better. Or "Linux for ARM (e.g. Raspbian)" and "Linux for x86/x64", since the cpu architecture may be more important for debugging purposes than the Linux variant.

Anyway, I'm using AM on Linux, specifically Kubuntu 14.04 + 18.04 and Raspbian-based Retropie 4.4.

From the terminal:
Code: [Select]
$ sudo nano /etc/rc.local
Note the commands to exit and such at the bottom of the terminal window. control + q will ask if you want to save the buffer to file.
Isn't that control+x? It is at least on my Retropie 4.4 (based on Debian Stretch). Control + x just says "XON ignored, mumble mumble".

You could of said that in a better way.
Why?  There was nothing malicious in his comment.  He didn't call you blind nor did he say you were an idiot or anything of the sort.   Lol relax man.
Well, I can understand how it can be seen as taunting if your question is met with the counterquestion if it was a trick question, even if it wasn't meant that way.

People have different sensibilities. If we don't know the person we're talking to, we should choose our words carefully and wisely, especially on the net with people from many different nations and cultures. That doesn't mean that we have to weigh every single word, or that we can avoid every possible misunderstanding, but if we learn from the other that we hit a sore point, I think it's better to show understanding and clear up any misconceptions than to tell them they shouldn't feel the way they feel, just because (we think that) we wouldn't in their place.

Yeah, finding coordinates in nut files can be taxing if you're not experienced in Squirrel code, I know that first-hand. ,:)

Also, I might be missing something obvious, but I can't find the way to shift the LCD text upwards. No XY coordinates in the .nut file that I can see. Any help?

It's the second blip multiplier in in the fe.add_text functions in the "//LCD display text under cab screen" section (line 513 to 572 in the layout.nut). In this example, it is the value 6208. Try setting it to 6108 to move the text "PLAYED:" a little up. I had to do this myself to position it correctly on my 16:10 screen.

Code: [Select]
local lcdLeftText = fe.add_text( "PLAYED: " + "[PlayedCount]", blip*0.1536, blip*0.6208, blip*0.48, blip*0.04 );

The same applies to all similar lines for [FilterName], [Name], and so on in the LCD section.

Just my 2 cents but why are you even using the runcommand if you're not using ES (EmulationStation) or AM (Attract-Mode)?

Short answer: Because I told him to. ;) But I didn't have any particular reason for that besides familarity on my side, and because ES provides an easy way to configure the controls once for most RetroPi emulators (mainly all RA cores).

BUT that said, there's no real reason to not just start RA directly.

Quote
I'll also mention that by default, RA disables saving changes to its config file. To change this you need to modify RA either manually through the retroarch.cfg file or using the RA GUI.

I don't like this option very much, since it's easy to save messed-up configurations after playing around with the options. I use the manual saving function of the RA menu instead, to protect me from my own daftness.

Just my 2 cents in addition to yours. :)
