I made my own in the AM Builder that was posted here. Simple full screen video snap and the wheel art. No other text or information. Very straightforward. Works great... or did, until I wiped my Pi and am having trouble reformatting it. Ugh.

I am sorry to bring this back up.

The creating of new scripts is new to me, and while I can half figure this process out, I am a bit lost. Is there a tutorial or something a little more idiot proof to achieve this? Or does anyone mind helping me along the way with answers etc? I didn't feel this warranted a new thread, as I am sure some others will want to accomplish this as well at some point. Thanks

Big ups on this project. The more I learn about attract mode, the more I enjoy this!

I am trying to get a 3:4 aspect theme set up but having trouble figuring out how to rotate the theme so that its similar in orientation to verticools. Its proving a bit tricky and my screen keeps doing everything but what I want it to!  :o

Apologies..  dunno what happened there. I will edit and remove the photo as I am not sure how to remedy that.

I cannot find the Layout.nut file for that theme on my Pi... not sure what's up there? Ill continue to dig. Thank you.

Scripting / Possible to remove lower title display?
« on: November 04, 2017, 09:55:49 AM »
I am working on a vertical install and am running Cools and want to remove the lower title display as seen in the photo. Is it possible to remove this easily? It seems redundant given the logo comes up for the games with a snap playing in background. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks,

It's not on my device in the layouts folder for some reason... There is another thread where the person had the same issue. Not sure why it's like that, but if sticking a copy of the folder in the layouts directory will override wherever it's getting it's config from now, I will try that.

Thank you.

I answered that here: http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=1764.0

I tried that, and it didn't get me the game names... perhaps I did it wrong?

Regardless, they're redundant as the game logos come up already - I just need to find the Layout.nut that cools is using and try to delete that part I guess.

Do you have advmame installed? It's not part of the default RetroPie install, it needs to be installed separately.

I do no have advmame installed... It appears on my emulators list, but never installed it.

At this point I would be way happier if I could just remove that part altogether from the Cools layout screen... would be much cleaner, as the titles are pretty redundant. Just gotta figure out the Cools layout.nut... like where to find it LOL.

Yeah, you are correct, but have now got this as my output for "attract -v":

Attract-Mode v2.2.1 (Linux, SFML 2.4 +FontConfig +RPi +SWF)

Using FFmpeg for Audio and Video.
avcodec 57.96.101 / avformat 57.72.101 / swscale 4.7.101 / swresample 2.8.100

Shaders are not available.

And am now able to select MMAL decoding in the config... but when I do, the video snaps I am using disappear. So it works, but just not getting the end result I expected. Also... does this only apply to decoding in Attract Mode FE, or in the games as well? Thanks.

I too am getting there... one nice thing is that some games will only play with one emulator or the other. I wish I knew which roms played best with which emulators so that I could use correct versions for best performing emulators. That is just going to come with more time and experimentation I suppose.

I have a few things I am trying to iron out... primarily how to get those darn ROM names on the bottom of the screen either:

a) Gone and out of my life or;
b) Show me the game names not ROM name

I have tried a handful of solutions over the past 2 weeks and am unable to:

1) Find out where the layout.nut for Cools is to try to delete out the part that generates the display text and grey bar, the .nut isn't on my Pi, but it's getting it's config from somewhere, no?
2) Get the list.xml, mame.xml and all that jazz to play nice and give me real names for ROMs.

It's a bit frustrating, as I know there is a way, but am limited in my experience. The one benefit of searching for all of this is that I actually get to learn some other aspects of AM as I research my issues. At least I can incorporate numbered and bulleted lists in the same post.

So I managed to get it working... sort of. I have the ability to select MMAL on the General config tab, but when I enable it, the video snaps stop working. They worked fine before and are fairly low res IIRC... is this normal?

akafox and others, many thanks.

I have always had it set up properly as far as where the ROMs were, but was not aware I had to make my own "Arcade" Emulator... once I did that, all of it came together...

... then I buggered about with my video settings for a half hour trying to fix another "experiment", but now am having fun with figuring out which emulator between MAME2003 and FBA - I forget which ROMs are which  ;D

I am on a Pi and am having issues with getting FFMPEG to show up in AM. Not sure what's up. I posted some output from my Pi, and hopefully that may tell me the issue. It would be interesting (and beneficial) if they were related issues.
For Pi users, there is a preexisting thread covering what's needed here:

http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=1249.0

For PC users like myself, there is literally zero information to be had.  I don't even know if my question has an answer at all.  I am at the mercy of the likely very few people responsible for developing the app to hopefully drop by the official forums and clear this matter up.

I wish that worked... unfortunately it did not, and that's why I am in similar boat.

Sorry to bring this back, but the previous posts are partially helpful... I think...

I have not found a folder for cools in my AM, but am running Cools. Surely it is getting its config and layout from somewhere... yet nothing comes up in a search of my Pi... I want to edit the layout.nut file (to get rid of the rom name bar at bottom of screen) and wonder if just adding these folders to the layouts subfolder would work, or is it still going to get its config from wherever it gets it now?
