chuggy - question...found your post from a google search. Raspberry arriving tomorrow, do i need to flash the SD card with retropie first. then flash the SD card with the wolf buildout/image? then reboot? new to this...thanks so much

Disk images are copies of a disk. Copying over a disk erases its prior contents.

When you said command line are you talking about terminal in Linux? I am using Ubuntu and not Windows.

pwd is a Linux/Unix command for Present Working Directory, and will show full path of the current working directory. So cd to your path and then run the pwd command.

General / Re: "Filtering" mame in general...

You can do whatever you want with filters. Thats the freedom it provides. The wiki has a good starting example to slim down a complete mame library to working non clone arcade games. These could be used as global filters, and then you could use things such as categories for normal filters. I personally am using tag lists for global filters, specifically the nofiller lists I converted to attract tags. Tags are awesome feature of attract mode.

Dated but relevant, because searching for the solution is what brought me to this post.

The XML files are posted on the retropie wiki itself. So perhaps don't worry about generating your own.

https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME#mame4all-pi

In my case I was using "arcade" which maps to retroarch using mame2003 library.

Anyway after a lot of time wasted and headache, all I had to do was download the proper XML/dat file from the wiki, copy it to my pi, then follow the steps progets pointed out.

This worked for many ROMs which made me quite happy. But it didn't work for all roms. I still dont really understand Mame versioning. I'm guessing that I have more ROMs than what was included in mame2003? No idea.

“mame2003” uses the mame 0.78 romset.

It could be using my sequencer module. But you have to dig into it yourself or ask the creator like iotero mentioned. We are not too familiar with these pi builds.

can I asked what proc and mother board you had in there? Could be very likely, proc issues can cause some very strange symptoms.

Speaker came in today. Plugged it in. No external video card or disk. Started it up and I get no sound. Disconnect power, pulled out ram, reconnect power, I get 3 beeps indicating a ram issue (obviously). Is it safe to say this is a motherboard/cpu issue?

The attract.am just contains information about which system was used last and the position of the romlist that each display last used. Think of it as Attract-Mode's memory for what to display when you launch AM or as you are switching to different displays.

I did not know that with certainty, although I imagined it. What I wanted to know was exactly what each number meant in case you could use that data in the layouts of the themes, in case there was data that could not support fe.gameinfo.

Look two lines below the the line in second link I posted. Variables used saving data is clear and easy to read.

The PC at startup issues a series of beeps. The meaning of the beeps during the boot of the computer you can check it here:

https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/38515/beep-codes

It has pins on the motherboard for a speaker. I’ll buy one off amazon and give it a shot. Thank you.

Replaced battery. No video. Psu with disk and mb connected, 5.15vdc 12.24vdc at 4-pin molex, so I think the psu is good.
