Title: Vertical Theme (Updated Video)
Post by: bionictoothpick on April 25, 2016, 03:35:03 AM
I'm working on a vertical theme which has taken my favorite elements from other themes.
Please keep in mind this is a vertical 32" screen at 768x1366 resolution.

Here is a video of the one I am currently using: https://youtu.be/ZRVhNF2MlZ4

It seems too busy. Keep it simple. You could eliminate everything below the video / history section, rearrange history below video, and it would look good in my opinion. You could even take that faint outline of the controls and add labels. It would look like a draft and not take focus off other things while still being there.

Thanks for the advice. I like your idea of the faint outline for the controller. I don't know how I can eliminate everything below the video/history because of the orientation of my screen. I'm working with a 32" vertical monitor at 768x1366.

What would you suggest for the game selection list if that section was removed?

The best looking themes here haven't worked yet for vertical orientation...that's why I'm holding out for Flat Blue.

Maybe design some thing similar to this? Flyer can be shown on an overlay. I just used placeholders and solid colors instead of your textures and graphics just to get an idea. Trying to simplify it.

Thanks for taking the time to share. I revised some to make it a bit simpler...lowering the number of wheel graphics, getting rid of genre and manufacturer images. At this point I like it...not saying it won't undergo another revision, but it covers everything I wanted in a layout.

I do like the idea of being able to use control panel pics for the games at the bottom.

Oh no, not in game stuff.
Actual pics of control panels that would be shown like marquee's in the front end.
Or a 2nd monitor.
I downloaded a pack of them from somewhere a while back.
