General / Re: Accidentally deleted FBA from my emulators list
« on: June 14, 2017, 02:03:29 PM »
Actually you can make one list...just dump all your roms into the arcade folder. Thus I have (most) of my arcade roms are advmame 1.06 roms, next my fba roms are 1.57 as are my neo-geo roms. You create your list. Then you set your default emulator for each game. My default is Admame. Then I went through and launched my neo-geo games. You press a button after you launch it and before it starts.

From there you change the default emulator for that game (the second choice) you can pick the emulator that is best suited for that rom. Remember of course you MUST have the correct version for that emulator.

I have Neo-Geo set up as well in AES mode via the unibios so that I can play the console version of the game if I want. A few game have extra modes in the home version. If I launch the same game from the arcade list it starts in arcade mode. I HAD it working rather..need to find out what I did the first time around. I stuck my Daphne games in there too. that is a little more tricky. :)

I do believe there is an easier way with the new AM...

I think you can go to emulators then generate collection/romlist..choose the emulators you want in the list and then build the list and it combines the list in to one list. Then you can hide the displays so that they don't cycle. I have not tried it yet..I like to do things the hard way :P

I have mine under Mame2003, and I need to set up an "Arcade" profile. As it is now, I can only select MAME emulators, not any FBA based ones. I thought I had it figured out, but recently found this link and am going to try it:

You need to create a new one for "Arcade" if you want to support multiple emulators like ES. Like this
http://pastebin.com/62cYKhFP
Or you could use AM way of running different roms with different emulators.

Is this possible in the Cools theme? I cannot find any subfolder in the layouts folder. Thanks

Thank you folks... this will be helpful.

I am trying to get all of my ROMs listed in one display list - like "Arcade" in ES, and I use MAME2003 and FBA... not sure how to get everything playing 100% nice, but making mistakes is a good way of learning.

So I was trying to get my stuff to play nice (all ROMS in Arcade folder) and I accidentally deleted the FBA emulator from my list in the config menu. Is there a way to reinstall it? I am having difficulty finding an answer through usual searches. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

For the "attract -v" command, I get:

Attract-Mode v2.2.1 (Linux, SFML 2.3 +FontConfig +RPi +SWF)

Using Libav for Audio and Video.
avcodec 56.1.0 / avformat 56.1.0 / swscale 3.0.0 / avresample 2.1.0

Shaders are not available.

For the "ffmpeg -codecs | grep h264_mmal" i get:

ffmpeg version git-2017-05-25-d98f34d Copyright (c) 2000-2017 the FFmpeg developers
built with gcc 4.9.2 (Raspbian 4.9.2-10)

Themes / Re: I present... AMBuilder: Layout Designer!

So I can understand this... I just go online and use this tool... create my layout and it gives me a zipped theme?

If so, as a Mac user, this is great... most of the cooler home brew programs are Windows only IME and I don't run bootcamp. This is a game changer and something to be proud of... cannot wait to experiment. Thank you!

Provide the output of the following two commands:
Code: [Select]
attract -v

Code: [Select]
ffmpeg -codecs | grep h264_mmal

Sorry been away for a bit... i will do this today some time. Just type this at the Pi terminal? Don't have to be in any particular directory? Thanks

Themes / Removing Text from bottom of Cools Theme
« on: June 06, 2017, 06:01:39 AM »
Hi there,

Am running AM with the cools theme on a vertical 4:3 CRT setup, and while I am quite content with my front end for what it is, the text bar on the bottom that shows the ROM name is a bit redundant. To add insult, the Mame.xml file seems to not be telling it to change to proper names. Either way, I got some work, and cleaning it up by removing the bar seems the cleanest final product for me...

...is there a straightforward way to remove the bar at the bottom of the Cools theme totally?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Themes / Re: Best Portrait / Vertical / Cocktail Themes?
« on: May 26, 2017, 06:40:23 AM »
Am new here, but just getting into AM and like what I am seeing. At first, I was worried that it would be quite tricky to learn, but it seems that the abundance of info online makes things a lot more seamless.

My current build is a vertical monitor cabinet, and am playing with some themes that came in AM. I started wanting robospin, but the way it fits on a vertical screen is a bit offputting, as is the fact that I already am going to have an arcade cabinet to look at videos on. Then I remembered verticools, which I thought would work alright, but it rotates the screen... this made it a horizontal again LOL.

What I have settled on for now is the Cools theme with the wheel art off to the left side, and am liking it - very basic and minimal... my only issue is that I am not a fan of the rom name displayed at bottom... a) I am having an issue with the Game Names not showing, just roms... and b) its redundant - the logo tells me what the game is. Other than that, I am fairly content until something better comes along. Another cool plus is that with a CRT on composite, text can look a bit wonky, so the logos are nice and clear - looks pro.

I followed the linked lines of code and inputted them. It appeared to install fine, but then when I go into AM after a reboot, it's not giving me the option to switch my decoding.

This is the code I copied:

cd ~
mkdir develop

sudo apt-get install cmake libflac-dev libogg-dev libvorbis-dev libopenal-dev libjpeg62-turbo-dev libfreetype6-dev  libudev-dev libfontconfig1-dev

cd ~/develop
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/mickelson/sfml-pi sfml-pi
mkdir sfml-pi/build;cd sfml-pi/build
cmake .. -DSFML_RPI=1 -DEGL_INCLUDE_DIR=/opt/vc/include -DEGL_LIBRARY=/opt/vc/lib/libEGL.so -DGLES_INCLUDE_DIR=/opt/vc/include -DGLES_LIBRARY=/opt/vc/lib/libGLESv1_CM.so
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

cd ~/develop
git clone --depth 1 git://source.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.git
cd ffmpeg
./configure --enable-mmal --disable-debug --enable-shared
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

cd ~/develop
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/mickelson/attract attract
cd attract
make USE_GLES=1
sudo make install

cd ~
rm -r -f ./develop

I tried it with just the FFMPEG directions at first, but wondered if the sfml-pi bit was important so followed all of that code to a T, and still nothing. Not too sure if there is something there that can indicate whether or not I missed something, but it appears those lines do not have the --enable-memalign-hack in there, so should be ok, no? Sorry for being a pain in the...

Thanks. I ran it and then realized I had updated everything else on my Pi, and therefore I cannot enable it as per your comments here:

I can confirm that the new ffmeg no longer supports the --enable-memalign-hack switch and it does seem to compile ok. However, once Attract-Mode is compiled it doesn't allow for hardware acceleration. I have done limited testing since I usually upgrade my image which works fine (with an obviously older ffmpeg).

I did build a new SD card with RetroPie 4.2 which has a new linux kernel, new RetroPie script and mid-release Attract-Mode code (fixes from 2.2.1 for the past 2+ months). This image doesn't allow me to enable the mmal hardware decoding. I will need to test further to see if it was an issue with my build, the new kernel, AM, etc.

If others have comments or solutions please jump in.

Is my assumption correct? If so, I guess you haven't figured out the solution yet? Either way, I have no real issues with my videos, other than their volume not being consistent from one to the other. Thanks again for the tips. Saved me some headache.

General / Installing FFMPEG - Issues
« on: May 25, 2017, 10:44:13 AM »
Hi there,

I installed Attract Mode on my Pi3 and was enjoying it fine as it was. I read that the FFMPEG step of the install instructions was important, and upon checking my configuration, saw I did not have the option for hardware decoding. I read up and found the link to this page:

https://github.com/mickelson/attract/wiki/Compiling-on-the-Raspberry-Pi-%28Raspbian-Jessie%29

Which gave me this:

Method 2: build FFmpeg with mmal support (hardware accelerated video decoding)

cd ~/develop
git clone --depth 1 git://source.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.git
cd ffmpeg
./configure --enable-mmal --disable-debug --enable-memalign-hack --enable-shared
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

Problem is when I get to the one step (./configure --enable-mmal...) the terminal spits this back:

e-memalign-hack --enable-shared
Unknown option "--enable-memalign-hack".
See ./configure --help for available options.

Is it because I did do the "sfml-pi" step above the FFMPEG install? I was under impression I only had to follow the method 2 section to update, and then reinstall Attract Mode, no?

I have not found any other posts indicating the issue, and would like to know how to proceed. As I said, the addition of FFMPEG wasn't due to any existing issue, just wanted to have a complete build. Now I am kind of halfway and not sure what to do. Apologies if this is a mess, never dealt with posting code and such in a forum post. Thanks.
