General / Re: Launching Street Fighter V in Attract Mode help
« on: March 16, 2017, 02:01:04 PM »
It sounds like whatever you're running in AM loads the game as another process, then exits.

I don't have SFV so it's hard to be more specific, but it would be helpful if you shared the command line you're running.   Also if you acquired the game through Steam, there is a "minimum runtime" option that's supposed to be helpful for running Steam games.

I tried setting the wait time and sometimes this fixes the issue sometimes it does not.  Its as if the program acts different everytime I start the game.

Here is my setup for PC games.  Note every other game works fine.  If there was a way to force focus on SFV that would solve this issue.

General / Launching Street Fighter V in Attract Mode help
« on: March 14, 2017, 10:04:20 PM »
Every PC game I have run with Attract Mode works great but whenever I launch Street Fighter V with Attract Mode my 360 controller still controls Attract Mode and SFV at the same time causing SFV to get pushed in the background and Attract Mode to either load another game or jump back in front of SFV.  Its really pretty awkward and I dont know if there is a way around this with a special command argument or something.

Thanks in advance

Themes / Re: Visual editor for layout.nut?

Aren't your vertical game snaps already vertical aspect resolutions? If you set preserve_aspect_ratio to true, you could run horizontal and vertical snaps in the same area and it would fit in there.

A visual editor is something i've worked on from time to time, but it will probably be awhile before I can make it happen.

Quick tip for code editing though:

Code: [Select]
function reload(str) { if ( str == "custom2" ) fe.signal("reload") }
fe.add_signal_handler(this, "reload")

This allows you to reload your layout with a hotkey, so you can make a change in code and reload it. This is handy to adjust your object positions, or do various testing. Only thing to keep in mind here is if your layout generates an error, it may not be able to reload without shutting down and restarting.

I already set preserve aspect ratio to true thats why you see the above video at the correct aspect ratio but its scaled down to fit within the display area.  I want a purely vertical layout that keeps the physical snap size the same without scaling it to the 4:3 horizontal layout like shown above.

Here is a shopped version of what Im saying.

Always always always use "Nearest Neighbor" when scaling game sprites up..  My eyes bleed when people dont.

Looks clean I like.  I find lots of themes to be kinda sloppy graphic design wise.

Themes / Visual editor for layout.nut?
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:08:15 PM »
Is it possible to edit a layout theme with a program much like one would edit a web page with Wordpress or Dreamweaver?  I know this is probably a stupid question but I find it very tricky to figure out how to edit this layout file without visually seeing changes made in real time.

I'm currently trying to make a wheel layout for Cave games and since they are all vertical I want the regular snap screen to be rotated vertically to display the videos that way.  The way I have it now it just puts black bars on the left and the right of the snap display and runs the snap vertically.  Which looks sorta bootleg to be honest.  In the arcade you would physically rotate the screen 90 degrees.  So your display size stays the same.  If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

I'm currently working with a modified Robospin Layout.

Here is what I have come up with thus far for this layout.

General / Kodi tied to Attract Mode install on Retropie?
« on: January 06, 2017, 08:05:39 PM »
I just uninstalled Kodi from my Retropie build and it somehow reset my menu setup in Attract Mode.  It didnt physically delete anything aside from my layout/displays configuration.  So I have to go in and manually add back in each wheel display and corresponding wheel theme for every system.  The same thing also happens when I update Attract Mode from the Retropie menu.  Its quite frustrating to have to do this everytime does anyone know a way around this?  I doubt I will get replies to this as I see Raspberry Pi support on this forum is sparse at best.  Perhaps I will have more luck with this on the retropie forums.

Thanks

General / Re: Runcommand box not showing in AM but shows in ES?

same thing here.

Retropie updated yesterday
AM updated yesterday (via console - not experimental package installed)

Runcommand menu works fine in ES but not shown in AM.

New launching images (now loading) works fine in ES but not shown in AM.

it doesn't´t matter if used art or not; always works in ES.

I try with fill and full screen but same issue.

regards

Yeah I updated Rertopie last night and now when loading anything in Attract Mode I get a weird freeze until the rom or application starts running with a permanent freeze if I try to load the launch menu.  Also when exiting a rom the screen flashes to the command line before loading back into Attract Mode.  Also when trying to enter RertroPie Setup from Attract Mode everything locks up.  Its sad to me cause I had my build running flawlessly til I updated RetroPie.

Note : Fullscreen in Attract Mode does not fix the issue.  Also note that when I ctrl+alt+delete the frozen Attract Mode screen disappears for a few seconds revealing what was in fact running in the background.  So this seems to be an error on Attract Modes end and not Retropie.  Emulation Station works flawlessly.

Themes / Re: Actual wheel image pixel dimensions for Robospin?

So the size they want to be on a 1080p display is 537 x 181.  Seems like a pretty arbitrary dimension.

Just downloaded the wheel.png image from inside the Robospin layout folder and the dimensions are 300px wide by 100px tall.  Im gonna run a test to see if that prevents any weird stretching.  Its my understanding that some of these themes have been designed with a 4:3 screen in mind.  My time with Hyperspin has taught me there is a general divide in the artwork community about what aspect ratio one should use.

Themes / Actual wheel image pixel dimensions for Robospin?
« on: December 11, 2016, 11:13:39 PM »
I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out the exact pixel dimensions my wheel images have to be.  If its off Attractmode does some awkward stretching.  It drives me crazy that many people dont seem to care about images being stretched more in one dimension than another but as a graphic designer it hurts my head.

Thanks

General / Re: Video snaps play for a few seconds then stop. RPI2
« on: December 11, 2016, 06:11:22 PM »
i see this happening sometimes also i have a Pi3 it might be too much for the pi to handle or AM needs more optimization, if its optimization then that will come with time and we will just have to wait. its not that bad on the pi 3 though so i can live with it. have you tried over clocking the cpu a bit (pi isnt really that much of an over clocker but a little bit might help )

Yeah its weird cause it happens almost random.  I notice some of my longer videos play fine while others dont.  Seems regardless of file size.  I edited a video with Adobe Premiere and replaced it on the pi and that seemed to help.  It almost feels like a codec/ram limitation more than a cpu limitation.  Yeah with all that said my RPi 3 has far less issues with the videos.  So Im guessing its this Pi thats holding me back.  I wonder if it would be possible to use animated gifs for the snaps?  That would solve some issues with memory and cpu?  Gifs can look pretty good and possibly better than these low quality MP4 videos.  So rather than a video of the game just have the gif playthough a few static images of various games for said system.

General / Video snaps play for a few seconds then stop. RPI2
« on: December 11, 2016, 05:07:48 PM »
I'm running into an issue with the video snaps in Attract Mode only playing for a few seconds then freezing.  The audio keeps playing but video stops.  Is this a possible memory issue or perhaps a codec problem?  Is there a video size limit?  I downloaded some lower res videos intended for Hyperspin.  They are pretty crap quality already.  Perhaps they are too long?  Also I noted the static video is pausing then resuming.  Sometimes when the video halts the screen turns grey as well.

Model is : RPI 2 model B 1gb memory.
