General / Attempted to compile AM onto Bionic Beaver Ubuntu (18.04 LTS)
« on: November 08, 2021, 04:44:00 PM »
Hello everyone. In the terminal, I attempted to follow the steps for compiling onto Ubuntu Bionic Beaver on my Odroid XU4 (18.04):

https://github.com/mickelson/attract/wiki/Compiling-on-Ubuntu-Bionic-Beaver-(18.04-LTS)-amd64-desktop

I then attempted to type attract and hit enter, but instead of loading the frontend, the following message was displayed:

Config file not found: /home/odroid/.attract/attract.cfg
MESA-LOADER: failed to load driver: exynos
Setting vertical sync not supported
Segmentation fault

Is there any way to fix these issues? I was able to load Attract Mode on my Pi 4B through the experimental build, but I'd love to try it with the XU4 now. I'm interested in testing N64, Dreamcast, Saturn, and PSP titles. Thanks for your input.  :)

Hello everyone. I would like to know the commands (executable and args sections) that should be used for FBA, NES, SNES, Turbografx-16, Turbografx-CD, PlayStation, PSP, Genesis, Sega Master System, MSX, Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo CD, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, Gameboy Advance, N64, and the Sega Dreamcast emulators. I am trying to set each of these within Attract Mode, but I don't know how to do this correctly. I'm trying to get all of this sorted out to get it working on the OGST. If anyone can give me some ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.  :D

My fault that I didn't mention that I added this Ubuntu image to my Odroid XU4. I was using the ARES build, but I decided to try a different OS. If anyone has suggestions as to what commands to use in the terminal, please let me know. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I made an attempt to run some commands to get RetroArch installed on my Ubuntu OS. I would like to build Attract Mode so I can add a nice frontend too. Does anyone have a guide or a list of commands I can use to build it on 20.04 LTS? Thank you for your help.  ;D

I actually found the solution here: github.com/mickelson/attract/issues/681

You can go to the last comment made by the user sergiohf (at the bottom of the page) to follow the steps that were suggested. That should restore the sounds of the preview clips on the main menu and for the wheels of each game on the console pages.

General / Any method of compiling AM for Odroid XU4 with ARES?
« on: October 12, 2021, 03:50:07 PM »
Hello. I just wanted to ask if anyone has created a recent guide on what commands should be used to prepare Attract Mode as an optional frontend for the Odroid XU4 with Retro Arena (ARES) installed. I attempted to do it myself, but I received a message which read: "Failed to open X11 display: make sure the display environment variable is set correctly. Aborted."

If anyone has an idea of how to do this, please let me know. Thanks for your input.  :)

Hello. I am outputting the sound (on the Retropie end) through HDMI. I even used a script to have music play in the background from my bgm folder. When you select each of the items, you hear a clicking noise. I have played each of these .mp4s on my PC and they work fine. I have switched to two other themes that I have available with the same result. This happened after I updated both the script and Attract-Mode (sorry if I didn't mention the latter earlier). Once I exited from AM, it produced the "AL lib: (EE) ALCplaybackAlsa_mixerProc: Wait timeout... buffer size too low?" message several times on the command prompt. I think the script update made a switch to PulseAudio and botched things up for the AM frontend.

If anyone knows of a series of commands to fix this problem, please let me know. I would really like to avoid a reinstall of all my files, as I spent weeks putting all of it together.

Thank you for your input.

General / No sound from .mp4 files in Attract Mode
« on: October 03, 2021, 02:21:04 PM »
I have installed the Raspberry Pi4 version of Attract Mode. I recently updated the script. When I loaded Attract Mode from the prompt, the main menu appeared, but none of the wheels produced the sounds from their respective .mp4 files. I checked my error log and noticed that it produced the following line:

AL lib: (EE) ALCplaybackAlsa_mixerProc: Wait timeout... buffer size too low?

Is there any method I should use to correct this issue? I'd like to get the audio back from these .mp4 files. They would also play a preview of some of the gameplay from each system (Main menu) or the iso/rom (system menu). At this point, no sound is produced when you highlight any of the wheels.

Thanks for your help.  :)

Themes / Re: TurboGrafx-16 mini layout update v2.1!!!

Out of all the Mini/Classic themes (Genesis, PSX, NES, Famicom, SNES, and TG-16), this one seems like it is the most functional. The cursor actually makes a noise as you move from left to right (or vice versa). The music in the background also plays simultaneously, and you also hear a "blip" after one of the games is chosen. You can also change the theme depending on your preference. If sickle can redo those five themes, he could probably change his code slightly to include just as many (or more) .mp3s to play in the background. Please let me know if you ever decide to work on one or more of these, as I have had some difficulty trying to get the sounds to work correctly. Thank you.  :)

I forgot to mention one other question. How do you generate the information that should appear for each game after you press the down button? Thanks again for anyone that can help.

I'm still stumped. I downloaded the SNES Classic set of files for the PC to get a sense of what changes need to be made. It seems to be similar to the Pi configuration. There is one problem, however. When I change the Ambient Sound section to the Menu Music that is actually supposed to play, it interferes with the snap music for each game. I also don't hear the click for each game as I pass through them or the select noise once I choose one. Is there any way to make the snap music turn on only when you press down (so that it will turn the Main Menu music off)? I would like to return to the Main Menu music when I press up to browse the selection of games. If anyone knows what commands should be used (as well as where to add them), please let me know. Thank you.  :)

I am still trying to figure out how to add the text you should see after you press the down arrow key.
One other feature I would like to change is the main menu music for each of the themes. If anyone has an idea of where I should make changes and what I should add, please let me know.

Thanks  :).

Hello everyone. I have attempted to use these themes on Attract Mode for the Raspberry Pi 4B. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how to keep the top and bottom half of the NES Classic,  Famicom Classic, Genesis, and PSX Mini displays from disappearing. I placed the default.png and the default-menu.png inside the systems folder for each of those respective consoles, but their skins are not showing up. I also would like to know how to setup the button configuration for each of these (including the SNES Classic). The mini snap appears to be working for each of these, but I would also like to know how you add the text (game description) near the larger snap preview that you see whenever the down button is pressed on the control pad. These are really nice editions to my collection of themes, but if anyone has ideas on how to fix these issues, please let me know. Thanks  :).

Just a question regarding the placement of folders for the Pi 4B. Where should the borders and sounds folders go? I am guessing that I should take the Super Nintendo US folder (inside the layouts folder) and place it inside the layouts folder within the .attract folder. I will use a program to resize all boxart pictures from the Retropie images folder to 500x500 so that I can add them to a seperate flyer folder within my SNES directory. If I am doing anything wrong, please let me know. Thanks for the effort in creating this theme and for anyone who can help.

Hello iOtero. I was just curious to know the progress on the Raspberry Pi Attract Mode version of this theme. It looks quite impressive and was wondering if it could be incorperated at its current state (if you are continuing work on this project). I did some research on Fruitbox and maybe one or two other multimedia players, but they only work for Pi Zero up to Pi 3B+. Please let me know.

Thank you.  :)
