This wasn't originally my theme. This is based off of OlRoom theme found here:
http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=926.15
Please give them the credit for the original. Apologies to the original creators for the liberties I've taken with their work. OlRoom was done very well, but it doesn't work for my setup, so I had to create my own versions. Since my themes are 4:3 (though work in multiple sizes) and use slightly different code I decided to create my own thread.
Features:
- Themes were designed at 4:3, but scale to other sizes
- Does not use a spinning wheel (but does use wheel logos)
- Contains changed console images and controller images. I tried to adjust the scaling and perspective to be in tighter range.
- Image/Names are based on US console versions
These themes all assume the use of Hyperspin & Emumovies assets for videosnaps, flyers, etc. I'll note what is required in the description of each one.
If you need the PSD (Photoshop) file, you can download it here (https://mega.nz/#!74VS2Y5A!XC4917LrkT47j3nLL_lMBrOwNtfVNNisvjDNi72fysc). It's fairly large (200+mb), but well organized:
UPDATE ---------------------
You can download the individual themes elsewhere in this thread, but I've made a unified layout so you only need one theme folder to handle multiple emulators. It displays:
Atari 2600
Intellivision
Nintendo NES
Nintendo SNES
Nintendo 64
Sega Genesis
Sony Playstation
ScummVM
Generic PC
Generic TV
If you want any other system added to this theme please let me know.
Usage Instructions:
There are 2 methods:
a. Name your lists like the above and it will change styles automatically when switching between supported emulators.
I was unable to find a dynamic method within AttractMode to change the style based on the emulator (the variables were only for display, not for evaluation) so it changes based on list name.
b. If you don't want to use specific list names, duplicate the layout (name it whatever you want) and set the "Selected System" option to the specific style you want.

OlRoom NES 4x3 (works on other sizes too)
- Snap: video snaps from emumovies
- Flyer: 2d boxart (either hyperspin or emumovies)
- Wheel: wheel logos from hyper spin
- Marquee: cartridge tops... I think from hyperspin. If not... check emumovies
- If wheel logo images aren't selected in the settings, game titles are shown (in Pretendo (https://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Pretendo.htm) font if added to this theme folder or installed on your system)
-
OlRoom Atari 2600 4x3
- Snap: video snaps from emumovies
- Flyer: 3d boxart from hyperspin
- Wheel: wheel logos from hyper spin
- Marquee: cartridge tops... I think from hyperspin. If not... check emumovies
- If wheel logo images aren't selected in the settings, game titles are shown (in SFAtarianSystem-Bold (http://www.dafont.com/atarian-system.font) font if added to this theme folder or installed on your system)

Hi mahuti, thanks for sharing these awesome themes! If you have an SNES version please add it to this thread ;)
-
It's coming, as will be an N64.
-
Do you also play the game with that overlay?
-
No. However if one wanted you could make it into a static overlay.
-
Hi Mahuti, thanks for your theme!
I tried to use the original OlRoom theme in my AM for RetroPie with a 800 x 600 screen, and indeed it adapted poorly to a 4:3 screen, so I was looking exactly for this for some of the 8-bit computers and consoles (Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad, Atari 8bit, Oddysey2, Coleco)
Would you share a "blank" theme? If possible, one with a cassette to show the title of the game. (There is a ZX Spectrum original OlRoom like that) I'll ask a friend to modify the background to make those themes.
-
Thanks for porting my theme to 4:3 resolution!
Good Work! ;D ;)

That's a great Idea. I'll do that.
I WILL be sharing the PSD too, but I need to get one of those megashare accounts or something first.

Thanks for converting these, they look great! I'm having issues with the Flyer: 2d boxart showing up. Naming convention is as per hyperspin, the Marquee's work and the snaps. Any ideas?
-
1. Is the flyer art named the exact same thing as the Marquees and the snaps?
2. In attractmode, do you have flyer path for the emulator configured correctly?
3. Are the permissions on the flyer folder and images set to 755 or 777? (or whatever the perms are supposed to be. I'm lazy and I always CHMOD 777 and CHOWN pi and CHGRP pi)

Thanks for the tips Mahuti, I'll check these tonight once I get back home.

These are great thanks, especially for arcade monitors. Can I ask have you got a SNES one or PSX? Thanks again for your work.
-
I'm almost done with SNES, N64 and PSX as well as a generic one too

All looks good my side, I checked out the layout.nut and noticed the Boxart part has "flyer", should this be "boxart"?
// Boxart
local flyer = fe.add_artwork("flyer", flw*0.70, flh*0.487, flw*0.1944, flh*0.3666);
flyer.preserve_aspect_ratio = false;
flyer.trigger = Transition.EndNavigation;

Great work with these, thanks so much!

Some of the default images of attract mode have several preset folders. "Boxsrt" isn't one of them. In my description I mention what kind of content should go in each of these folders. I can go back and make the instructions more specific.
Or you can change the layout file to suit.

Thanks, OK I'm still a noob, I'll change the layout to suit. Thanks again and look forward to the SNES and PSX ones 8)

Hi Mahuti, any news on when you'll release these 4x3 themes? Thanks.
-
These 4:· themes suit CRT TVs very well
I hope Mahuti finds the time to release the blank one
-
I got busy. You'll hear from me in the next few days. Sorry for the wait.
-
I rebuilt the code from the ground up to make it faster to build new themes. SNES, N64, Intellivision, ScummVM (this is a base for a generic PC one) are done. PSX almost, and there is now a generic TV one done too. I'm actively working on these, so it'll be released soon.

Hello Mahuti,
Im am new to Attract Mode and was looking for 4x3 themes. The work you've done on the OlRoom themes is great and surpasses the original. I wanted to thank you for it!
-
Thanks man, that was kind of my goal. This runs on my machine too, so I'm pulling out the stops.
I still have a few more things to clean up here and there I've noticed. I'll post up when done.
-
Thanks man
Sorry, where can I find the links to download these topics and it would be possible to get the psd you used to pass them to 10:9 (1360x768), Than´s.
-
My first post includes the theme download as well as a link to the PSD.
-
I've updated this theme to run in additional sizes. Still some work I'd like to do, but it's at least a lot more flexible now.
-
dam.. three years later u are a warrior .... got to get it thanks
-
Hah hah. Yeah well... its been bugging me for 3 years. I think I'd done most of the work a few years ago but just hadn't released it. Since I've been working on my positioning module lately this was one of the early guinea pigs for that and I figured it was time to wrap it up.
Im gonna go back in and tweak the drop shadows so that they are shaders instead of hard coded. There's a few other things I'd like to do too but we will see.
