Title: Problem: TWO instances of AM running!
Post by: Encom on December 08, 2016, 05:45:25 PM
System: Windows XP running on an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 16GB memory and SSD

Hi, I noticed my MAME games skipping and stuttering after being launched from AM and traced it to the fact that TWO instances of attract-mode are running!   One of these instances is using a lot of processor so I ended it with the Task Manager and that fixes the problem.  Upon quitting the current game, AM comes back up and operates normally after that.

Has anyone seen this issue?

Thanks,
-Zee

Only when someone is impatient and runs Attract-Mode twice.

That is the mystery - it does this whether I manually run it or if I use instantsheller to run it.  Also, it only happens the first time AM is run after a clean boot.  Subsequent launches behave normally, i.e., no second instance appearing.

This one really has me going in circles!

What happens if you run it from the command line? Do you get two processes of AM? If so, what logging is in the in command window?

As I'm sure everyone suspected, I'm an idiot.

There was an old scheduled task to launch AM at every boot.  That instance was running in the background and not visible, which is why I'd forgotten about the experiment with the scheduled task.

Sorry to have wasted your time.
