Scripting / automatic coins
« on: August 06, 2015, 08:00:20 PM »
would it be difficult to write a script to make it so that as soon as the mame game is launched coins are automatically "inserted"? Yes I know that takes away the arcadeness...but for those that don't have a cab it wouldn't matter much. I know that some games can be set to free play but not all of them can. Good idea? Bad idea? I do not know enough squirrel yet to make a script like that..anyone up for the challenge?

Emulators / The Rules
« on: August 04, 2015, 06:08:12 AM »
First Rule: Absolutely no asking for roms. Any type of questions OR answers of that sort will be removed! Please understand this is not to be rude or mean in anyway. That is just how it is because it has to be that way.

How you get your roms is up to you. Use a search engine.

Second Rule: Try not to post "have you searched [for your problem]" or "love to help you but oh well sorry about your luck." That is not what this topic thread is for, it's to help others if you are not going to help...don't post.

Third Rule: Post your Computer info (cpu type, amount of ram, graphics card, and operating system) that will help us out A LOT.

The people that are helping are here to help..not do it for you. Please respect that. However knowing that you tried on your own first people will be more willing to help.

Again if you need specific info or you are having trouble with a emulator look on that emulators forum!

Last...emulation is not easy! It is a lot of hard work but the rewards are worth it! :)

General / new attract mode front page topic
« on: July 23, 2015, 10:25:09 AM »
I am torn. I don't want to fill up the forum with help me with "xyz.2.11.2" emulator set up...(that is help with the emulator itself..not setting it up in AM) raygun..would you allow that on this forum? I don't mind doing a write up for setting them up in AM to post here. However I do like discussing "emulator stuff" can we make that a new "topic" instead of posting them in the "general" section? Also I do not mind helping people with setting up the emulator itself (that will be part of my write ups) but I just feel that should be left on the actual emulators forums..yet I understand getting help there sometimes is like pulling teeth or begging :( mameinfo world is scary big and would intimidate a newbie! I even posted a question there and never got an answer..waited 2 months!

what do you guys feel about this?!

also would a "how to set up xyz emulator with attract mode" be welcome do you think?

how many of you "emulator veterans" are willing to help out getting emulators themselves set up for people?

General / Note to liunx users and attractmode
« on: June 04, 2015, 11:52:24 AM »
I did it. I formatted my arcade set up and installed A new version of lubuntu (15.04) ( I had a hardware issue) Well no big deal. Got my back up back on and started to install deb packages. When I got to the attractmode deb I could not install it. The needed dependencies are NOT in the repository (yet at least) so I pulled them of my other box and got everything working. Just wanted to let you all know.

General / Any way to hide lists?
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:25:27 AM »
I want to say this has been asked..but I could not find it. Sorry if I made a duplicate thread.

Back in my Windows days I was using MameWah. With it I could "skip" lists. In other words it would not cycle to be seen but it was still there. Normally I used that feature because in the main list nothing could be deleted from it. So I made another "all games" list that was edited to my tastes and then set it up to where the "master list" never showed.

I'd like do that with attract mode. What I am doing is I have my games split by category (e.g. maze, fighting, platform ect.) but the "all games" list cycles right along with them. I would like to hide that list so people can just cycle by category instead.

Emulators / Open source mame *updated*
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:17:24 AM »
So I am sure by now most have you have seen the mame is now open source. While I am sure that there is a looong thread about it on mameworld I just wanted to get your options I guess as I know some of you here.

I don't think a licence has been picked yet. So I guess the future of mame really depends on the license that is used.
But what do you all think? Is it good bad..does it matter to you?

I am not sure what to think yet myself but it could turn out to be a good thing. Now anyone can work on it change it and just (hopefully) make it better. And with MESS being in the code as well what does it mean for mess?

A quarter for you thoughts...or you can just play me in joust instead....

General / AttractMode 1.5.2 debs
« on: May 14, 2015, 12:32:04 PM »
Note: version 1.60 debs are here

http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=444.0

Note: version 2.00 debs are here

http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=752.0

Here they are. AMD 64 and i386 both. Please test and use. Any problems let me know here. :)

EDIT: As of linux ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Thar) all the needed dependencies will come down making for a smooth install.
As for the new ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid) well they "broke" it. For some reason these are NOT in the repos yet. So if you want to use 15.04 here is a list of the dependences you will need...your setup might differ.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libavcodec54
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libavformat54
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libavutil52
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libgcrypt11
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libgnutls26
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/librtmp0
http://packages.ubuntu.com/ca/trusty/libswscale2

First download the arch you want amd64/i386. Then install them.

The easiest way to install these is to download them all first...then put them into a folder by themselves. (ALL OF THEM) then back up one level right click on the folder and select "open this from a terminal" (your distro may very).
once the terminal is up change to a "root" account. Now type:

Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
then you can install attractmode! :)

The other way (harder?) is to use the gui gdebipackage manager or ubuntu sofware center (depending or your distro) if you go through the gui you will get errors..I didn't write the order needed to install them (i am reading this after just installing sorry) but as long as you have the debs i posted..it might error and tell you need a different one installed first..just install the one it is complaining about first. you'll eventually get it installed..after they are all installed attractmode should install without problem.

if you need further assistance pm me and I will try to help you.

Themes / My Neo-Geo theme
« on: April 20, 2015, 08:39:00 PM »
Yeah it's not the best..and I will change it I am sure. (An 'artist' is never happy with his work right? :P ) But what it is for is well neo-geo only cab. Mame does muticart emulation but it only does one to six games..(yeah like a real neo-geo should that's what mame is about) but you have more than six games? Ok then that's what it's for. Yeah call me crazy..and some have but I would not mind a dedicated neo cab along side my upright. You'll see it shows the mini marquee like a regular marquee but the video area is big because it shows the intro attract mode and changes as you cycle...kinda like a real neo-geo cabinet would. MAME will do that by itself....but AM does it better :P

(EDIT: I noticed the layout never got uploaded! I'll fix that..sorry folks!)

General / Running DICE with Attract Mode
« on: April 13, 2015, 04:37:58 PM »
So I don't know if anyone will care or even uses this emulator.  It goes back further then MAME. Yes i'm talking about PONG! (Hey technically it is an arcade game! :P ) The problem with DICE is that it does not load emulators like more "traditional" emulators. There are no roms needed for some games. So how to get attract mode to load them? What I did is make a roms folder and make "empty roms" That is I made a new text file and renamed it "gamename.nul" (e.g. Pong.nul) Don't use spaces or underscores in the name! Then you have attract mode look for .nul as a file type. Then generate your list as usual. You might have to tweak your gamelist file a little so it shows "Space Race" and not spacerace" I hope this helps! :)
