I recently rebuilt my Mame cabinet using Ubuntu 15.10. I'm getting a strange error when launching games from Attract-Mode. I'm using P1 Button 1 to select the game within Attract-Mode, but when the game launches, if I press P1 B1 in game, it launches another copy of the currently selected game in Attract Mode.
I've tried setting my window mode from Fill Screen to fullscreen to no effect.

Seeing as I just read a similar post. To Quote.
General rule, if your emulator works on the command line it should work with AM. Post your config, so you can get help.

Also-
In your mame.cfg try setting video options to maximize = 1 instead of 0.
-
I'll give that a try and report back.
I should say that I'm running Lubuntu rather than stock Ubuntu, if that makes a difference.
I've also tried 1.6.0 attract-mode as well as building from git, same error occurs.
-
No that does not make a difference. I use lubuntu (14.04) myself. Still I have to know how in the...you are getting it to work on 15.10 I can't even compile it! :-\ I've tried everything and about given up!
-
What did you have difficulty compiling?
Previously, I had to build SFML from source b/c the ubuntu libraries only contained the 1.X versions, rather than the 2.X version that attract-mode requires.
Also, I think that Debian/Ubuntu moved back to using FFMPEG's libraries, rather than libav, so the updated libswscale, etc are all available.
I think I did an apt-get builddep mame, and that pulled in all kinds of libs, probably way more than was needed to build attract-mode.
Also, I'll report that none of those changes made a difference in keeping attract-mode from launching dozens of mame windows. If i run the games from the command line, they work fine, obviously, I played a couple button mashers for a while. As soon as I launch them from attract-mode, pressing P1B1 causes it to launch another copy of the game.
-
Well what is odd is that i compiled it on a 32-bit just fine...on a 64-bit I can not seem to get it to pull everything in..even installing the packages one by one. Weirder still is the fact that the pc i was using compiled three versions..(older) already without problem. :-\
I'll look into it again thanks.
That is so weird...Do me a favor..start am from the terminal and then start a game...then start a different game and the paste the information here please. what type of controller setup are you using? Think I might know...but i need that information first
-
Weird,
You want to use Fill screen since that usually solves the window focus thing. Are you using a keyboard mapper by chance? There was a post somewhere that I recall where a user had a similar problem on mac os but I'm not sure. Keep in mind, AM frontend just passes the arguments in your emulator config off to the emulator. Most front-ends work in this way. You could also try deleting the controller mappings and redo them and see what happens. I have never experienced this problem on windows or linux, but stranger things can happen I guess.
-
Ok. A progress report:
When I set the mode to Window, everything works like it should. Launching an emulator, the focus of the joysticks goes to MAME, I can play games all day long.
Move attract-mode's window mode to fill screen or fullscreen? No dice. Attract-Mode keeps the focus and launches game after game when I press P1B1, even when the MAME window is in front of it.
??? ??? ???

Interesting, you might want to report this as a bug to Raygun and the version on Linux you are using.
