Themes / Re: [download] NEVATO theme
« on: August 16, 2018, 02:31:58 AM »
Just wanna say thanks to Verion - this theme is amazing and is the cornerstone of my whole build. Brilliant stuff.

With that said, a question... Any idea what might be causing this - the text on the LCD strip (play count etc) to be out of alignment? This was fine before - for months. It's like it on every display. I did update AM, not sure if that caused it... and I can't find the option to turn this text off to just remove it entirely, either?!

General / Game Order tweaks
« on: November 08, 2017, 02:29:41 AM »
Hey folks,

I've got a cabinet that I'm running which has a display for various systems - I have one main display that combines Windows EXEs, MAME, Model2 and Demul - all works pretty brilliantly.

This displays a bunch of different games using their titles, but what I'm looking to do is edit a bunch of games so they appear in a different order. It mostly applies to 'Super' fighting games and stuff - for instance, I'd like Ultra Street Fighter IV (windows EXE) to sit next to Street Fighter V in the menu. I've tried editing the game and changing the title, but this doesn't appear to move the game in the general order of things in the display. The same is true of say, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (MAME), where if I edit its title to be "Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate" it remains down in the Us - I presume because of the romname (umk3).

Anyway, is there a way around this? Hoping there is, but it's not the end of the world if not...

General / Alphabetical Order with multi-system displays?
« on: June 08, 2017, 04:58:05 AM »
Hey folks!

I'm using AM and love it. I wanted to create one Emulator using 'Generate romlist' that features the games from MAME, Model 2 Emulator and Sega Naomi. This works fine; I'm able to create a romlist and everything boots into its own discrete emulators perfectly.

However, I have a small problem: The Naomi and Model 2 games don't show up in the correct place in the romlist. They all show up at the end of the list - but do show up down there in alphabetical order. So it goes MAME, Model 2, Naomi, each in alphabetical order, on the same display. If possible, I'd like them to all be blended into one alphabetical list, so Hogan's Alley (MAME) is next to House of the Dead 1 (model2) and House of the Dead 2 (naomi). Is that possible?

General / Re: Attract Mode window focus problem - but only with MAME?
« on: March 27, 2017, 01:09:01 AM »
@hermine.potter So... resfix was already enabled for /all/ emulators, and making it specific to my mame emulator doesn't seem to be working either. Turning it off and back on doesn't have any impact either. Thanks for the advice; any more ideas?

Another wrinkle to this is if I switch MAME to windowed mode it all works fine again - but obviously that doesn't look right. I've tried with two versions of mame 181 (regular mame and mameui), plus with a 183 alpha... all the same.

This situation is the same - I've just checked - in every single display mode for Attract Mode. I'm guessing the fault lies with MAME, but I'm hoping somebody can help me to make this work with AM.

General / Attract Mode window focus problem - but only with MAME?
« on: March 26, 2017, 05:37:17 AM »
Hey folks!

Just a quick query... I've had attract mode set up for a while now with no major problems, except something has just broken out of the blue with no changes made to break it. Go figure... I'm hoping this is a pretty obvious fix.

So, I'm running attract mode in the default fill screen mode. I've got a number of different machines on there, from steam to MAME to some old consoles, some using MAMEUI, some not.

Anyway, here's my problem: with MAME, and only MAME, when I quit out of a game attractmode doesn't get Focus back. Attract Mode is there, frozen, and the focus is instead on the windows taskbar (which I have set to automatically hide). With every other thing focus is handed back fine - be that Street Fighter 4 or 5 through Steam, NullDC for Dreamcast, Dolphin for Gamecube - they all play nice. This problem is specific to MAME. It's easily fixed with a quick alt-tab, but that's not ideal, obviously.

My attract mode settings seem to be fine - fill screen, console hidden, etc. Whats more, this worked with MAME previously, so this problem is new. It used to be fine. Any ideas? Any work-arounds? Thanks all!

General / PC Game Launching, video decoding questions
« on: February 15, 2017, 12:11:41 PM »
Hey all! So... two questions.

1) Video Decoding... I notice in the settings I have an option called 'Video Decoder', but other than 'software' I have no options. Is there a way to get more options here? I'm imagining switching to another type of decoder would relieve some pressure from AM while it's running, though this is also a powerful machine in general... This is a windows-based machine, not a pi or whatever. It'd be cool to run something else if it's possible, but I'm not sure how?

2) PC games. I've got some issues with some Steam games, and I'm not sure why. Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter X Tekken and Skullgirls all won't launch from AttractMode. SF4 and SFxT kick out Direct3D related errors before booting you right back to AttractMode, while Skullgirls gives no feedback at all. I've tried these games with displays that both scrape directly from steam and displays that scrape for Links/EXEs, the result is always the same. If I boot directly from Steam or from the shortcut links directly in windows, all boot, but via AM it simply refuses. I can see through a cursory search some other users of attractmode have got SF4 working, too. I've posted about this problem before to no avail, but since I was posting about decoding I figured I'd ask again, as I've been hunting for a solution for a while and it's driving me to distraction!

General / Screensaver - rotating through ALL video snaps?
« on: February 11, 2017, 05:04:29 PM »
Hey folks... just a quick question about the screensaver function... is it possible to make it rotate through ALL available snaps? As it stands now, the screensaver will rotate through all the available snaps for the display you're currently on when it times out. For instance, if it times out on MAME, it'll rotate through MAME snaps in the screensaver. If it times out on NES, it'll flick through NES snaps. I'm wondering if there's a way to make the screensaver rotate as it does now but through ALL the games on the setup, even those from other displays. Any ideas?

So long as the filenames match, it'll work. So just rename "(USA)" in a filename to "(JP)" or whatever else you need. Same goes for wheel images, flyers, marquees etc - just make the snap name match the ROM name.

General / Re: Strange Steam Issues with booting games
« on: January 28, 2017, 04:11:17 PM »
To add a little to this - I seem to have figured out broadly-speaking what the problem is, which is that the games that don't work boot right from Attract Mode into the game without a 'middle man'. The games that work have launcher apps that bridge the two, and if something like a Steam 'updating client...' message gets in the way, these games then boot fine. But otherwise don't from within attract mode. I'm not sure if there's an easy way around this, however...

General / Strange Steam Issues with booting games
« on: January 27, 2017, 04:20:20 AM »
Hey everyone! So, I've been having a great time getting Attract Mode up and running - think it's brilliant. I've been using it for MAME, but I've run into some weird problems with Steam games through it.

So: on Steam in my attract mode install I have Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat 10, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Skullgirls, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter X Tekken. (You can see a theme to the purpose of my arcade cabinet emerging, no doubt...)

Both MK games and Injustice run from within Attract mode, and successfully quit back to it when you hit exit to desktop. Everything is great there. However, I'm having trouble with the other three.

Skullgirls just doesn't boot at all; Attract Mode freezes up like it always does when booting into steam but then nothing happens. If I alt tab out and back in attract mode resumes as if I've just quit the game that never launched.

Both Street Fighter games have a weird, different issue: they go to boot but then offer up this: "Fatal error - Failed Creating the Direct3D Device". This sounds like a hardware issue on paper, but these games boot absolutely fine from inside Steam itself. It's just whenever attract mode is involved things go wrong, and I can't figure out why - if it's a setting I need to change or what. Most help I can find suggests uninstalling and reinstalling display drivers to fix this issue. I've done this with no impact, and as I say everything works A-OK without Attract Mode. Weirder still is that there have been occasions once or twice where they DID boot fine through attract mode, but now it is consistently spitting out this error.

In the Attract Mode command line it's worth saying whenever I boot a seam game it spits out "Warning: Could not locate rom." errors, but it even does that for the games that work fine.

Any ideas? Thanks!
