I am not on mac...
and my mame 221 seems to be broken (hangs on launch)

but..from your AM config change

Code: [Select]
executable           /volumes/Roms2/Mame0220/mame64

Code: [Select]
executable           /volumes/Roms2/Mame0220/./mame64
report back to me here

You are using groovymame?....

could I ask you to use vanilla mame and report back for me?

I use groovymame 0.221 with the corresponding romset. I use the merged set. Also I don't know if it helps but I checked in the rom and the files that are listed missing are present in the rom.

Run that by me again? Are you saying the the files that mame lists..are missing in the zip file? Yes you NEED those files in the zip file for mame to load them of course.

I made a (small) progress after searching online.

In command line, if I start by going to my mame folder

Then type mame64.exe toki

The game launches properly.

I don't know what to do next though, thanks for the help

Sounds like a exe path problem to me. Honestly i have not touched windows in years and don't have the time to load a VM to help sorry...
However going from your toki that works...

In AM go to the setup screen for the emulator config...beside the working path....  type

Code: [Select]

then save it...then try to load toki and let me know

3. Burnout sucks...

All I have to say is....

Thank you Yaron2019 and have a good vacation...(bring me back a souvenir?) :P :D

Interesting how they can get all pissy and mad about us "stealing their stuff" to do our hobby/passion. Yet they can turn around and steal all our ideas and work and make a million dollars on it!

I still want one though....

General / Re: MAME catver.ini - List of all Categories in the file?
« on: July 11, 2020, 02:18:44 PM »
if you want to know EXACTLY what to put in for your filters open your MAME rom list in a text editor...then look in the category coulumn. Best way is to open it up in a spreadsheet program so you can read it.

All a rom list is in attract mode is a common separated value (csv) text file.

DO NOT SAVE YOUR ROM LIST UNDER ANY OTHER NAME OR FORMAT...unless you want to build your list all over again  :P

(I will do a write up on that soon..)

remove the

Code: [Select]
and make it

Code: [Select]
rompath                   D:\Mame\roms\Mainlist
then try to run it from the command line (by the way the command line output IS your log..err to a point)

Mame is not finding your roms...yes I know they run from the GUI and all..however (and don't ask I don't know why) but that doesn't matter.
All attract mode does is type:

Code: [Select]
mame pacman
for you in the command line so you don't have to. If the command line doesn't work..then no matter what you do to attract mode you are out of luck.

It's your ini path trust me. I can not load games from the GUI..but they load just fine in the command line.
ALWAYS TEST FROM THE COMMAND LINE! That is how Attract Mode works.

Let me know if that helps..and report any new errors (if any) but i would bet all you have to do is change your path in the mame.ini like I showed you ans it will work from the command line...and thus from AM.

zpaolo11x is correct

You need to put the paths in BOTH...Attract mode has NOTHING to do with mame. That is Attract Mode and MAME (or any emulator for that matter) are different software that meet or solves different needs/reasons.

MAME needs to know the path so it knows where to look to find the rom to load it so you can run it.

Attract mode on the other paw only needs it to build a list. After that it does not matter.

Mame is different because that is just how it is written. It is a pain but you'll get use to it...even though it's STILL a pain  ;D

Once you setup your mame.ini path for mame you never have to change it again..unless you update or move them ect. Same with attract mode.

Again Attract mode has NOTHING to do with any emulator. All front ends do is pass info to the command line so that you don't have to type anything ans s o it looks good..PERIOD. And yes Windows is a front end like Attract Mode (well almost..that is debatable on who you ask)..and the goes for any other GUI you run on ANY computer/smartphone.

General / Re: Installing in Linux
« on: July 11, 2020, 01:41:11 PM »

I agree the best way you do that is to compile it. I run AM on linux myself runs just fine. The wiki is easy to follow. if you have problems pm I can help you.

Make sure you install ALL of the dependency files!

then type make

after it is made type sudo make install (you WILL have to root that to "install" it) but before you do that you can type

Code: [Select]
and run it from the build folder
you don't even have to install it....after you sudo to install you can run it from any user WITHOUT the sudo

that is a . DOT then slash / then the word attract

I'm confused..

so you can jump from say E to F....ect correctly

then when you get to the letter V you have to cycle through them one by one till you get to W?

@ristatheman Ah you are running windows. I can not help you help you there. Have not run windows in 20 years.

@keilmillerjr yeah I know not like there is much one can do at all...but still *shrugs*

First of all not sure that is legal to do that (would be like setting up a mame cabinet with a coin mech in it at your bar...that and I am not sure AM is licensed for a "pay to play" not sure if you'll get much help there..

Second you CAN do it if you set up open source games ONLY. And I am guessing you will not charge to use the machine...(just like the mame problem above)

Even if it were a legal thing to do...nothing we can do because we do not know anything about your set up (computers, operating system, games ect.)
