Title: some robospin-like themes

been searching for some good looking themes left me a bit dissapointed. Robospin layouts are quite good but it has so few systems covered that i feel forced to make some news... I have tried to mix the robospin look with the idea of old tvs from "old room". They use almost all robospin code so they can use crt shaders, boxarts, scanlines for the background, etc... 

I'll posting here when i finish them... i have done many but they need a few touches here and there...

Yes!  Very nice!  I like this better than old room.  The tacked on system images look hokey... but your layout is very aesthetically pleasing.   Do you have plans to make themes for all the systems?

do you mean a layout with a flat tv? fine, i'll do it. I have seen that in 1920x1080 it works fine but on my retropie with a hd ready tv the snap could look wrong.

And yes, i want to make some main menu based on the unified theme.

I have plans to cover almost all systems that i need for my retropie, so yes. Then i could make some suggestions. In fact, most of them are almost finished but these days i can't past much time in front of my pc, so i'm realeasing them one by one. I hope i can have a bit of time in a few weeks.

p.d: well, i'm not sure if i'm going to make layouts for mame. I think that neon arcaderoom its perfect just as it is.

Im noticing that the pointer sizes just all around in difference sizes in your layouts. I know its sounds like im being nit-picky but how would you recommend editing the layout.nut's so they all show up the same size?

Hey Cosmo,

that's related to the size of the pointer.png files. Some are bigger than others. You can resize them in photoshop, gimp, etc...

then search for this line in layout.nut

local point = fe.add_image("pointers/pointer.png", flx*0.90, fly*0.34, flw*0.2, flh*0.35);

flx. is the position in the x axis (horizontal) it should be ok with a 0.88 - 0.91 range. flw* is the width of the image, some look ok with 0.2, some with 0.1

attract mode in pc make testing easier.

I'll finally have some free time this week, so expect more layouts in next days.

These look awesome Cosmo!!! All of these are top notch! Do you have any plans to create one for Famicom Disk System? There are zero layouts out there for it. I created a ghetto one hahaha. We really need some Cosmo help on this one lol. Do you have any plans on changing the artworks greatly between the genesis and mega drive or the Snes and Super Famicom so the look more distinct when switching the systems. Maybe changing out sonic on one of them and switching out donkey kong on one of them. Right now I'm just making the overlay really dark on the mega drive so it looks somewhat different :)

Love them man! I think after you have completed all the systems, and pack it up in a zip, that it deserves its own unique theme title because these are the best. Maybe something like "Cosmo Theme" "Cosmatic Theme" :)

In your screenshots  (Atari 2600 for example) there is no grey box behind your title but in mine download I have this grey box behind the Atari logo. What do I need to delete in the .nut to make it disappear?

a grey box? check if you have the marquee option enabled in the layout options. Or take a capture or a photo and upload it here.

I will upload SG-1000 and N64 in the next days.

This layout is compatible con marquees and i have been experimenting with adding some crt effect to the screen (the shaders doesn't seem to work in retropie). You can enable or disable changing the cabinet in the layout options.

Yeah, it's really nice. I don't understand why people don't want to share their creations. I want to make something like that but it's a lot of work and it will take time...

The first one uses simple png logos in a black background (i could make it a bit transparent), the other one uses the motion blue logos. Not sure about the pointer. Any suggestions?

That's so cool. I will try to get the main Wheel to Work with Hursty's. Don't know if that is changede the same way as the others :D

I just got a bit insecure about how to change the main layout. I can se that it is located elsewhere that the other layouts. right now i have the Robospin. I guess that i don't just copy over the files in the main layout section?

If like me you're running it through a TV you have to downscale the image, putting it to 1920x1080 worked for me (HD TV resolution)

To save you time here it is with both cabinets downscaled, popped in a MAME pointer instead of the rocket thing and I edited the .nut file so you can have both the brick background and game flyers showing together, I really like it check out the picture below.

I did also join to give a big thanks to Cosmo, love your themes, been checking this thread everyday for updates slowly changing all my themes to yours.  I know you've mentioned you're still to do the ZX Spectrum, MSX, Commodore 64 and Commodore Amiga.  Any plans for the Capcom Play Systems, Final Burn Alpha and MSX2? If not looking forward to the template to try something myself.

I didn't do any changes to the nut to get the cabinet to display correctly, I just downscaled the images as they were over the normal HD resolution so would only work on a PC not through a HD TV. For the flyer I simply copied the Brick background:

I did forget to downscale the image to 1920x1080....!
(I use display scaling in my nvidia settings so i didn't noticed)

The new Coordinates for Flyer/Marquee/Game Display in the NUT Files must be ok for everyone.
@FinalFightMan: In the Display Settings you can change the look (like the original 4:3 version) and the Emulator Setting must point to (for example) your flyer artwork directory.

Are you using a TV set at 720p resolution? I have one 720p and 1080p and I find the 720p has the videos off slightly and the overlays are well off.  Not sure how to fix this if you want it to work on a 720p probably have to play with the numbers in the .nut file.

Any more themes or updates Cosmo? I'm always checking back for your themes alone they're great.

While we're waiting on Cosmo I've been editing the Robospin-HD theme a bit more, using the borders from the unified theme I've made it a bit more universal.  For any of the Arcade systems (Arcade, MAME, FBA, Cave, PGM, Psikyo, Visco and any of the Classics) this will appear as the Robospin-HD theme, with flyers, marquees and a nice border on the right side so you can see which system you're currently on. Enjoy!

This one there are two styles, purple and red.  To choose between them you have to change the background, cabinet and pointer (I've labelled them Purple and Red for ease) or mix and match if you prefer.

Side note, I set my layouts to use a different font to normal, just edit the .nut to the font you prefer if you don't like.

They do allow it, you might have to enable it in the layout options first. I've noticed the PC Engine CD one will probably default to nothing, you need to go into the layout options and change the cabinet, background and pointer to one of the options as it defaults to an option that doesn't exist, going to fix that though and reupload. This is now updated. I also did an alternative Famicom Disk System robo cabinet attached below, just replace the existing one if you wish or you could rename it moon and have it there to select in the options.

That problem is in every robospin theme i have used. Barely noticiable in a full hd tv but it's there. Something botched in the code i was using, i presume. I will purge it if i can find what's wrong with it.

Ok, here's the first template with a Sony Triniton TV as you can see for example on the psx layout. there's .psd files for the cabinet and the pointer...
The only thing you'll need to edit in the code is the boxart size and position on the screen.

I've noticed that white thing, it is in the top left, if you work it out Cosmo let me know please I'll update the ones I've done. It must be something in there, then again for most consoles it is unwanted code when there are no marquees involved.

Got boxart working great on all themes.  Just a random note, has anyone else noticed that MSX emulation is not completed?  Used to play 2 games as a kid on MSX called Snake It and Oh S**t!! and both have digitized speech but not on emulation.  I checked on youtube for game play both have the speech but not on retropie.  Use to use bluemsx on pc years ago and it worked but can't get it to work on retropie as boots me back to the game selection screen.  Fmsx works but no speech.  Very strange.

Thanks for the Amiga theme! Looks like it's the one I all ready have. But for some odd reason. I can't get the box art and text to work. So my left side is mostly empty.
It is set to on. And the box art are named the same as the game files.
Do any one have any idea of what I'm doing wrong?

The boxart is actually the marquee art in that layout, you can either change this in the .nut, move the files over to the other folder or rename the art in the emulator config.

Hi, from what you've explained and how it works on unified my first guess is that you've simply not selected the option in the displays menu. I think a few of the themes default the option to "No".

love the layouts, the only problem i have are the scan-lines shader for some views (eg. NES) the screen is quite block by the thick curved lines, any way making them more pleasant eg nevato layout style?

EDIT: done it myself :) looks great with bloom shader

I did do a Neo Geo AES theme, I use an robospin arcade one for all my arcade systems. This has some more 'features' (Such as wheel fade, boxart sweep in to replace the faded wheel and my own button guide layout which has PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U support) than previous robospin themes and I've been adding them to all of them. It's taking me ages and I'm not quite done yet but I will share a big pack with all the themes from this thread with the added features:

The problem is you'd have to do it for each individual layout. I'm trying to work on a universal theme that you select and it will have all the robospin themes in one which should make something like this much easier to edit. Problem is my coding is very, very limited and I'm a little stumped, hoping for some help from people on the forum to get me to finish it.

I would like to modify the arcade theme to remove the game date and game title text at the bottom of the screen and replace it with the players info in the nPlayers.ini file and the controls info in the controls.ini file.  Is this possible?  If so would someone be good enough to post how to do it?

Hi there. New to this attract mode thing. I must say it works pretty well and the themes from this thread is awesome. Sadly in this case my display is 4:3 (I use a Picade) so these themes look squashed on my display. I am not proficient to convert these to 4:3. Does anyone know of any great system specific 4:3 layouts?

Hi everyone.  I'm a first time poster who just discovered Attract Mode just last week.  I've since installed most of Cosmo's skins from this thread.....absolutely amazing by the way!  I've run into only one snag, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help.  On the Game Boy Color theme, it appears that the video is misaligned.  I've attached a photo to show what I mean.  I'm guessing the coordinates / dimensions of the snap can be adjusted via the layout.nut file, and I was wondering if anyone would know what they might be and where exactly to input them.  Thank you so very much in advance!
