Ok, I'm back from hiatus... I've been working on some unified theme concepts to keep things organized. So, I'm now incorporating liquids particle module. Anyway, I have added some custom animations to the presets based on popular old school arcades and this is what I've come up with so far. I will post links to videos shortly. Feedback is appreciated.

I like this one.
But it needs Bit along with the discs.

*claps approvingly* those are nice omegman! Keep up the good work!
-
Added bit for TRON theme.
-
Very nice.
Now I want to do a from build.
-
My first attempt at creating a vertical themed layout. Defender themed with ship particle effect.
-
you have this layout for download
:)

Micheal-
Which one? I am in the process of redoing some of them so they can scale up from 1024x768 to 1080. And, the vertical one I need to make some tweaks before I upload it. Just haven't had time to finish it. But, I will upload whatever one you are interested in :p
-
I played with the background on your vertical layouts and found if I used gimp to upscale to my monitors 1024x1280 resolution plus changed the sizes in the layout to 1024x1280 the background fit perfectly.
But then it fubar'd the rest. ;D
After adjusting the video window position easily enough I then proceeded to aquire great respect for your work after attempting to reposition the wheel before raising my while flag.

I've figured out how to scale up my layouts with the spin wheel by using cools method. It took a little effort, but I have a good handle on it now. I was able to scale up my tron and supercade horizontal layouts from 1024x768 to 1080 without much noticeable difference. Though, the spin wheel looks a little better at the lower resolutions. I will work on the vertical next and should have it done by tomorrow. But, I will go ahead and upload my tron layout.nut now if you want to get an idea on how to do it. Theoretically you should be able to cut and paste the conveyor and other sections for the vertical layout. Once, you look at the layout you'll get a good idea of whats goings on. You might still have to tweak the coordinates with small increments since I only tested from 1024 and up.
-
Here is the complete tron layout folder if anyone is interested. It has the new script for scaling to desktop resolution.
-
wow already put in my attract mode
::) ;)

Here is the new improved version. The BG, marquee, and spin wheel should scale automatically now. I included a few unmodified BGs in the folder just incase you don't like the snap border at higher resolutions. It gets a bit elongated. And, of course you can modify the snap position to your liking. The adjustments should be much easier now. But, I would use 0.01 increments instead of 1.0. I appreciate the feedback.

Do we know if animated particles are usable?
Like animated. Gifs or. Pngs?
-
Nitro-
I don't think so unless someone hacks FFmpeg. There was a discussion about this in some of the older threads somewhere. Probably, why Raygun decided to include liquid8's module among other reasons.
-
New wheel art...
-
Same wheel art used with tron layout. Changed snap border color.

it looks great!
Marquee & conveyor is smoooooth.
especially on my rpi 1. :)
I need to work on some more backgrounds based on classic games and maybe some particles.
there are quite a few sprite sheets out there for classic games I could pick things from plus tons of backgrounds from other front ends I can adapt.

Thanks for the feedback...

What!? you got it working on a rasp pi 1!? oh you GOT to share that lol Emulationstation is great on the pi but a little difficult to get going..besides I have an extra SD card :)

So, what kind of hair pulling did it take to get attract working on the pi?

Will do.
Just need to clear all the roms off it and make lxde auto boot attract mode.
I tried using jwm but honestly dietpi distribution is so low resource it only saved a few mb.
Edit: stupid auto correct

Fox-
New wheel set for your layout.

There is a rpi thread in the general section where I rambled on with my testing. Lol
Then raygun got sfml working on the pi, added my tips then I just followed pi specific instructions to compile from source.
I had to tweak gpu split and some sfml stuff isn't available on the arm build but other than errors in the console with some layouts things seem to work.
Mame4all doesn't follow standard xml generation so I had to make my own list.
Only issue is sometimes the front end pauses while scrolling and I think it's because it's writing to the temp file.
My rpi is only 256 mb.
Lower res. Avi's work. Took a bit to find some with audio the pi could digest.
Overall I'm impressed.

Sounds like you had a fun time:P Now, I know who to bug when I get my pi - whenever that may be.

Buy the RPI-2.
no reason to buy the rpi-1.
i'll have the rpi-2 image done in a week or so also.

Oh nice! I like it. Ok I see now you mean just take the bottom part out (the school part). I see that. That would look good too.
Nitro-
I'll read that post when I can. I have a model B+ (512 ram) I hear they might get mame 1.35 working on the rasp pi 2 BIG improvement!
-
Hey Omega,
Your front end on my little RPI 1. :)

That is quite impressive bud. It looks more responsive than what I expected. But, will it run Gauntlet Dark Legends? This will save a lot of money on mame project builds. You got any video launching games?
-
So, I started messing around with the extended conveyor simpleartstrip today. And, came up with the idea of creating a rolling film effect. Still deciding whether or not to make the snap fullscreen. But, here are early results.

here ya go.
I had to up my memory split to 128/128 with your layout so it's a little slow to launch games

note the scanlines in mame4all that my camera barely picks out.

Nice work omega. Real nice. I think it should be full screen. or at least make look like a theatre setting :)

ok nitro I'm up for it we'll see what a 256/256 will do. That is awesome! I tried another front-end today on the pi..I was not thrilled...but it is a beta. They say that they can run mame 134 on the pi 2

I was working on a retro theater when you posted. So, here it is. I thought it would be original but no, some other site already did something similar LOL...
-
Wow.. stop reading my mind man! :P lol Looks good. Yeah so what someone already did it. Did they do it like you? Ok then it's still original :)

I'm not sure how that version of Mame would run or what it plays that advmame doesn't.
-
Well I run pimame on my pi 1 (.34 base) adv mame is 1.06 base the pi 2 should run 1.34 base (same as my WII) on my WII it runs ok actually
-
Love the Vertical theme! Might have to use it on one of my own cabs.

Thanks... I need to update it with the new animate module. Liquid8, made some changes.

Awesome! Don't forget to check out my github.com/Luke-Nukem/ for the AttractMode extras and grab the Halation-CRT example for a good crt shader
