Emulators / Re: Help getting Daphne to work with an LED Marquee
« on: January 14, 2022, 08:46:25 PM »
Note that daphne is tricky to get working correctly...then tricky to get working from attract mode correctly...

you are able to get a game working from the daphne gui correct?

The default config did work from AM..but i had to tweak it to make it the games work correctly...comes down the the bank (dip?) switches which the gui will set correctly for you. Umm as for Daphne using the marquee I am not sure...

Also it would help to know the LCD marquee in question (a pixelcade?)

General / Re: MAME merged sets and CATVER.INI

While mark is correct on all counts

If you want to do a 'clean' set you will need a rom manager like clrmamepro I make my roms as non-merged and then create my list and filter it using a spreadsheet pick the roms I want and then build a script to delete the rest. it is overkill and take some work.and some learning..but with hard drives being so much larger these days it may not matter  ::) :P

However you may want to remember that most people do not remember "Puckman" but they do remember "Pac-Man" (i.e. puckman is the parent and is needed to run pacman...this goes for galaga3 and some others..

Also there are roms in a mame set are are marked as not working in mame..no need to have them take up space on the drive either...but like I said above  ;)

mame dats for clrmamepro here..youtube video to use clrmame pro here

fun fact: A full working arcade set of roms and chds can fit on a 40..(50?) gig hard drive :P

General / Re: Can I make certain URL to open with attractmode?

Mark thanks for your input you can make it that simple as I did that nine months ago. However noone is wrong here..unless they post something malicious to hurt, destroy, or steal stuff.

We all have different ways of doing things...there is not one correct answer..some may like a thorough way of doing it or they may just want a quick way of doing things. We all have our talents here.

The forum is here to help others and they get many replies and answers and the person chooses what is best for them..simple as that.

Also please remember not everyone's native language here is English...

General / Re: Laggy video, any suggestions?
« on: January 14, 2022, 07:44:34 PM »
it could be that you are being throttled due to heat from the cpu being hit that hard...although you did say you have a gpu installed if AM takes advantage of that I have no idea...What is the resolution of your videos? kinda difficult to run 1080p (or whatever) videos at four eight or sixteen at a time...

and do they need to be hi-rez for a small preview screen? After all most of these games didn't even run higher than 800x600 Although for the video screensaver maybe I would understand you want them to look good..but you could lower the monitor resolution as well so they don't looked stretched and stuff *shrugs*

try that and see if that helps...

General / Re: This game won't generate data + scrap
« on: December 21, 2021, 07:39:51 PM »
Attract Mode can not fail here..it is not Attract Mode's fault at all..though I agree with you they should change it in the games db...

but that is not going to happen....

Problem with that is you have way to many system set-ups and OSes out there...along with MANY other factors. I understand your frustration...but it just can not be done an "easy way". That is why there is a way to do it manually...like they say, "if you want something done right..do it yourself"

But just to note with emulation station you can have it find the game correctly in the games db...as you can edit the information that the scraper is matching against. Thus you can look for 'Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers' - fail then look for 'Rescue Rangers' - success. that might be a nice feature to have in Attract Mode (I means something "in your face" to show that that can be done...just a thought"

Scrapers can not be 100% accurate or you would not find anything! Most of these scrapers are run by volunteers..they have lives and other things to do..so that being the case they allow individuals to upload information. That information can be whatever the up loader wants it to say..and more often then not it will not be what you have..that is just the how the hen house is built.

Build your list by paw...err hand if you need to. Attract Mode is way easier to edit then emulation station..it gives you much more control and customization. Once your list is "perfect and to your liking" then it is small and easily backed up.

I am not standing up for attract mode or emulation station or any database site..all I am saying is before you say something as scraping a database of thousands of games and getting 80% back correctly..and consider it a miracle that it even worked..bedside the fact that it cut your workload down and do not have to start from zero...

General / Re: Help with exit hotkey on nestopia and snes9x on old hardware
« on: November 11, 2021, 09:44:23 PM »
not sure about nestopia...have you tried FCEUX for nes and see if that works?
as far as I can see there is no way to change the exit key naturally...

but seeing as how you are on a old 32 bit XP machine

you can try and old program wrapper called closemul if you really want to use nestopia

this will work for snes9x as well

You will be hard pressed to make AM run smooth on that board with so little ram just so you know.

General / Re: Mame games list question
« on: October 16, 2021, 07:48:46 AM »
@clockman You CAN use a list xml for retroarch...well sort of... Find a version of mame on the main mame site here that matches the version of the retroarch core you are using. (That can be found here) then use that version of mame for your executable. It will use that versions xml list..which will math the version of the mame core you are using.

Now this may not be one hundred percent mind you because say the mame 2003 plus core is modified and many games added to it that were not in the regular 2003 bulid of mame.

Also note that this will only work in Windows (or linux via wine).

If you really want to be picky and micromanage your lists, make a copy of your lists and open them in a plain text editor (i.e. notepad in windows or nano in linux) or rename them from list.txt to list.csv and open them in a spreadsheet program to really tweak them! Just make sure you save them as plain test csv format files NOT anything else or you will destroy your lists! (That's why you made a back up first like I said right!?) Then rename the list.csv file back to list.txt and make sure they are on your attract romlist folder so that AM can see them!

General / Re: POLL: What system are you running Attract Mode on?
« on: October 16, 2021, 07:27:28 AM »
PopOS is linux and  ubuntu based so I would think that the ubuntu compile instructions here will do that for you..and it has a list of needed dependencies. One that is missing is libcurl, but it is not needed unless you plan to scrape artwork and such.

General / Re: Need a guide to compile AM for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
« on: October 16, 2021, 07:17:18 AM »
@Strider_Hiryu

you can try the actually ubuntu compile instructions too. Just copy the line there to grab the needed dependencies...however one I think that is missing is libcurl, you will need that if you plan to scrape artwork and stuff! (you'll need libcurl-dev packages too!)

I think it should work for an odroid.

Hope that helps :3

Glad I am not the only crazy animal out there that does all that  :P

*gives you a high 4!* (hey I am a fox no thumbs you know!)

your format is all wrong by the way..I'll attach one that should be fixed.

and yes I AM crazy. I have made a caver.ini for consoles as well and they work just fine..well they did..I deleted them *facepaw* but yeah a catver a nplayers.ini for consoles.

Why?

1. because I can make my list EXACTLY how i want/need it
2. I dont have to be on-line and wait to scrape
3. it's WAY faster
4 Because I can!

let me know if it worked okay!  ;D  and yes LOVE opening lists in a spreadsheet..total custom list!

General / Re: No sound from .mp4 files in Attract Mode
« on: October 06, 2021, 09:36:28 AM »
How are you out putting the sound HDMI or 'headphones'

Does the sound work with every thing else? back ground sounds, game sounds work ect

The mp4 have sound and work correctly on other systems (other PCs)?

have you tried different themes and the sound doesn't work there as well?

Sound was working before but after the update it stopped? (I assume that but it is not clear exactly)

you updated the script..did you try you update attractmode as well? (I assume this is retropie you are talking about...)

(need info to help..)

rompath              $HOME/RetroPie/roms/vic20

try using a full path best thing to do open the folder you have you roms and then paste that path into your rompath for AM

Okay let me get this understood...

You have installed retropie on a Ubuntu 20.04 based 64 bit PC not a raspberry pi correct?

1. How did you install the emulator?
2. What is your default emulator?

(I'm assuming VICE as it is the default.)

RetroPie install on Ubuntu 20.04 x64 ( Vic-20 runs fine from RetroPie)

So it loads just fine...

try this instead:
Code: [Select]
# Generated by Attract-Mode v2.6.1
#
executable           /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ vic20
args                  "[romfilename]"

If i recall correctly that is what I had to do...do you have any other systems running on your setup through AM now?

also check /dev/shm/runcoomand.log and see if there are any errors reported.
