@Floobs thank you sir can i ask with the known issues are these introduced to teh new release or have they been in 0.2v as well

Known Issues
- AM startup error
AL lib: (WW) alc_initconfig: Failed to initialize backend "pulse"
glGetError 0x500
glGetError 0x500
glGetError 0x500

this only pops up on the new "non-X" AM versions, compiled using the new SFML w/ hardware accelerated graphics and no X dependency.

I dont know if is a retropie 3.7 problem, because i was using the v.02 (retropie 3.7) without problems. Maybe is the SFML version. Are you using the same new SFML version ( https://github.com/mickelson/sfml-pi used in v.03) with the retropie 3.6?

FWIW I have non of the keyboard issues described, running several setups: Floob's v1 X-AM on 3.6, and two flavours of self compiled X-AM on 3.7, and nonX-AM on 3.7.

...

The AM shuts down after a while when in screensaver. This happens at a random time interval.

if you check your logs it may show that AM quit due to oom/out of memory, probably related to it choking on hi bandwidth/large video snaps playing in screensaver.

...

Some of my HyperSpin videos were too hi-res for AM. ... (this might be fixed in the non-x version of AM on Pi, I haven't tried)

...

unfortunately, from what limited testing I have done so far, high bitrate or large mp4s are still choking on the/my new stock non-X AM/retropie. it may just be you and I, so more input from others would be appreciated. one of the reasons I was so excited about the new build was the thought of getting hd snaps/movies running on AM.

btw saw your vid, handsome setup there, very nice. looks like what you did may scale well to small screen use. if I can get all my "have tos" done, I may just have enough time to go play with my "want tos", and that now includes getting your theme onto one of my porta-pi. not enough hours in a day...

Hi guys, I've fixed up the custom version of SFML some more and I think we can now get rid of the X dependency when running attract-mode on the pi.

It is working for me on my (admittedly outdated) pi testing setup.  I haven't tried it yet with floob's image.  Any help testing would be greatly appreciated.

You "just" have to be prepared to recompile SFML to get it going... here it is (see the readme.md for instructions):  https://github.com/mickelson/sfml-pi

thank you, sir, for bringing us attractmode. love it! happy to report that I've just successfully compiled the new custom sfml-pi on a new/stock retropie 3.7 install, and then compiled attract-mode on top of that. Everything went quite smoothly although as already mentioned, there are some small niggles..

cmake sfml-pi had a complain about a missing /sfml-pi/readme.txt file

compiling attract-mode throws up a bunch of deprecated warnings and a fatal: No names found error probably due to git headers/tags

on running attract we get glGetError 0x500 and AL lib: (WW) alc_initconfig: Failed to initialize backend "pulse", do we need to install pulseaudio?

otherwise it was a smooth and easy build and attract-mode is working as it should for now. will be setting it up soon and will try out stuff.

Does anyone have the non x version running on a fresh RetroPie 3.7 build? I've tried a few times without success.

yes, I'm running a non-x version on a fresh 3.7, compiled new sfml-pi over stock 3.7. where are you stuck?

I use .xml

Put your list anywhere you want

In AM configurations, under emulators, select the emulator, you need to set two fields;

Info source scraper: leave this blank
Additional import files: put the path to your .xml file

I run attractmode on all 4 of my RPis, with curated sets of systems and games on each one.

All use dedicated small TFT screens, ranging from a 2.2" to 7".

That being said, I find that Cools Layout with its elegant simplicity and ease of configuration, running full video backgrounds makes it the most suitable and attractive option for my systems.

The lack of clutter and strong visual appeal makes it immensely suitable for small screen portables like mine. I have adjusted the layout to show full background video snaps, and just the title logo. It makes it easy to instantly preview the games on a small screen.

There is a lack of layouts with small screens in mind, and i thank the creator of Cools Layout for sharing this wonderful work.

Thanks for the reply but that is not the information I'm looking for, trying to set this up in Attact Mode not RetroPie or EmulationStation.

Looking for these 2 lines that are underlined in red.

You have a typo. Emulaulators is what tripped you up.

General / Re: font size
« on: April 24, 2016, 09:12:57 AM »
thanks. yes that's what I did in the first place, was tweaking layouts and found a nice font that matched what I had in mind, had everything adjusted font size/positioning and got everything just right. Then when back to gui menu and found out the font size there is now too small in the menu.

just wondered if there was a way to tweak font sizes for the gui menu directly? no way?

General / xterm invoked oom-killer / out of memory crash
« on: April 24, 2016, 09:04:04 AM »
hey guys,

didn't find anything via search, not sure if this has been brought up before or if I should post this as an issue on github.

left my RPi3 unattended for a couple of hours came back to find it sitting pretty in terminal.

kern.log reports that xterm invoked oom-killer.

http://pastebin.com/xJQ2Sexk

AM was idle in screensaver mode, running just the (snap)video background. known issue? or something I could do to fix?

General / font size
« on: April 24, 2016, 12:38:23 AM »
is there a way to change the font size used by AM in the main menu settings?

i can tweak to my heart's desire for the layouts, but for AM itself all I can change is the font but can't find anything that can change the size. is it hardcoded in the binary or is there a .cfg or .nut that I should be looking in?

anyway?

reason I'm looking to do this is because I have AM now running on a Pi with a tiny 2.2" tft screen.
