Configure-->Emulators-->Generate Collection/Rom List = choose both your mame and your daphne systems and create the list giving it a name that you remember

Configure-->Displays--><your mame name>-->Collection/Rom List = your newly created combined romlist.

If you don't want to see the Daphne display when cycling through systems
Configure-->Displays--><your daphne name>-->Show in Cycle = No

If you want to hide certain daphne games from your newly combined list you can use the button you configured to edit games to hide these games from being display.
Configure-->Controls-->Edit Game = <your assigned key or button>

*Still I'd like to remove the parentheses / brackets from the rom list names is that easy to do ? If not I won't screw with as it doesn't bother me THAT much but I don't need to know in other words would like to remove the (US) VERSION / (World Version) as an example on Bubble Bobble 2 :

Configure-->General-->Hide Brackets in Game Titles = Yes

Also to note the odd thing is that I have 1600+/- games / roms within the rom folder prior to utilizing this method and I think it said the list it "generated" was 3,000+ ? makes no sense as I only have 1600 playable games.

Are you sure you don't have a Global Filter or another filter applied? You can look to see in the attract.cfg file or post that file here if you're not sure.

Also the "marquee" folder is JAM PACKED with thousands of games but lots seem to be missing withing Attract Mode. I downloaded the 1.5gig file from emumovies. Why do I have so many missing marquees when that file is gigantic should have all of them ? But they aren't all showing up ?

You can look look to see if the rom file names match the image file names in the folder you have defined. You can also look at the console/command line after you exit AM and see any errors or issue locating or loading the image files.

How do you use Attract-Mode?

I would agree that this method is dated... probably obsolete. It could be done using RocketLauncher, creating a script or using "dummy" .txt files that are named the same as your games.

The question is why would you want that setup and is it worth the configuration time vs. converting your CDs/DVDs to files (which would load and play faster and require no physical intervention)?

Check these out to see how most do it today and

I have to +1 hermine here that is usually the problem in this case 99.6% of the time..even I forget from time to time.

You wrote this which I have linked in the Pi FAQ mentioned earlier in the thread.

I understand on a Windows or Linux install with a full MAME install "listxml" is the way to go but the way that RetroPie works (his name is pibuilder and he mentions EmulationStation) is a bit different.

When you run MAME from AM or from the command line you are telling the program all the specifics of loading the file. When you load it in MAME it's relying on your MAME configuration to provide this information.

It sounds like you guys haven't actually configured MAME after installing or upgrading it. You can do this through the GUI on any current version of MAME or by modifying the mame.ini with a text editor. Make sure that you define the correct "rompath" to show paths to your roms, chds and bios (if stored separately).

Some interesting thoughts. It made me think that each of these can mean the same thing but really they describe the level of detail that is involved with each.

skin - this changes the look but is an overlay (like putting a large sticker with cutouts over something)

theme -  this has more granularly and lets you adjust parts of the look independent of each other (like your computer desktop "themes", they look different and can be further customized but the items you see aren't moving or being modified or changed)

layout - you can change anything and everything. not just colors, backgrounds, etc. but what is shown, where it's shown and how it's shown.

Layout makes sense to me. I just don't understand the forum terminology being disjointed from the program it supports. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread even making it "Themes (Layouts)" would help new comers. Attract-Mode doesn't have a ton of documentation so the forum is where people go second (first in too many cases) to find answers.

Great job guys! Thanks for the hard work.

Just as the subject suggests, why does the forum use the word theme when the term layout is used in AttractMode?

I know they are one and the same but newcomers might not. Doesn't using the same terminology everywhere make more sense and eliminate confusion?

Other options:
Layouts (Themes)
Themes (Layouts)

I'm not saying it should be changed but I'm not saying it shouldn't. Is there any rhyme or reason for the name "Themes" for this topic?

General / Re: Filters not working for different displays

I think you're overlooking the part where you need to apply the filter. Each filter listed is toggled by pressing a key (once you have set it up in Configure-->Controls-->Next Filter).

If you really want to filter the entire display (which can't be toggled by pressing a key) you need to apply your rules to "Global Filter" section. Here's an example.
Code: [Select]
display a
layout               Basic
romlist              mame
in_cycle             yes
in_menu              yes
rule                 Category contains Fight

P.S. I think you deserve a promotion to "Hero Member" or above. Your contributions in the past year have been instrumental to the progression of AM.

Great catch! It might explain some unusual problems that have been randomly seen on the forum.

I have pretty static builds so I would have never seen this. Your eye for detail is exquisite.

Thanks for bringing excellence to Attract-Mode.

I think that's great and will help a lot of people to test and use new features before the public releases.

There used to be a buildbot nightly version link on the website but it was removed because it wasn't very reliable. If your nightly build is reliable, I hope to see this thread as a sticky.

This was fixed days ago, shortly after it was reported.

"I messed up" - is how you started your post, open your eyes and don't be negative about a free product. If you think that HS has any development you're crazy. Big Box will be quick to respond but costs money and misses the mark on so many levels.
