Scripting / Re: ScrollingText module
« Last post by liquid8d on June 18, 2017, 07:21:51 PM »
As I mentioned before, there was no way to measure text width/height which you would need to accurately do something like that. With different fonts and font sizes, using number of characters in a string doesn't tell you much. You don't know if the text fits within its constraints, so you don't really know whether to scroll or not. You could set a limit of characters possibly, but with different fonts and font sizes, I don't think it'd be all that reliable.

For reliable scrolling, I think this is something that needs to be added in for text objects - or at least, provide a way in squirrel to accurately measure the virtual width/height of text with a specific font and size.

I'm going to look at some additional objects soon, so I might revisit this at that point. If I see raygun around, I might pester about it a bit more - since it is a lacking feature that is needed :)

Scripting / Display menu layout with number of roms for each emulator display
« Last post by janfribogar on June 18, 2017, 06:53:24 PM »
Hi,

I want to see the number of roms inside a display in the display menu for each system.

Can someone help me with that?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think there is a way to enable "hardware acceration" on a PC as mml (hardware acceleration for the pi) is well..for the pi. However I agree with you there has to be something. It wouldn't make a lot of sense otherwise. I have looked "everywhere" on the net as well for that. However a linux user might be able to do it..that is what the pi uses. Windows uses a much different type of hardware acceleration (directx maybe?) so The would have to be added into the code. That would be up to Ray on that one.

1. You might need to update your roms. The new updates for mame are every week now. You MUST have the correct rom version for your version of mame. (It's a pain I know). However I run two versions of mame myself. Sometimes it is not the rom version. Sometimes one mame version works better than the other. You can run two versions of mame just make them separate emulators. I use Advmame (mostly) and "stock" mame (for the TWO games advanced mame won't run..*grumble*). Your artwork should work no matter what "arcade" emulator you are using as mame has a standard of naming roms. Just point the second emulator to the same path the first one uses for artwork.

Once you make your list you can combine them into one list and when you start your game am will start the correct emulator

2. You would purge duplicates by filtering. Better yet use Romlister to create a bat file..move the ones you want to keep..delete the rest.

3. As far as I know yes it is only by game..by default. You can change that in the controls settings.

akafox and others, many thanks.

I have always had it set up properly as far as where the ROMs were, but was not aware I had to make my own "Arcade" Emulator... once I did that, all of it came together...

... then I buggered about with my video settings for a half hour trying to fix another "experiment", but now am having fun with figuring out which emulator between MAME2003 and FBA - I forget which ROMs are which  ;D

I am on a Pi and am having issues with getting FFMPEG to show up in AM. Not sure what's up. I posted some output from my Pi, and hopefully that may tell me the issue. It would be interesting (and beneficial) if they were related issues.
For Pi users, there is a preexisting thread covering what's needed here:

http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=1249.0

For PC users like myself, there is literally zero information to be had.  I don't even know if my question has an answer at all.  I am at the mercy of the likely very few people responsible for developing the app to hopefully drop by the official forums and clear this matter up.

I wish that worked... unfortunately it did not, and that's why I am in similar boat.

General / New install, couple of questions
« Last post by dunginhawk on June 18, 2017, 04:44:11 PM »
Good evening all... I am new (as of today) to this front end, but i like it.

couple of questions.
1. I have 2 versions of mame I use.  one for some other roms that i simply cant get running on newer versions, so I keep an older one around.  Problem is if I try to do the 2nd mame and use artwork, and what not and it doesnt quite work because it doesnt recognize mame1, because it had to be named something different.

2. for the love of pete has anyone figured out a way to purge duplicates?  tens of thousands of roms, I can not go through one by one :) id love a way to just remove duplicates, and non working.  one filter i have set up is working for duplicates, but how can i do versioning too?  so I dont have to see every version as well? maybe thats a start.

3. EDIT - is there any way to scroll by letter or something? with 20,000 games it takes forever to get anywhere, is it simply up and down game by game?

thanks all, this forum is quite good, with nice folks.

You have a reason, in my romlist file missing some key words, I put your line in my romlist file and the result was that the image appeared, my doubt and how I will make for a new romlist to see the correct information, you know to say

Sorry to bring this back, but the previous posts are partially helpful... I think...

I have not found a folder for cools in my AM, but am running Cools. Surely it is getting its config and layout from somewhere... yet nothing comes up in a search of my Pi... I want to edit the layout.nut file (to get rid of the rom name bar at bottom of screen) and wonder if just adding these folders to the layouts subfolder would work, or is it still going to get its config from wherever it gets it now?
