Big thing to notice here is the core you are using...
better to use the core made for the NEO-GEO CD itself I think..than the final burn neo core

So working MAME from the plain command line (ex. mame sfiii) runs and loads your game no problems or anything

So the game will load from attract mode fine...

but will freeze...MAME ITSELF WILL FREEZE...and you have to give the three finger salute to get out of it?  :o

do me a favor..run mame from the command line just start a game let it it run 15 seconds and quit...then run attract mode from the command line directly and try it...then post what the command line spits out please

I know there is a way to make a log...but one..I forget how..and two..not sure that will work in this case..that is why i suggested above...
but as i said I do not run a mac....so if anyone does and has ideas that can help..please feel free to grab my tail and pull me out of line and step in!

Just curious here but is there any reason that you can not use the Flycast core from retroarch..works great for me..at least on the arcade side for atomiswave.. (and sega naomi as well) have not tried it for console use yet....

now to make vid snaps for all the games and logos and such...one day i will actually get to PLAY the games and not just tweak and tinker with them right? *facepaws....sigh*

Okay so asking for a paw of help here...

Return Fire is on many systems and works fine with the 4DO core in libretro :D

However the sequel Return Fire Maps O' Death is exclusive to the 3DO (Windows maybe?) that I know of. I also know that (I think) there was a small on board chip to save data to (much like the Sega CD). and from that when you stuck Return Fire: maps O' Death into your 3DO it saw that saved data from the original Return Fire and so loaded the game. If you did not own the original game you could not play the sequel.

It will work fine with the Phoenix Project Emulator just like it should..however with that emulator I have a difficult time running it from the command line and from AM. So I am wondering how Retroarch 4DO libretro core will run on a Raspberry Pi 4 or similar board..and thus of course Phoenix Project will not work on an ARM based CPU.

I have looked for literally hours for info on this and according to the 4DO website RF:MoD is "%100 Compatible" so what am I missing? How do I save that bit of info from Return Fire with 4DO core so I can play Return Fire Maps O' Death?

Any help or ideas are welcome! :D
 
Update: Well i got it working! But honestly I have no idea how I did it.  :o *facepaws* My point here was to try and learn how to make it work step-by step so I could give a guide here.

Solved! Okay so the best thing I can figure out that worked was to play Return Fire first that is play past the "training mission" and then play and complete one of the first missions. After that go to the options menu from the main menu in retroarch (go to the menu (default key is F1 on PC or 'start+x' on retropie setup) then select NVRAM storage and make it shared then save the options config file. Quit out of Return Fire and then load Return Fire Maps O' Death and then it should load normally.

Hope that helps someone..I have seen a lot of people asking this question. Happy flag capturing! :D

Also remember you must set up your emulator first! Can you run a game from the command line using AdvanceMame? if not that is your problem I am sure..(that and the typo pointed out above).

In your post the file is called "redeclipse-master-x86_64.AppImage" and I don't see any ".sh" file.

that was the script I showed...the .sh file itself is made and just the program/game name to make it easier on the list making later..

Also, you cd to "/home/john/Downloads" but then define "/home/john/scripts/" as your working directory. Maybe one (or both) of these are your issue.

seems like I need the working directory defined. Works with it..does not work without it..

I just notice that you don't have an executable in your emulator.cfg

yeah I knew not having an executable was a bad idea...but i didn't know what the exe was... you start scripts with ./ right?  /bin/bash makes sense though..! *facepaws*

Also, are you using the same user account on the CL that you are launching AM with? Maybe you have a permissions issue.

The permissions yes I knew to make sure there. As I said the scripts worked from the terminal..not AM..so I knew it was something with my AM config

works great...thank you again!

FOR FOX SAKE!

Okay people..I have nearly torn out all my fur on this one...

I have ran bash.sh scripts from AM before without problem..but CAN NOT seem to do it now!  :o

(Note: I have an old machine with nothing but native linux games on..and I am trying to set AM up to launch them so I do not have to use the desktop gui..)
((SO MANY games out there to play!..I figure why not...  ::) ))

So here goes:

here is my script (really simple):

not trying anything fancy here..and when ran in the terminal with:

it works as expected no fuss no mess...   except....


I can not get the thing to run from AM!

Could you please be more specific (for me anyway).

You can generate a list for each system easily. If you are wanting to split them up by machine (C64 , C128, ect.) just separate the roms into separate folders and generate them as separate systems.

If you are wanting to separate them but have them under one "Commodore" system folder I think that depends on the theme.

If that is what you want I'll have to pass that off it someone who knows a little more about that :)

Just make sure your path is correct so that AM can find them....but to make that even easier...just move a copy of your entire Attract Mode folder to the new machine it will work just fine. I do this all the time. But again you might have to change some file paths. I set it up once on one system and "have 10 set up in 10 minuets"

If you want to run it on retropie you can do the same thing. EXCEPT you MUST put all the information in the correct location..which I can not think of right now (not next to my pie).

If you are on a PC and using a "standard version" of mame do not use the games database for look up. Use "gamelist.xml". That tells AM to make a xml by using the command built into the mame.exe.

To import extra information you import ini or dat files (mostly controls.ini, players.ini, ect.) add that path to the files and the games will be generated with "long names" instead of rom file names.

On a pi using advance mame or libretro cores can be more diffcult and using an "external.xml" can help there. Always note you can generate a list on a PC and transfer that to your pi and it will still work.
