Try some of these solutions.https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/audio-config.md (https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/audio-config.md)

I tried few combo's no luck even in emulationstation I get no ui sounds or in game play.
I will reinstall the floobs image for rpi3 just need to make sure i back up all roms and snap videos 50gigs worth just the though of loosing all those setup scares me lol

Did you try forcing it with rasp-config? Also, have you tried testing it with the 3.5mm audio jack to see if that works.
And, in this process did you mess with the sound volume in emulationstation?
-
I tried that in emulationstation, I even did manual config setup, only thing I can think is in console mode I did a sudo apt-get update and upgrade
I even went back to default HDMi Mode and Group when I originallly had issues, then I got paranoid and though maybe the tv had issues and connect another device and sound was ok
-
Well, I don't think the update would cause any sound issues. I just updated my pi today and my sound is working fine.
What happens when you run sudo raspi-config and change it to auto? Also, in emulationstation try increasing the sound volume until it just hits red. It could just be something simple.

I think you might have accidently messed something up in your /boot/config.txt when you were fixing your video problem.
This might explain why sound is not being sent over the hdmi port anymore. So, you can try re-checking some of your setting in the config.txt by using this side as a reference.

You probably need hdmi_drive=2 uncommented if isn't already. Good luck!
sdtv_mode=2
# Force the monitor to HDMI mode so that sound will be sent over HDMI cable
hdmi_drive=2
# Set monitor mode to DMT
hdmi_group=2
# Set monitor resolution to 1024x768 XGA 60 Hz (HDMI_DMT_XGA_60)
hdmi_mode=16
# Make display smaller to stop text spilling off the screen
overscan_left=20
overscan_right=12
overscan_top=10
overscan_bottom=10
