Emulators / PSP and NIN Switch killer??
« on: January 21, 2021, 11:37:40 AM »
Yeah yeah I know this forum is about emulation and this is hardware I am talking about on this post but umm well just look at at it!

and note that it has made 8,207% of it's funding goal sooo...I think they MIGHT have the money to put it out huh?  :P

So as far as I can tell it is a real intel CPU and a dedicated GPU with 16GB DDR4 RAM (yes I know it's not desktop hardware but i am not comparing it to one either :P )

So here is what I think...because it runs windows 10 natively it will be easy to program for run any native Windows game or app...I would guess right? So is should of course be able to run emulators! :D

So dies this mean I can take my Atari 2600 up to an maybe including PS2 games on the go? I can not wait to see this tired for emulation.
What do you all think? (yeah I know it's pricey but that is not the point here.)

General / Re: BIN/CUE roms, how to "prefer CUE if available"?
« on: January 21, 2021, 11:23:08 AM »
First I have to ask why you are using bins for some and cues for one. Use cues for all of them just to make sure you get the music/sounds. I am just curious. It would help to know what system you are trying to work with (PSX, Sega CD, Dreamcast...ect.) Because as progets pointed out you can use a compressed version of the game.

Either that or set the cue file as a separate "emulator" and have the extension type set as .cue. generate your list. then close AM open the new list you just made in a text editor and copy just the game info (the entire line) and paste it into the list it should be on. Reload AM and then go back to settings...displays set the single use 'emulator" to display and cycle to off (or no). Then go back to the games list.

You should now have the game in the list where it should be should load the cue as default and the "cue emulator" not be seen.

General / Re: Scraping from not working
« on: December 28, 2020, 10:50:23 AM »
Two things:

one scraping is a pain in the tail! So best is to download everything manually that way you know it all works. OR after scraping back it all up so you don't have to scrape again but I also know sometimes that is not ideal.

Second you can go to thegamesdb and look how they have the systems listed (how they are spelled spacing full name or short ect ect. Put the info in there and that MAY solve your problem.

Be aware that thegamesdb might only let you scrape some much then cut you off. (though I have not seen anything stating that..who knows.) I scraped everything except for ONE system had to wait two days then everything was fine.

Note that if it is just arcade game you are scraping then you can use the listxml of mame even for retroarch/libretro cores. Just point it to a mame exe/bin when you build the list. Then replace the mame with retroarch.

Code: [Select]
cmd.exe and use the command line and start a game that way then post it here. (please remember to replace your user name with the word this is a "public" forum..)

just trust me here..I am here to help you..I am not after your chickens...

I have not run it the website is not allowing me to even see the links to it.

But let me ask does it have a launcher like daphne?

normally your executable would be daphne.exe

then your args would be a long line of crap...

executable Start Singe
arguments -k -w -z -v Hologram_Time_Traveler_Singe_2\video\Hologram.txt Hologram_Time_Traveler_Singe_2\Script\[romfilename]

something like that. Unless i can actually get to the program and try it. I am afraid that is all I can do for you.

Okay so I found it and I got it working. Here is my config for time traveler:
Code: [Select]
# Generated by Attract-Mode v2.6.1
executable           /home/user/Downloads/s200l64/./Singe-v2.00-Linux-x86_64
args                 -k -w -d data -v /home/user/Downloads/s200l64/Hologram_Time_Traveler_Singe_2/Video/Hologram.mp4 "[romfilename]"
workdir              /home/user/Downloads/s200l64/
rompath              /home/user/Downloads/s200l64/Hologram_Time_Traveler_Singe_2/Script
romext               .singe

you will have to set each of these up as single "emulators", then combine them into single list just like with the daphne games.

(Could someone to me a favor and translate that into windows-ese please)

General / Re: AM locks up after creating gamelist and restarting
« on: November 05, 2020, 08:37:29 PM »
Which flavor of ubuntu are you using? and what version?

also how did you get AM loaded? was it a deb install from the ppa or compiled?

Also try deleting your attract.cfg, list(s) and emulator(s).cfg and starting over from scratch.

if you start over..NO EMULATORS set up...does AM run okay?

You are positive you only have ONE rom location set?

And if the list is fine from top to the middle let's say...then repeasts all you have to do is open the file in a "raw text editor" [notepad] and delete the part of the list that is duplicate.

you can try rom lister but it has not been updated it a LONG time..your results may very..

Only way to get a clean list is to make your own by paw (hand) if you really want it the way you want it. Yes it can be done with Attract Mode's help. More on that here

General / Re: All Games List?
« on: October 25, 2020, 04:03:28 PM »
Something I can actually talk about and not seem like an idiot. xD

The system (ex. SNES, megadrive, mame, ect.) need to be there because it tells AM what emulator to use (in a sense) when launching the game.

You can combine ALL your games and systems into one list and filter them by genre or player or whatever you want

For example if you combine them all and filter by fighter then you get ALL the fighting games from ALL the systems (clay fighter..weaponlord, ect.) in with your street fighter and tekken. or you can filter them by the number of players so bomerman or general chaos gets added in with your mutant ninja turtles...

But yes you have to fill in the missing info with ini files..OR scrape the info from the games database ( or you can just add it manually. Using ini files is faster and can be done without an internet connection. Scraping takes a little longer and you MUST be connected to the internet.

What I used to do was just copy each of my game lists into one master list. Thus I had DICE (think pong and such) and Daphne (think dragon's lair. (Although I found the default setup for daphne with AM does have a few problems so I made them all individual "systems" then added them to one list and ran them that way.)) I added atomiswawe, naomi, sega model 1,2,3 and last I would add TaitoX (well on windows at least.)

That way all your "arcade" systems are in one list. Make is easy on you. 1. it's just easier. 2. it keeps people from asking you how to get to so-and-so game every 30 minutes! (you can do all this with emulation station on the pi too (or with AM on the pi))

I think AM will make a master list for you. you can tailor your list however you like. AM is very  flexible when it comes to list making. I have been wanting to do a write up...but been dragging my tail or trying to get it back lately…

General / Re: Good emulator for SNES and AM?
« on: October 25, 2020, 03:59:29 PM »
gonna tell you you don't have to use retroarch. you can use snes9x or bsnes on linux for snes games.

Now that being said I do like retroarch very much. So much I don't use any stand alone emulators anymore (well except for ps2 and psp...well I do..but not as often) yes even mame. Why? because it just works. Mame cores allow me to run games that my system can not run with standard mame.

However, I HATED retroarch at first because it was much more difficult to least at first. Retroarch is not straight froward when you are used to your emulators just working as they have always done. Not to mention the customization of retroarch! it's overwhelming! but honestly you will never need to use many of them or if you do it may be once or twice. Once you get used to it and once you have tweaked it, it will stay solid.

One good thing about it is the libretro cores are constantly updated and worked on but the emulators themselves are not or as often. With retroarch you get final burn neo and some other emulators for linux "natively" whereas if you used the emulator itself you would have to use wine because the emulators are windows only.

Just give retroarch time to get to know it. you don't have to learn it in a day. It took me a year or so so cozy up with it. Truth be told I STILL use some stand alone emulators from time to time. It's not about what "everyone uses". It's about what works best for you and your machine.

As a linux user I have to tell you. to install new emulators (called cores) in retroarch through the gui. You MUST change the default path to a place you have permission to write to. Also installing the cores from the repository will not get you all the cores...nor will it give you the newest cores. So you can change the default core path (start retroarch gui and then go to settings → directory → core) to a location you are allowed to write to. Then go to load core..then 'Download A Core'. Choose the cores you want (or you can download them all from the webpage using uget or wget). RA will download them and unzip them to the directory you set. Now you have one of two options. You can 1. Leave that directory set and work from there. or 2. (which I suggest) is to manually copy the cores into the default directory as root and also change the core directory back to the default. (see you can download and unzip any core you want to the default directory but you don't have write permissions so actually retroarch downloads and unzips..but you get no core out of it.)

If you learn retroarch (retroarch is the gui (the desktop) for libretro cores (the programs) sorta speak)) then you'll have a better understanding how it all works.)

As for your controller issue no reason to get bummed or do it the hard way. If you messed up setting up on of the controllers just go back the the button/direction and fix it. For example:

I plug in my USB PS2 controller...load retroarch and go to settings -> input -> controller port 1 → bind all and as i go through I screw up and make the down button left instead *FACEPAWS!* I continue to go through the buttons manually like normal. When I finish I have one of two options using my keyboard I can: 1. Select reset to default controls (thus clearing the controller I just set up) and set them again or 2. Go to the button/direction I screwed up and press the enter button and press the correct direction/button on my controller. All fixed! no need to delete your entire retroarch config. (hint if you are using a snes controller or such then you can just let the setting "time out" thus no buttons are set to the action.)

If you need detailed help you can look at the retropie setup page and it will help get you started quickly. Just know that your paths WILL NOT BE THE SAME. All the controller set up and bios info and such is all good info there to help get you started.

(You can send me a PM and I will walk you through if you need help. This thread is for Attract mode issues NOT emulator problems. That is why I had Ray set up and emulator thread for help and such. Although you can see how hard we stick to the rules around here with that  ;) )

I am replying here to let you know I have heard you. I will do some testing of my own and see if I can help you out and get back to you tomorrow.

so you use this script? Can I ask why? (Just need more info...)

also could you post your AM config file for that emulator please? :)

Here is the layout:

C:\launchbox\Images\Atari 2600\Box - Front\Maze Craze_ A Game of Cops _n Robbers-01.jpg

okay soooo..

take the 'Box - Front' folder (or copy the entire thing to a new location < best idea to make sure you have a back up) then make a batch file to rename all the jpg(s) the same name as your rom(s) then point AM to the new location. AM should pick them up and use them. This goes with any media you have (covers, box, vids, ect..)

You can try FuzzyRename but be warned it can maybe rename the same file for different. (That is it might rename the video NFL 95 to NFL 95 NFL 96 NFL 97 ect thus using the NFL 95 vid snap box for the game NFL 95 and NFL 96 and NFL 97 ect)

if you need to make a bat file PM me

Emulators / Re: Arnold ?

I had never heard of this emulator myself...

but here is the github page..might help you out

I use caprice32

pick what works best for you! :)

I compiled and tried to use it. Works okay. I can get it to load the disc on boot (i.e. in drive a slot)..but I have to load it manually (from the emulated CPC) sooo..maybe I am missing something?

./arnold -drivea "discimage.dsk"

that is to say

emulator ./arnold
args        -drivea "discimage.dsk"

if you use linux anyway...
