The idea you had with Vectrex in it seemed like a pretty cool idea  :D And if you could have a main menu (systems) with it, that would be very nice too!

It's definitely a nice start for a "main" menu, especially since there are none available at the moment. Also, I'm sure this one will be quite popular since there are probably many current and former maximus arcade users out there, looking to try a new frontend like attractmode :)

- Added customized layouts for the displays menu/system selection menu
- Added ability to set image origin in scripts (for centre rotations etc)
- [rpi] Issue #266 - Fix for keypresses being cached w/ sfml-pi build
- Added layout options configuration for 'Displays Menu' layout
- Fixed "Toggle Layout" when used on the displays menu layout

What this means... a real Displays Menu! So long to issues with a keyboard hooked up!

Great work!

Fantastic news! Looking forward to seeing the real displays menu being implemented :)

I have made a listbox version for a friend. In case anyone want it.

This is a pretty neat theme! I like its simplicity :) But I made some changes to the flyer part of the layout and whenever there's missing artwork, I get this gray box on the bottom right of the screen. Any idea on how I can remove that?

Never mind! I figured it out. Just needed to remove the "flyer.png" file from the layout directory :)

« on: October 16, 2016, 10:29:02 PM »
Working prototype is ready.
You can see the video on FB

See the bonus feature at the end of the video - you can change the colour of a whole theme - via layout settings.
This way you can pick you favourite colour - or assign particular colour to emulator. Like - red for MVS NEO GEO

It's still a minimal front-end theme - using just a text and a single snapshot (or gameplay video). For the people that don't have all that artwork and don't want to hunt it down (or don't care).

Very nice! It's clean and simple   ;D

I need a little bit of help. How can I make a main menu theme and a short cut so I can accesses it everytime.

That would be the million dollar question :) A Main menu theme doesn't really seem to be an option with attractmode at this point, although there is a bit of a work-around to make a quick and simple main "menu"

hi fellas, here's my layout file, it's not finished because i haven't had time to get back to it... the code isn't the best, but it should give you a starter...

This is a good start but there really isn't much we can do with only the layout file and no artwork, with several .png files being mentioned throughout the code given

The display menu to me feels like the biggest downfall of this great frontend. I know it supports theming but i see few theme creaters actually altering it. I also understand that hyperspin themes can somewhat work and can also be used for a console selection leading then into game selection. So i'm curious if a theme either hyperspin or attractmode could be created/ used simply to replace the display menu and instead of launching roms it would launch the appropriate display not sure how you would then navigate back to the console(display menu) theme.

I agree, and I'm sure that some would beg to differ on my opinion but attractmode's only weak point is the lack of a display/systems menu. Of course I know that it exists, but it just isn't very clear or "solid" since it's only an option and requires some extra code by theme makers to implement it. I honestly believe that if attractmode has a main menu with a choice of displays/systems, it would absolutely become one of the top frontends and would leave hyperspin in the dust :)

Thank you very much for sharing, and always making great themes! What would be nice is if you could replace the arcade controller (in the center) with different systems/consoles, based on the one which is chosen. For example, if the user wants to play Turbo Grafx games, then the arcade controller would be replaced with a Turbo Grafx console (image). I tried to do this with the layout.nut file in this theme but failed  ;D

Sure! But it's not really anything special in the code and is more of a photoshop 'trick'. I learned this idea a few years ago while making a theme for hyperspin. What I did is, copied the screen of the tv, pasted it to a new file, and finally used photoshop's "magic eraser tool" to remove the screen from the tv. Then, in the code, I programmed it to where the tvscreen.png will be placed behind the video (as a layer). Here's the code and media used in my version of OlRoom :)

Thank you very much for sharing! I'm working on a similar theme with a text-based menu, for people like myself who prefer not to use the 'wheels' based-menu. It's coming along well so far but needs some better artwork like the one you provided here :)

Here's what I came up with. It's a somewhat simpler version of your original theme with some elements changed, the most obvious one being the wheels-menu was changed to a text-menu, mostly because I don't like searching for 'matching' wheel images especially for the less popular systems :) Also, I found a way to fill up the tv screen, and now use fades for the box art and videos. Still work a progress but thank you again for the help and inspiration!  :D
