General / Re: Filter for Mame platform
« on: March 18, 2015, 10:02:28 AM »
Actually because the list for MVS and AES is so close it would not take you long to just take all the neogeo games and the delete the AES version ones. I did that took me about 15 minutes. I have my MAME system set for MVS (mame) and then a Neo-Geo list that has just AES (mess). I think there are only about maybe 5 that are were made for AES and not the MVS.  Try here for a list http://www.neo-geo.com/snk/masterlist.htm And here is a script to pull out all the neogeo games from your mame roms http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=132.0 (at the bottom of the thread.)  I'm jealous I want a dedicated neogeo cab  :P

Glad you got it figured out. :) I couldn't get it to work either. I was using the configure menu and I tried a simple "Controls contain joystick" and got nothing. The only thing I could get to work right is the "category rules". Works every time even with other emulator lists. Maybe I am just missing something. That's funny how you did that..that is the same "formula" that RomLister uses!  ;D Looks like you typed yours out??  ???  I copied and pasted your filter config..it filtered all but two games for my list.  :o  So..is anyone else having a problem with this or is it just me?

Edit: Ok so I did get it to work. I am not sure what was wrong. *Shrugs* To default it to a filter? As far as I can tell what filter you had showing last should show when you start AM. If you REALLY want you can delete the all filter so that it doesn't ever show. If you do though make sure all you games list in your other filters you want!

Could you give me an example of what you are trying to do? I understand the filter part..but what type of filter are you trying to make? Are you wanting to hide  bootleg, prototype,Sports,Trivia,Quiz,Mahjong? I'm guessing this but I hate to assume.  Also I seem to be having the same problem I'll look into it.

If you want you can use RomLister to make a batch file and delete the games you don't want from your roms folder. You can find it here. http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ It will run fine in WINE if you need help let me know.

I made a little progy to fish out the neogeo roms for you. Windows users get the 7z file, for linux get the tar.gz. (FreeBSD the linux should work for you too.) Sorry Mac users I don't know anything about Mac...although I think Mac is unix based..you could try the linux version..but I have no idea. Let me know if you have any problems.

Also remember Attract Mode will get rid of the pesky parenthesis to make your list look better Press TAB then in general options make hide brackets set to yes. Also if you want to set up mess to play neo-geo AES use the mame.exe and add all the extra info files "catver.ini , nplayers.ini, ect.) use mame as the info source. You want to make a temporary folder with your neogeo games in it and point Attract mode to that one. Then build your list..after that change your exe to mess and make sure not to forget the aes -cart before the rom file name. Point your rom path back to your mame roms (and point your paths to your mame artwork if you want) then "exit". This will save you space (a minimum if 2.7 GB) and you don't have to use any space for artwork either! Yeah so you have it twice..but you get features in the AES (home) version you don't get in the MVS (arcade) version. You will have a "clean" list for them too!

Where is the "I'm not worthy" smiley at..wow those are awesome man!  ;D Thanks for sharing your work. I'm more of a code monkey not a graphics artist lol I started doing my own "media pack" I have made 664 video snaps and i am going to make "custom marquees" because I hate the look of a blank marquee  :P I started making my own wheel art for mame..but I have no hair left..so I'll have to wait a bit. I do want to share some. Don't get me wrong I know it is a lot of hard work to do all that...but as for hyper spin kinda sucks to show all that and then you get "nothing" (batteries not included!) and it would be a BIG download! I have read that emu movies snaps suck but I don't know anything about that..never seen one. Here is some wheel art I made. Question about video snaps..I know people have LCD or LED monitors..but do you really want them HD..I mean come on Pac-Man looks even worse in HD lol As for "insterst" in your work..yes it is work but do you love doing it? if others use it great..if not..it's the thrill of making it..either way you win. (I'll download everyone of them! lol) I used a theme when I was using Mamewah..just because they looked good and well he did EVERY system so it made my cab look nice. People like that more than anything.

I am not a graphics wizard but I put a label or two in the basic layout that came with your spinwheel. Hope you don't mind. Great work by the way love the theme! The other backgrounds (with the system pics) are awesome! Good work man! HS is just too much eye candy I think..and mala was too plain. Attract mode is in the middle and that is good for us who have computers that are not i5s and i7s quad cores with 16GB ram. (Plus I love penguins.)

Actally there is a program that will do that for you. It worked very well on Winddows XP SP3. So well it fact that people thought that was how it was set up because they never saw ANY windows anything...even the splash screen is changed. As easy as click pick and reboot. Here is the link http://www.gameex.com/instant-sheller-and-shelling-guide/ No need to do any registry changes by hand it does it for you.

Hey awesome! Attract Mode made the front page on MAME World! http://www.mameworld.info Great work guys! Congratulations!  ;D Now we just need a permanent link with the other front ends listed there! (and have them get rid of the ones the are not developed any more!)

« on: February 24, 2015, 02:26:39 PM »
Well I tried it. Two problems. One it makes duplicates! Might be a bug (I don't think that version 0.27 did that). Two the categories don't line up with attract mode so not sure if it will work. here is a sample:

Code: [Select]
Alien Challenge (World);aliencha;1994;IGS;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Alien Challenge (World);aliencha;1994;IGS;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Astra SuperStars (J 980514 V1.002);astrass;1998;Sunsoft;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Astra SuperStars (J 980514 V1.002);astrass;1998;Sunsoft;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Battle Arena Toshinden 2 (USA 951124);ts2;1995;Capcom / Takara;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Battle Arena Toshinden 2 (USA 951124);ts2;1995;Capcom / Takara;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Bloody Roar 2 (World);bldyror2;1998;Eighting / Raizing;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Bloody Roar 2 (World);bldyror2;1998;Eighting / Raizing;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Burning Rival (World);brival;1992;Sega;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Burning Rival (World);brival;1992;Sega;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Ehrgeiz (US, EG3/VER.A);ehrgeiz;1998;Square / Namco;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus
Ehrgeiz (US, EG3/VER.A);ehrgeiz;1998;Square / Namco;6;joy8way;Fighter / Versus

romlister sorts like this:
#Title;description;year;manufactuer;buttons;type;category (along with other things)

but when attract mode makes a list it sorts like this
#Name;Title;Emulator;CloneOf;Year;Manufacturer;Category;Players;Rotation;Control;Status;DisplayCount;DisplayType;AltRomname;AltTitle

and as far as I can tell attract mode will not even see the list

Omegaman, could you upload all aeon layout files for every system that you have? I really like attract mode however can't find any other ready layouts for other systems than mame.

Actually you could use layouts for any front end I think. I tweaked the basic layout so I could use emu christ’s layout's http://wahki.mameau.com/index.php?title=Cpviewer_color for mamewah. I will admit the tool for mamewah to make and or change layouts was convenient and i think we would get more people to make them for attract mode if we had one. Not all people understand coding concepts. It's just a suggestion. :)

I might try Rom Lister again and see if that works. http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister It will make a txt format list like attract mode uses. I'll try it out and get back to you.

it's only mame and short name at that. I guess the catver works for mame because the rom names are the same..and they must be that way or mame won't work. With other emulators that is not true you can have long names with spaces. I'll post what i have done so far on my "nescatver.ini" if you'll try it please. If I can get them made I hope the you will let me host them here for people to use.  :) It is slow going though...

Understand that this is not at all close to being finished. Also it may or may not work depending on the names of your roms. (I used good tools and renamed all mine http://www.allgoodthings.us ) Just like with mame the rom names must be exactly named what they are in the catver file. After you download it put it somewhere (your main nes folder is a good place). Back up your list (rename it to nes.txt.bak) Then in attract mode under "Additional Import Files(s)" point it to the file and then rebuild your list. I use the basic layout at the bottom it shows the category just like mame roms do if you use the catver.ini with mame. Better yet I can now sort and filter my roms just like my mame games! :D

If you have any trouble let me know. It works great for me.
