Try disabling AMD External events utility in the process list of Windows 7 (and stop it permanently). I had a similar problem to yours and doing that fixed it.

Thanks for letting me know. 
I don't suppose anyone has the lines of code for Squirrel that if inserted into the layout.nut of any given theme would allow one to view a larger sized version of the flyer at the press of a button.

I've seen in some themes people allow the viewing of the snap enlarged, I don't know how they did it but I saw creators display this in their youtube trailers to demonstrate the themes.
Anyone know what button press enables this? I was also wondering if this is theme dependent or universal accross Attract Mode, and if it is universal is it possible to do this with flyers as well? On a crt sometimes flyers are hard to see and it would be awesome to be able to see them enlarged with the press of a button.

So sorting "by year" with the added info (example: 1991-11-27) worked. Extra didn't work. I'm not sure what extra does actually, but thanks a bunch for the tip on adding the exact release dates.

So just to update this: the "no sort" option doesn't work for me. Even if I put Forgotten Worlds at the very top in the list in the cps.tag it ends up sorting the games by alphabetical order and not by rom file name order which is what seems to happen when going to "name". For example in the case of CPS games if I go by "name" 3 wonders appears at the top since the rom is called 3wonders.zip, but in "no sort" it starts with Alien VS Predator iirc.
From my testing leaving it to "no sort" puts them in alphabetical order based on the name in the database instead of file name, so 3 wonders goes to "T" as Three Wonders.
I'm going to try the Extra category and try putting in full release dates to the Mame.txt

Is such a thing possible?
One example I have is that I've been wanting to sort CPS, CPS2, CPS3 games by their exact release date, the best I can do is by year but then it sorts the same year games by alphabetical order. I'd like to have them numbered based on their entry in Capcom's catalog. Is there a way to do so?

That's weird, it was working for me just yesterday. I've had that error a few times last week using Attract Mode and then it would work a few hours later. I think it works depending on the time of the day, also might help if you're not scrapping for too much at a time. When I try to get scrapers for just a few newly added games by just putting those in the roms folder it tends to work just fine.

I already had it in basic. So I solved the problem and it was the keyboard mouse I think. By unplugging them and plugging them elsewhere I seemed to have messed up something. I ended up unplugging the arcade stick and the audio cable as well, after plugging those back and moving snaps back a few at a time I found everything was working all fine, so I copied all the snaps back and it was all fine. However after that I unplugged the mouse/keyboard from the front to move it back to the back usb port, and it all happened again, so I repeated the same process but this time leaving the mouse/keyboard in the back, and by the time I was done everything was working fine and the devices are where they should be.
Any idea what was going on? It's a weird issue, but anyway at least it's resolved even though I couldn't understand why it happened in the first place. XD

General / Suddenly snaps are slowing down Attract Mode to a crawl

Everything was running so well, and then suddenly after powering up today I find Attract Mode is like a snail, every up or down I press on the games list freezes the picture for some 3~5 seconds before moving to the next game. Even the escape key takes seconds to react. After multiple reinstalls and moving my backed up files back in place, I found the problem was the snap videos. Even with a single video if I scroll over the game with the video it will act that way. Without them everything moves smoothly as always.
I run Windows 7 64bit on a newly built Groovymame pc to crt, so all components are just a few weeks old.
Video card is an HD6450 and the processor is an i3 7350k with 8gb ram.
Games work fine when launched, nothing out of the ordinary.
There is no other software installed other than Attract Mode and Groovymame. The last thing I did was unplug the mouse from the front and plug it in the back on one of the two original plain usb ports. I have since moved it back to the front but I don't know if that is the cause.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where can I see what a game has as a genre class, for now all games are "unknown" and I would like to manually put in the genre but have no idea which file this goes into. I was thinking romlist but I see a "category" column which seems to have nothing in it.

Thank you. That worked. I was able to clean it up a little and the option for the flyer aspect ratio yes / no in the layout options shows up and works correctly as well. As for the text, well once properly calibrated it doesn't stand out quite as badly so I think leaving it this way will work fine (not worth the trouble at this point).
I really appreciate the tips and it's a lot of fun to work on Squirrel which is very similar to other object oriented languages I have studied.

Just wanted to give Oomek a heads up that I created a thread where I'm attempting to make a few changes to the Silky theme such as enabling true aspect ratio to the flyers and bring the top and bottom texts inwards a little to compensate from the overscan when using emudrivers on a crt (the first of which I seem to have managed to get working).
