Down and dirty filter
« on: October 17, 2018, 07:37:22 PM »
I wish to create a filter that will:
Allow games from the 1970s
Allow games from the 1980s.

I am getting ready to set up a mame system using a spare laptop, my HDMI TV, and my Centurion controller. I have two younger little guys so I don't want to chance to select any of the later games. Plus, I'm old-school and prefer that range of games.

Any help would be appreciated. I am using Kubuntu as the OS.

Best,

James

Create a 70’s game filter
Configure-->Displays--><system/emulator>-->Add Filter-->Enter Filter Name=70’s Games-->Add Rule
Target=Year
Comparison=contains
Filter Value=197

Create a 80’s game filter
Configure-->Displays--><system/emulator>-->Add Filter-->Enter Filter Name=80’s Games-->Add Rule
Target=Year
Comparison=contains
Filter Value=198

You just inspired me to add a variation on my "More of the same..." menu: not just from the same year, but from the same decade!

That was a good start. I ended up doing this:
(197.)|(198.)

Now I'm just going over the global filter to start getting the total down.

Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it working. From your original post I thought you wanted two filters, one for the 70's and one for the 80's. I can now see that you wanted one filter to include both the 70's and 80's.

You mention a global filter. You can apply the same type of rules in a global filter if you never want to see anything other than 70's and 80's games. There are also several other filters that you might want to use like "no clones". This post has some info you might be interested in http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=2297.msg15515#msg15515.

Glad to inspire you. I think some of your recent offerings bring a lot to the AM frontend!

Thank you.

Yes, the initial request was for a filter to allow only the 70s and 80s. As I got my teeth cut, I decided to consolidate and then go with the global filter.

The link you provided was invaluable!

Brief update:

Filters working fine and I have been enjoying playing Mame under the Attract Mode front end.

I am not certain if there is a bug, but sometimes, exiting out seems to be hit or miss. No biggie as I can use the ctrl-alt-f1 and then ctrl-alt-f7 to get back to the desktop.

Anyway, been enjoying the setup and here are several pictures -- sorry about the lack of light. And, thanks again to all who helped!  8)

Best,

James
